Tried all those things and didn't work. Why is Windows so damn stubborn any time you want to get a file or print to share on a network. It's always like pulling teeth in every version.
Yeah, mine was working fine on 4/3/19 but the next day, for no apparent reason...nada, zilch, nothing!! I have no idea what my credentials are or how to find them and nowhere can I find help for that!! Damn it!!!! I've spent 3 1/2 hours trying to figure this thing out and frankly, I'm sick of it all and all these bogus, round about ways that are suppose to fix it...they're all nothing but a bloody waste of time!!! Forget it, I'll just wait until it decides to start working again on it's own.
I made mistake of doing all of these steps on the PC which gave the error message. Turns out I had to do it on the "other" PC (which couldn't be accessed) and only after rebooting that PC too. Finally, after several months, I'm back to what's supposed to be Homegroups (I miss you so much).
Exactly! XP Was last known OS which users have control, after that every thing is Just total lost of control of consumers specially in digital world Even if you be careful and turn off all options there are specifically design hidden ways to exploit. There was a Reason for literally forcing people to upgrade to Windows 10 by making it impossible to do any thing with out being prompted to do so. And that is why it was offered for Free. Fuck Windows 10 and "Billy" the the evil geek... He used to be good but ever since he was grilled by Congress to give up and work with them to screw people so in order to compete with Apple and Android He sold his soul.
What worked for me was to enter the name and pw of the router (not the pw of the wifi connection but of the router itself). For me, this is name= "admin" and pw= "password" which I think is the default for many routers. That got me connected my other computer.
Thank you for the excellent video - magnifying the text you are looking at is a great idea - and the quality of the solutions . I went through all 3 and have full access to both my NAS without trouble which had eluded me for days My problem started shortly after the Dec 2019 W10 update., and I cannot help but link the problem to something there. If Microsoft have so many places where the demand for credentials can be set up or cancelled, it is hardly any wonder . Anyway - more power to your elbow - from a subscriber (now)
good but none of these solutions work if your Windows 10 is the free anniversary version reportedly! any solutions for that? in my case, the annoying point is that until a few days ago, my Win 10 pro laptop connected to my Win 10 Home desktop (both free versions btw!) via the wireless router were working quite comfortably and i could access many devices and folders on each machine via the other ... now the setup has stopped working and that nightmare of the ENTER NETWORK CREDENTIALS prompt keeps me from doing my thing the normal way! any ideas how i could use the credentials thing and enter the password to get things done? i don't mind going that way if i just knew what password and credentials i have to use!? have tried many different passwords and changed the user account everything ... none works!
None of these options worked for me. I blame Microsoft for removing the option to set up a simple home network without any fuss or having to google and check you tube to try a solve an over complicated feature. No wonder everyone opts for apple products.
when I scroll down I don't see password-protected sharing option, and is this setting done on client pc or server pc? So confused. I prefer videos with speech.
I've already done 1 and 2 before seeing this and so done the third but still nothing works. Its seems that i have input a wrong username and now when i didn't put a password it just keeps saying it's a wrong password by that username remains like as if it's accepted and i just have to input the right password. I want to delete the username, too, but no button to show me to delete username either.
For anyone that still has this problem, here's what worked for *me* 1. Set up passwords on both devices (preferably the same) 2. Set your computer name to something recognizable (the server that is) 3. Go ahead and log in to your server from your host machine. In the username field, type in computername\username (obviously replace the username and computername with the servers credentials) In the password field, type in the computers password. This took me 2 god damn days to figure out. It's a shame that Microsoft had to remove home group, like why? Anyways I hoped it helped. Any questions please comment ill be sure to help
Spent 2 hours with Seagate (for my NAS) and another hour this morning with Microsoft agent in India. He resorted to sending me this clip. Tried all 3 methods and not one of them has worked. Bloody typical technology
Fail !! None of those solutions worked. My Desktop tries to access my laptop and I get the "Enter network credentials" window every damn time. Very frustrating !!
second method fixed my issue that came up today with trying to access one of my Windows 10 machines from my other Windows 10 machine that I just upgraded to a different version of Windows 10.
Totally agree. I don't think any music should be played during a video helping you try to fix something...it's very distracting! Luckily this one wasn't verbal that we would've needed to listen to instructions, so I muted it.
if you didn't see an xp pc in the same network as the Windows 10 in the past, it's unlikely you'd ever be able to do that now either! Micro$oft stopped supporting Windows XP in 2014 as i recall it right and even back then, it wasn't easy to share an xp pc with a Win 7 machine for example ...
yes, that's it ... however, i remember i read somewhere there was (maybe still is?) some guy who started supporting Windows XP on his own by providing the required software patches to keep it updated ... not sure how true that is but you can search and find out and maybe he or someone has been able to make it possible for an XP pc to be connected to a network of modern Windows versions ... or maybe an ethernet network using cables instead of the wireless can stil do the job? also, if you use a good antivirus service that still supports the old xp OS, it's still usable as a standalone system or a network of xp pc machines ...
HANK YOU! STEP 2 works. Fuck Windows for making local file sharing so much complicated. Username: (press the sparebar once) Password: (press the sparebar once)
Too bad you have to complicate the instructions with meaningless graphics. The disturbing minor chord music didn't help. And of course none of these methods worked. But we already knew that.
There is no "LOCAL SECURITY POLICY" under "ADMINISTRATIVE TOOLS! Other methods do not work! Windows 10 SUCKS! user name= Anonymous, Password nothing. It worked!
If you still can't fix it try adding:
Username: anonymous
password: (none)
(none) means don't write anything
Worked! Thanks!

Mine has been working fine for 6 months then all the sudden it is asking for PW..I changed NOTHING. I hate Win10 sharing..homegroups worked better.
I made mistake of doing all of these steps on the PC which gave the error message. Turns out I had to do it on the "other" PC (which couldn't be accessed) and only after rebooting that PC too. Finally, after several months, I'm back to what's supposed to be Homegroups (I miss you so much).
Nothing worked. I hate windows 10.
couldnt agree with you more
Sorry that didn't work, but your comment genuinely made me laugh.
Same, windows 10 sucks ass.

Same here!
happy to help

Nothing of this worked ! But typing "admin" for both actually did ! Cool music tho
Thanks tried admin and admin on both and worked for me too, but had to change to 'other account'
Thanks Bro!!! Problem solved
It worked, make sure to turn off password protected sharing on all the computers that you want to access and give access to everyone.
it helps!
The All Networks is the one that will do the trick. I found that out the hard way last year.
Still didn't work 😭😭😭
THANK YOU!!! Helped so much for office Quickbooks logging into the server pc! Appreciate it, the first thing did it!
Glad it helped!
Try...
Username: admin

I just tried this, common this to input but overlooked. Hope it helps someone else.
Hey, thanks. Method 1 worked easily on the first try. Good video!
thank you
On which computer do you try these changes? All of them?
Got it working, thanks. The interface is different but the steps were the same.
so kind of you
Neither of the 3 worked for me. This a big problem for me since I suddenly have no access to my NAS. Major design flaw in W10!
Sending love from 2022. Thanks. Second method worked for me

@Matthew Paluch Homegroups now do not work with Windows 10 - not any options to set up or even view whatever homegroup exists, with version 1803.
I literally treid all solutions and they all failed

Music is distracting and not helpful
turn the sound volume low, or simply set it to off!

sound was great and so much better than other instructional videos with beats that are loud and distracting.
Totally agree. I don't think any music should be played during a video helping you try to fix something...it's very distracting! Luckily this one wasn't verbal that we would've needed to listen to instructions, so I muted it.
Didn't work at all. I followed to the letter and I still have the same error.
