  • Peter Vaughan heads off to one of his favourite campsites in the very latest new motorhome from the UK's largest leisure vehicle manufacturer, Swift Group. The brand-new-for-2024 Voyager 494 has an island bed layout but also has a double bed in the overcab, making it a family-friendly four-berth. Best of all, this new model is very competitively priced and the only optional extra listed is an automatic gearbox.

    Blimey, picky lot you get commenting on here, don't you! Why on earth would someone wanting a small electric camper watch this, then complain (twice) that it isn't what he is looking for? I wonder how long it took him to work that out? 😂On the plus side it looks extremely spacious and comfortable for me and my border collie, even though he likes a bit of space to stretch out in! Thanks for an excellent review! 😊

    This is the first overcab motorhome at under 3 metres that I've seen. Important as you will pay less on French motorways or some ferries too.

    My nearest dealer stocks new Swifts so I occasionally have a look and, well, they constantly disappoint. But this looks a better design. Personally I’d dump the gas cooker and gain some payload back but there seems to have been some kind of universal decision made that British motorhomers can’t live without roast potatoes.
    We have a lightweight IKEA children’s bathroom stool as an essential in our motorhome and Swift could throw one in here - for using the tall toilet and for reaching the high cupboards. Makes a makeshift wine glass table when sitting outside as well.

      Swift's new Voyagers seem a big improvement on some of their previous models. I, too, could live without a huge cooker but British buyers seem to insist on them!

    Good review and IMHO that looks very good value compared to some others that you have to spec up to make them half deicent.

    Another honest and complete review. Sometimes it is good to have space and not have it filled by all sorts of furniture, tables and seating but I can see the point about it being a four berth motorhome. Always a compromise of some sort.

    Oh dear, this briliant van ticked all my boxes and got my interest 100% until it came to the washroom. The van has all that space and fantastic headroom and then a washroom I'd have to reverse into because there is no space to turn round! Such a shame. A great review though as always and thank you for sharing. 👍

      The washroom isn't actually that small! Glad you enjoyed the review, though.

    Lovely motorhome Peter , great price 👍but I don't get the rench in the cutlery draw, should it not be in the garage 😁

      It's there for changing gas, which usually runs out when you're cooking. And I don't have a lot of stuff in the garage when I'm testing, so I don't want small items flying around!

    Cheap for the size!! But I’m looking for something that sleeps one and gives me an electric vehicle that can be used as a daily ride as well as a small camper.

      You get a 'Fix n Go' kit, as in quite a few motorhomes (to save weight). Depending on what else you're carrying (and staying within the GVW for legality), I'd definitely carry a spare wheel in the garage.

    Basically it is a £69000 bedroom and one of them not being much good. Cramped, sorry cosy lounge, cramped shower cubicle, cramped garage. Oh never mind I will stick to my Chausson 660, with it's 1.9 mtr x 1.6 mtr bed that disappears into the roof, leaving 6'3" headroom below it and for only £9k more. Oh, did I mention it also has a rear entry door that is full height and full width across the rear of the van. Plus it is less than 7 mtrs so better on ferries.

    • @MotorhomeCampervan
      @MotorhomeCampervan  9 місяців тому

      Yes, the 660 is a real one-off design, and I really like it. However, major manufacturers rarely gamble like that and Swift's design may have more mass-market appeal

    • @ronecc2
      @ronecc2 9 місяців тому

      Yes the market does dictate design in many cases. A large bedroom. island bed is nice, but you are asleep most of the time in it, and spend the day cramped in small spaces. I have owned most designs apart from a rear bathroom. I wanted that design for the current, but SWMBO won out!!@@MotorhomeCampervan

    Great review as usual Peter, I like the bedroom and the tippy bathroom sink but that's about it, not sure the dinette would be comfortable for 4 apposed to other configurations and as you indicated the table needs a second leaf , kitchen appeared no larger than my CV40, privacy bedroom screen looked cheap but no spare wheel and the high garage lip would put me off. Cheers K.

    I think this is one of your best RV specs and a good price for it, really a good sized because I am six foot four inches tall, but wish I could drive saying that I like this one better than most of the others 👍❤

    I read the review on the Voyager 4 motorhome. I personally prefer a much smaller campervan!! And I’m into electric vehicles rather than petrol or diesel ones!! So up to the job is the Vauxhall Combo Life Electric Wheelhome Vikenze IIIe.

    Hi Peter, I hope you are well. I think the fit and finish on the bedroom would be a deciding factor for a lot of people. It is gorgeous!! Simple, elegant and well made. A little big for me and some UK roads. I'd be tempted with a smaller one! Thanks for the video!
