Unless I missed it do you ever show how to remove the valves and seals??

Thanks for the well done videos. I have an 2003 sportsman 700 . Water pump failed and engine overheated at idle. I shut it right down. Replaced pump. Now I'm getting antifreeze into the oil. What would you say chances that its just a gasket or something is possibly cracked? Engine runs cool and well. No antifreeze into the combustion chamber just into oil. No water or oil at water pump weap hole. Thank you in advance

Believe it or not I have never done a water pump on a 700 or 800. Is there a gasket between the water pump and the crankcase That could be causing water to get in with your oil? Otherwise I would say there is an issue with the cylinder head gasket or base gasket more than likely

@@OldGlory1776 wow thank you for fast reply. Yes there are 2 seals one on water side one on oil. When they or water pump fail, usually you get oil in coolant. I drained oil and pressure tested cooling system. Lost pressure fast and have coolant out the oil drain hole so either a gasket or crack. Guess ill find out. Gonna pull head and jugs after Christmas

Also, at 4:40 you have the jugs on the pistons and mention "they slide right down". I got to that point but when i was sliding the jugs down the oiler rings were pushed out on the sides and i had to pull the whole thing apart and compress the oiler rings and push the piston into the jugs far enough so that the oiler rings were past the arched part of the jug... my concern is during the down stroke how far down does the piston go? If the oiler rings descend below that arch my fear is they will pop out just enough to catch the edge of that arch... pistons and rings are new from namura and jugs are from them as well...

have you ever resurfaced a head on a 800 mine started running like crap after full rebulid and had coolant in the oil

Start with the easy stuff, 600/700 twins known for waterpump seals going out or the seal lip getting rolled when installing a new one. The 800 twin is essentially the same engine. Check the weep hole on the water pump cover, it can be an indicator. Replacing that seal isn't too hard to do. If it's not that, there is a very particular torque to yield sequence for the head on the 6/7/800 family. If that was done properly and with new head bolts, and you have coolant in the engine oil, then I would suspect the head is warped.

Question: I was able to get the pistons started into the sleeves (not sure the right term) and that seemed to be fine but when i got to the oiler ring, even though it was in the sleeve portion it was getting hung up just before going into the cylinder. Had to compress them to get them into the cylinder. I have the whole thing back together and when i turn the motor over manually it seems fine.
My question is, is it fine? Or once I fire it up will that oiler ring clear the cylinder into the sleeve and get hung up on the edge of the actual cylinder?

You did the right thing. Getting that last ring into the cylinder bore can sometimes be a pain, especially if the ring gap point is more off to the side in the "cut" area of the cylinder bore. you may need to compress it a bit to get everything slid up into place.
If you got the rings up into the bore before you slid the bore down, you have no worries. In fact I don't think there's any way you could have gotten the pistons up into the bore any other way. Don't need to worry about the rings falling too low in the bore, or falling out of the bore. the rings never get that low at the bottom of each stroke. I think you're in good shape, FIRE IT UP!

Does it matter how you orientate the head gasket? Like, does one side beed to be up or down? Seems like the gasket is metal and has raised areas...

trying to remember, but I believe you cannot put it on upside down. Just make sure all the holes line up, There might have been a hole for the oil passage that would require the gasket to be put on one way, but just don't remember. As long as your are not covering any passages on the head or the cylinder bore, you're golden.
