  • In this video we will remove the gearbox from an AR based replica in airsoft. This would be relevant to replicas such as the M4, M16, ARP and any other AR based airsoft replicas.
    Here we start with the upper removed. If you need details on removing the upper, full instructions are included in this previous video:
    • Airsoft AEG inner barr...
    Once removed we will open the version 2 gearbox together and touch on a few of the internal components. This would apply to any airsoft version 2 gearbox with only minor differences in some cases. Ideal if you are just looking to change a spring for example. Re assembly is the reverse of disassembly. We will not go into to much detail for re assembly as that will depend on what tasks you are carrying out in the box.
    I hope you enjoy this video. If you would like more content from me then check out Rock Bottom Airsoft on Facebook and Instagram.
    Thanks for watching.

    New to airsoft but have built many real AR's, and I gotta say that airsoft is way more complicated.
    Thanks for the fantastic guide.

      Gearboxes can be a bit tricky, but like everything else, they do become less daunting after you've done a couple. But I agree there is a lot of moving parts in an AEG compared to a firearm.
      I'm glad you enjoyed the guide.
      I hope you enjoy Airsoft and thanks.

    Thankyou, came here because I couldn't get it out the shell. Great tip on moving the selector switch to half way between semi/safety. Got me going thanks!

      @@rockbottomairsoft they are very helpful! I don’t know where I would be without your channel 🙂. I have moved into snipping (Asg m40a3) I’ve upgraded spring and inner barrel. But don’t understand enough to risk swapping out anything else.
      Could you explain what you would upgrade and how to open trigger assembly correctly?
      Again much appreciated from loyal subscriber! 👍🏽

      Is it the ASG M40A3 sportline? If it is then spring and inner barrel is usually as far as I would take that replica. Maybe a new rubber, but that should be shooting good. If its the vsr based Pro line then I did a video on stripping down a vsr based replica. If you are looking at stripping the trigger box down I will look to get a video out on that.

      @@rockbottomairsoft I believe it is the sportline. That’s fine if can’t be upgraded further (I will buy better one eventually). It shoots a little to side but watch a video saying rubber may be misaligned, so will try sort that out.
      Yes I would love see how you do trigger assembly, I not confident enough without a back up sniper rif to attemp it myself yet

    Cheers mate, it's the only clip I found that's so detailed, I only need to refit my safety which fell off, it's now obvious that I need to remove the gearbox to get at my safety catch. *Real rifles are a lot easier to strip*

      Thanks, I'm glad you found it useful. Unfortunately the easiest option would be to remove the box, that gives you access to the selector plate and switch. There are definitely a lot of fiddly moving parts in AEGs but haven't really got any experience stripping a real AR down.

      Hi. I'm glad you've found the video helpful. Sometimes the rear of the gearbox will foul on the lower reciever. First off make absolutely sure you've removed every pin and bolt securing it. Once your sure they are all out then sometimes you will need to use a little "persuasion" to get it to budge. Try pulling forward and up as you release it. Also check that your fire selector is in between semi and full, as in at an angle forward this doesn't always make the difference but it is surprising that sometimes it catches.
      Hope this helps.

    I want to paint the lower receiver of my gun do you think it would be safe to just cut the wires resolder and heat shrink?

    • @rockbottomairsoft
      @rockbottomairsoft  2 роки тому

      If you've got the space for the joint and heat shrink then it shouldn't cause any problems. However why do you need to cut them? If you remove the box then the wires should be clear. If you plan on leaving the box in then just mask up wherever you don't want paint to get.
      Hope this helps.

    How do I get the rear take down pin out if there’s not enough pressure on it as my one just keeps on spinning, I have tried to wedge a flat head screw driver under the head of the screw but no joy, hope you can help. Thanks Gunner

    • @rockbottomairsoft
      @rockbottomairsoft  Рік тому +1

      Hi. I take it is retained with either an hex bolt or screw. Some are and some aren't. It can be a pain when they are as you have found the pin can spin freely and screw will not come undone. If you don't have this it just punches out, but we don't have that option here. I've not had one that tight before, normally thumb pressure on the opposite side and then turn the screw or Hex and it should budge. However if that's not worked the other option would be to see if you can grip the opposite site of the pin with grips(use a bit of cloth to avoid scratching) and then wind the screw or Hex out. You should be then able to push the pin out. Another more drastic option would be to slot the opposite side and then use a flat head to hold it in place while you back out the Hex or screw, this would be a last resort for me.
      I Hope this helps, let me know how it goes.

    Nice one Nick. Can you do one for the fiddly bits too , like best order of piston rapper loads and years and show me that anti reversal patch holder in action! THE most annoying thing in there☺☺

      Meant to read tappet plate and gears😣😆😆

    • @rockbottomairsoft
      @rockbottomairsoft  2 роки тому

      Absolutely, I will look to do that in a future video in that case. As to order though I would normally release the spring on the tappet plate as in this video and then remove the cylinder, nozzle, tappet plate and spring all as one . Then I remove the bevel gear, sector gear and finally spur gear. Fiddliest bit I normally find is the trigger. As to the anti reversal latch it's easy with the clip, literally just clips over the top and holds it in place. But I agree they can be proper annoying.
      I will try to get a more in depth gearbox work video out when I build a new high speed or dsg box.

    The screw behind the selector switch is making the pin spin and won’t come out dose any one know why

    • @rockbottomairsoft
      @rockbottomairsoft  2 дні тому

      This can happen. It's just a smooth pin. It shouldn't require much torque to loosen. Just hold the opposite side firmly with your thumb and then try to back the screw out. Hope this helps.
