China resurrected the MG brand with an SUV. A far cry from what MG is famous for which is small open top roadsters. Every time I see an MG branded SUV its just doesn't sink in. 😊
@@sunrisejak2709 If there's a silver lining, MG will release the Cyberster, which would be nice, given the lack of electric roadsters. Since there aren't any 2 door electric coupes on the European market, Ford could capitalize on that and make a Capri worthy of its name. Also, nostalgia sells, as long as it's done right.
SWEEEEEET! I owned two 1974 Mercury Capri's. Shaved them, slammed them to the floor. Modified the carb and heads. They were fun as hell. They were so damned fun to drive. 2 Door car, quick handling, snappy response. Bring it back baby! Bummer that it is just a reskinned monstrosity.
I had a used Mercury Capri in 1982 looked exactly like the one in the picture. It was cool because it had a v6 in a small car and a 4 speed manual. There was a serious problem with the steering in all of those cars so I didn't get to drive it much.
I'm a Ford fan from way back. My brother had a mk1 capri, and it was just the coolest little car. Unfortunately for me by the time i was old enough to get a car they had stopped making or importing the capri ,and used ones were already getting hard to find. I'm excited to hear that Ford are going to bring it back, however there are two things that make a capri, a capri. That long bonnet, and that iconic semi circle rear quarter window. If they include those to features, and it has a range of about 450 kilometres, I'll take that all day long!
Capri, at least in the US was cool because it was a “European sports car” from Ford. Early 70s Mustangs were heavy muscle cars, that didn’t drive well and mid 70s Mustangs were reskinned Pintos. The Capri was a real drivers car, with actual handling.
It looks cool, but to name it after a driver's car and expect automotive enthusiasts to buy the Capri, it has to actually be *fun to drive*. Is it going to be a tight, light, rear wheel drive coupe, or a soft, heavy, rolly-polly fwd crossover? That's the kind of thing the buyers of this car want to know.
In the UK & Europe Ford have already recycled names. Cougar, now spelt Kuga, Puma originally a small sports car, now a small SUV. I’m not sure why companies do this , use the same name for a different product. We have a local brewery here in Kent, England doing the same, same basic name different beers. My guess is they don’t have a work force that are inventive to come up with new names.
Its much harder to make a beer taste the same each season, they just don't have the talent. As for ford, they stopped making good car models and all the new ones have down syndrome and have had the names copied from previous good cars but spelt wrong. Its suitable because they look fucking awful
The Electra-Jet Mustang is coming back as the all electric Mustang. They already have a drag race version that broke the 7 second quarter mile with 1400 H.P. (same as the Mach-E 1400).
I would definitely pay more for an Explorer than and ID 4. It looks better, has a longer range, is a more practical shape and has an infotainment system that works. The problem with the ID4 is it lacks in all these areas. It’s attractive but no desirable, the interior sucks and the infotainments system would rule it out in my books. I have owned a Tesla and currently own a BMW I4. The ID 4 was never a consideration because of this. Glad to hear your wife is doing better. Hope the kids are handling things ok.
I was at the Lexus dealer today bringing my car in for service. They had the new Lexus EV. I asked them what the range was and the salesman said 220 miles. I said that’s it ? 🤦♂️
Come on Sam. How about a Ford Anglia for all the Poms! Or even a Consul, a Popular - that has a certain olde tyme ring to it, the Ford Popular. I actually think the EV Capri renditions look really cool and is about as muscle car as I would wish. I too had a Capri in the UK around 1990 and it was old then. Not a bad ride and it started quite well. I always remember it had Nokia tyres on it!
Yes, back in time with some money left one could make a good car out of a Ford. I also had a pimped Version but it ended in the scrap press like most. Even not seen here as an oldtimer which says anything about this quality company. I am no more sure but Ford made that car in England? The country with what we called in German ‚British Elend‘ = misery and other nicer cars built to fail soon after leaving the factory.😂😂😂 Did they ever built Capris in Germany? By the way the Opel Manta of about the same period was lasting longer!
@@Lifecoach7Ra , Was only built in the Cologne and Saarlouis plants and no longer in England. My father previously had a Ford Taunus 20M TS Hardtop. Opels weren't that popular back then, but the Manta was with the working class and tuning industry. After the Ford I almost only drove VW, Audi.
when i was 16 i stole my moms boyfriends capri and took it for a spin, I was out of gas and they left me with $20 for the week and kicked me out of the house while they were on vacation.
As someone who works at Ford dealership, I don’t understand why they keep making new models, when they can’t build the current line up. They have too many vehicles and WAY to many options on said vehicles
Because most people in the know will buy a tesla. Ford can still get sales based on model / brand loyalty from the less well informed. I do however drive a Ford mach e and it is a good car.
VW will screw it up. The original Capri was Ford Europe's answer to the Mustang, it was based on the Cortina platform and was very much a labour of love for Ford Europe. When VW tried to make a sports coupe, they gave us the scirocco. When it comes to resurrecting the Capri, what VW will give us is a low volume compliance car for Ford.

Maybe it’s not VW building it. Maybe Ford have just got an agreement to use the ID platform and Ford will be building their vehicle onto the ID ‘skateboard’.
Why does this matter as both brands manufacture just mediocre products? I personally would prefer a SAIC or Geely or BYD platform that really works. But anyhow the original Capri was my last Ford ever and with Mustangs I always had very bad feelings on European roads. I sometimes had to drive my bosses car and felt very insecure and overpowered at the same time. I would have never used it on a racetrack.
In the 1960’s Ford Europe had the Zephyr, now that would be an appropriate name to recycle for an EV - but their old name Zodiak doesn’t sound right for an EV
Ford Puma BEV in 2024 will not be on a VW platform according to many car review sites. Maybe the Capri will be on this platform as a special edition of the Puma replacing the ST. Maybe a phev based on the current World Rally Car. Too early to speculate!
@@stevenjones916 well so far I can only find reference to a new platform specifically for the Puma from Ford. I think it could be a possibility. Have to do a bit more research as Ford have only shown a few teaser images of the Ford Puma BEV.
No, you misunderstand - Ford is NOT bringing back the cars previously named, say, "Capri" or "Falcon" or "Galaxie" or "Cougar" or "Torino" etc. - they are bringing back the NAME embodied in a vehicle which has no relationship to the original car or what that car represented - it is, in effect, rebadging, sticking and old badge on a new car - all aimed at the nostalgia of those who related to the original cars and/or the emotions those cars evoked - purely a marketing exercise. And why not - if it sells, do it - this is the way (nod to Mandalore)
I think Mel Gibson drove an Australian made Ford in the original Mad Max movie. What was it called? An EV version of that would be nice. Wouldn't be able to have nitrous oxide though....
How about an electric Ford Falcon, a stripped-down, affordable car.... No computerized mumbo jumbo, that you can just get in and drive. An affordable car for the masses.
There is only one way that ford can make a profit from there EVs, and that is to cut out the middle man (car dealers) and sell directly to the consumer who would be willing to give ford a reasonable profit instead of the dealers. GO TESLA. Nice car that Explorer.
My opinion is that Ford is wasting time on a temporary solution to have VW make a car and brand it as a Ford. They should just get serious and design it from scratch themselves, or they will go bankrupt.
It’s a Ford, design and built by Ford with shared chassis, nothing else. Ford writing their own software as well as Vw software so corrupt and inefficient with huge problems. Vw rebadged Ford to Vw with Ford building them alongside their Ranger etc but Ford do far far more than that lazy penny pinching Vw approach.
Ford is not going get a market share of EVs as long as they only "release" odd ball classic versions like Capris and Mustangs. People want everyday vehicles with good range and price. Making quirky evs will not make them a major player. Actually the opposit.
I think ford is hurting It’s trying to get customers back I personally will stay away My last three fords were bad cars They need to fix reliability and clean up the dearship
