- Both of my consoles have had the stock thermal paste replaced with Thermal Grizzly Kryonaut. The PS4 Pro has also had its thermal pads replaced with Thermal Grizzly thermal pads.
This PS4 Pro is a launch CUH-7015b and has a Nidec fan as well as an internal SSD. My Xbox One X is a launch Project Scorpio edition.

Yeah the Xbox One and the vapor cooling (which is old tech) works well, under heavy load it is a QUIET loud, not annoying. The PS4 Pro is just annoyingly loud LOUD, especially DOOM, cut scenes in certain games, AC Origins/and Odyssey are just awful on the Pro. Oh well, the PS5 hasn't faired much better. Not sure when they will realize heat travels UP, not from the back. Uggh.

DCH YT I play on Xbox but doesn’t the PS4 have a setting to turn off “Power On Chime”? The Xbox has that to where you can keep the “Power On Chime” on whether you turn on the system from the console or the controller, or have it to where it only chimes when you press the power button from the console but not chime when turning on the controller, or just keep it off all together. Mine is probably the loudest since I have the Taco Bell Xbox One X . I got it from winning a raffle from Taco Bell and every time I turn it on, the Taco Bell chine plays which is fucking loud.

Xbox when it ramps up let's you know you can actually hear the fan but ps4 makes you wanna wear headphones even then best to get a extension and put the ps4 in a sound proof box

Of the 6 consoles ( xbox one, xbox one s, xbox one x, ps4, ps4 slim, ps4 pro), the original ps4 is DEFINITELY the loudest. I have listened to the sounds of it and it sounds like a plane taking off or a super big blow dryer.
The launch model Xbox One was definitely the quietist.
It may have been underpowered but I always appreciated the overkill cooling system.

Can confirm. I was the one that bought a PS4 pretty early when the 4 slim wasn’t out yet. All my friends have a 4slim and whenever I’m at their place, I’m pretty jealous of how quiet their sh*t is.

The old ones can be if there not take care of but mine doesn’t bother me at all. I can also put and SSD internally in my Pro and it loads much faster which you sadly can’t do with the X1X. The OS is so much faster and stable with an SSD and load times are also much faster. I sometimes load over a minute before others lol.
If you think the Pro is loud you’ve never used an OG Xbox 360, Dreamcast, OG Xbox or a fat PS3. Those consoles are all loud as hell lol.

The problem is that it’s a pain in the ass to clone the drive and to take apart the X, not to mention it voids your warranty. There’s also tests that show that theres a band with cap so an SSD provides little benefit internally. Yes you can use one externally but I find the OS stability as beneficial if not more than just the load times. The X also has some flash storage similar to a hybrid drive so load times are already pretty good. I just like that Sony lets you change the drive easily. It’s pretty big thing that people often overlook.
I have an Xbox one s and I must say, I’m thoroughly impressed with how quiet it is. I’m always shocked at how loud my buddies ps4 pro is, the one s doesn’t make any noise! It’s almost eerie how quiet it is
I have a PS4 Pro and One S and I have to say, even though it’s not the X, the One S is always silent. I have cleaned and replaced thermal pads and paste (I also used Kryonaut) in the Pro and it improved but still a bit noisy. Hope Sony will finally put this atrocity to an end with PS5 with a better fan and thermal design.
The One X is actually typically louder then the other Xbox One models but it’s to be expected since its much more powerful.
Better cooling is promised for PS5 but who knows if it’s gonna be that much better. You also shouldn’t have to change the thermals to get the console noise to a reasonable level.
Racer Boy Yup, agree. Not even mentioning that it shouldn’t be up to the user to open the console and remove plenty of dust and particles after a few years. I understand that this can’t be completely prevented but there should be some sort of reduction of the amount it can collect compared to the PS4 Pro. At least it shouldn’t be voiding the warranty as it’s a really needed operation which is in some cases crucial to reduce PS4 consoles’ noise after years of use. I hope PS5 will have a revamped and advanced thermal design and fan. I know the X is supposed to be louder than the S, but I think it’s quieter than the Pro, despite being more powerful. The vapor chamber design made by Microsoft is more expensive to make as far as I know but way more effective. Also it seems like Microsoft is using a more advanced and more silent fan for the S and X which is why they’re quieter than their competitors. Let’s hope Sony does something to improve this situation.
A slightly modular design for easy fan and heat sink access would be a good design choice.

Yeah the Orignal FAT Xbox One is definitely the best, lower resolutions, way bigger fan that faces upwards. I guess MS realize heat travels up....with the exception of the X. Sony haven't yet grasped heat travels UP. lol. Hence their JET PS4's. lol
I have the original Ps4 and whenever I open up a game or even a small little application, it sounds like a jet engine. I’ve been thinking of doing a deep clean might even replace the fan and of course the thermal paste. I’d always make a joke in the PlayStation party that goes like this.. “Guys I think a Boeing 787 is flying above my house. Oh wait, it’s just my ps4.” Then I head to my freezer to grab an insulated ice pack to place on top of my ps4. Although the cold pack isn’t in contact with the internals, I do see a difference in fan usage.
Give the system a deep clean and replace the thermal paste and it should be as good as new. The fan is probably fine just give it a good clean.

I just got this game on PS4 after completing Youngblood on Switch and holy shit my PS4 pro is so loud I’m legitimately considering taking the game back and getting the Switch version so I can play silently haha. I was super impressed with Youngblood on Switch and don’t really mind the visual downgrades if it means my living room isn’t about to blast off at the speed of light. Also gyro aiming is amazing and I already miss it haha
To clarify I’ve open my pro and cleaned the heatsink but haven’t replaced thermal paste which I still need to do.
A paste change should fix it and if you have the original CUH-7000 change the thermal pads.
Personally I wouldn’t play that game on the Switch because 360p-540p 20-30fps makes me puke lol.
Racer Boy I’ve been meaning to open it up and do a paste and pad replacement but at this point I may just wait for PS5 haha.
Also like I said I already played an ID Tech game on Switch and didn’t mind the downgrade at all like I thought I would. At this point though I’ve already beaten Wolfenstein 2 on my Pro and have moved on to Doom Eternal.
My xbox One X is completely silent. If you are sitting 3 meters away and mute the tv you wont hear anything. My Ps4 (not pro) is much louder but also not annoyingly loud while playing games with normal volume on the tv. I think in the end it depends wether or not you are sensitive with noise and how far you are sitting from the console.
The headphones you wear make a difference too. I use the Astro A50s with a mod kit and can’t hear ether system under regular use.

I’m thinking about upgrading from the very first ps4 that came out but idk if I should buy a PS4 pro, slim or wait for ps5.
It’s probably smart to wait for the PS5 honestly. I love the Pro but it’s hard to recommend as an upgrade with PS5 launching in about a year.

Try Red Dead Redemption 2 on both. That game will literally make any console fly.
I have the One X and I can confirm that is the only game where you can get a little bit annoyed by the noise it makes, but is still nothing compared to a ps4

The Xbox one s hax a 120mm PC fan that is basically better and as a PS4 Pro owner i can say that it has a very loud and aggressive fan that makes such wonderful noises to replicate a Jet and I keep it dust free, cleaned every month.
90% of the time the pro gets noisy from dried out thermal paste and under sized thermal pads.

I played FH5 on the Xbox One X in this video briefly in 2021 and it was fairly quiet. Still have the console but I haven’t played it since getting a Series X in January 2022.

My Xbox one x makes a low buzzing and loud fan sound even when turned off and sounds louder than the PS4 Pro. Does anyone know how to fix this because I’m not great with computers and don’t want to take it apart : )
It’s most likely a bad fan and you’d have to buy a replacement one from eBay and instal it. If it’s a new console I’d say just exchange it from where you bought it. If it’s less then a year old send it in to Microsoft and they’ll replace it.
Racer Boy I’ve already exchanged my Xbox one x for a new one 4 times and they’ve all had a worse fan than the last. I’m assuming I’ve just been really unlucky with the exchange system. But who the hell is in charge of checking these Xbox’s cause the one I’m using right now sounds like a plane

The Xbox One X is quieter then the PS4 Pro. The fan doesn’t spin as much and the pitch is nicer to hear. However the original fat Xbox One from 2013 is quieter than both.

@@tzrgazza I think that Xbox got better cooling and engineering stuff generally, but its obsolete console without exclusive titles/games and with PC and AMD Ryzen platform it makes it much worse to choose in comparison between PS ecosystem and PC.
If someday Microsoft and Sony manage to work together - Microsofts engineering and Sony's IPs and exclusive titles in one "box" (console) it will be the best.

It's only with enhanced games. I've done some reading and seen many people say this was a normal thing for them. It doesn't get hot. Just loud. But I play with headphones, so I'm letting it slide. But im gonna be watching out. I have the warranty, so if it starts over heating I'm gonna take it in
Side note. I just booted Forza horizon 4. The fan got louder, but nothing like Wolfenstein. So I'm guessing it just depends on the game. But I'll definitely watch out

I’ve had mine since it came out and it started to get loud after about a year so I changed the thermal paste and it made it quite again. Same happened to my PS4 Pro and that was even louder. My Launch PS4 and fat Xbox One were both pretty quite. It’s a shame both Microsoft and Sony use such bad thermal paste in these consoles although to be fair they’re both quieter than the original Xbox 360s and PS3s those were loud as hell and they would actually overheat. The Dreamcast was also pretty loud.

I currently have a GTX 1070 which is much quieter. It plays Destiny 2 at 1440p high settings at about 80-100 FPS which is all I need it to do. I usually play consoles but I appreciate a good PC port and I emulate GameCube games a lot. My current rig also has an i7 8700k with 16gb of ram.
It’s also a nasty pre-built Alienware and the only reason I got it was because my old PCs motherboard and PSU died in early 2018 which was when the bit coin mining tripled GPU and DDR4 prices so the prebuilt Alienware with those specs was about the same price as a 1070 or 1080 itself. My brother and I paid around $1200 for it and 1070s were inflated to about $900 at the time
My first gaming PC was an i7 3700 Dell XPS that I upgraded the PSU, graphics card (to a R9 390) and I stuck a 500gb SSD in. That machine was great but sadly died like I said before. I later mailed that 390 to a buddy.

If you like the PS4 platform get the Pro. If you want the best graphic possible on a console get an X.
Personally I would recommend the Pro because I love the exclusives like God of War, Horizon and Spider-Man. The PS4 dashboard is also far better than the Xbox’s. I also like the DualShock controller more.

If you already have PS4 games and a PS Plus membership you might as well get the Pro since you won’t have to re-buy everything.
Also enable boost mode in the setting to make non Pro enhanced games run better and load faster.
Hi dude. Came across your channel and was wondering if you could help. I bought a PS4 Pro with the Red Dead Redemption bundle. Despite everyone saying it was dead silent. Mine had extreme coil whine, noisy disk drive and the fans would jump up more often than others. I'm just so close to giving up at this point. What PS4 pro model did you use in this video?
I don't know whether to swap it out for the same model or just, I don't know man. It sucks going through the "lottery". What would you do?
Sorry to hear your issues. In this video I’m showing my CUH-7015 that’s had replaced thermal paste and thermal pads and an SSD Installed. For your noisy 7200 I would recommend exchanging it at the retailer you bought it at. Another viewer of mine did that and got a dead silent one with no coil while second try, but your mileage may vary.
If you don’t mind buying used and taking the system apart I would also recommend buying a used 7000 and refurbishing it yourself.
If I were in your shoes I would probably just exchange it. Hell if you could test it at the store if they let you with God of War, Red Dead, Doom, Wolfenstein 2 or Spider-Man unless you bought it online. I’d imagine Best Buy or GameStop would let you test at the store if your exchanging a previously noisy unit and want to make sure your getting a good one.

Racer boy from my limited time with Xbox 360s and above, I've enjoyed them. But from what I've seen online don't seem very reliable
The OG Xbox is ok but other than Halo and slightly better graphics the PS2 is way better.
Despite it’s high failure rate the 360 was good but I prefer the PS3 for free online, rechargeable controllers and much more exclusive games. Not to mention the PS3 wasn’t nearly as faulty as the 360.
The fat Xbox One was a 600p-900p piece of shit and the OG PS4 is way better.
The Xbox One X is a great piece hardware but the exclusive games have been really disappointing and I hate the dashboard because it’s slow, clunky and full of ads. Backwards compatibility is it’s best feature. It plays most good 360 games and a few OG Xbox games and they run so much better than the OG consoles and some 360 games even run in 4K (or close to it). OG Xbox games are also 4K (or close to it). But I still prefer the PS4 Pro because of its exclusives, better UI, and user replaceable hard drive. You can install an SSD in the Pro but you can’t on the X1X unless you void the warranty and clone the drive which is just a headache.
I like Xbox but I’ve always preferred PlayStation. I love and hate Nintendo. Their games are great but the Wii, Wii U and Switch are all underpowered and gimmicky in my opinion. I wish they’d just make a real and powerful console because a powerful and affordable console with Nintendo’s great games and all 3rd party games would give PlayStation a good run for its money and I think it would sell really well if it was marketed right.

Yeah the Pro is awful especially for 3rd party games, it's loud in an ANNOYING way, like it's going to ruin the system or just blow up. The One X is loud, but in a soft way (if that makes sense), doesn't fill the whole room with JET!. ha Also SONY guess what, heat travels UP!! The only reason the One X has it in the back is because of the vapor cooling, which works. The Original FAT system was/is the best, and most silent system since they fixed the good ole 360's. Back in the day. Hence the fans on the TOP.

Don’t change the pads since the Xbox One X already uses good thermal pads. However they may need to be adjusted to fit the ram modulus better.
Good quality paste is also important. I used thermal grizzly but I’ve heard MX-4 is also good.
