    Offset where the seals meet from the baring parting line and you'll be fine. I do it all the time, never fails.

      What he said.... leave one side sticking out of the block the block a few centimeters so the seals dont meet at the same place the block and oil pan meet. This way is just asking for trouble eventually.

    Dear friend, it seems to me that the seal is upside down, please check the assembly instructions for this component

    I got the same seal . Bs40096-1. Had i nick missing in the corner brand new from manufacturing. Fel pro.

      I've had that with several brands where the seal has a nick in it out of the box. That would really suck to have on a rear main seal.

      I have off set the seal contact point many many times never had one leak I slide one side a 1/4 inch into the block and hang the same amount out of the cap and slip them together. Never had a leak.

    Would a 94 5.7tbi have a 2 peace or a 1 peace rear main seal?

      Gm decided to install the 2 piece seals on truck engines after 86 but I’m not sure when they switched over

      @@chickenfoundation9323 1986 was the first year for 1 piece rear main seals actually. 1985 and previous was 2 piece.

    Not the correct way. Seal is supposed to be offset 3/8 and you should never try to rtv ends the seal together, you're asking for a bigger leak or for a chunks of silicone to wind up in the oil.

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  2 роки тому

      I've tried without rtv with or without big offset like that. This small offset with very small dab of rtv is what I found to work the best for me. I've never had one leak this way except one that had a weird defect on it. The silicone had a spot that was missing like a air pocket was there in the manufacturing process or something. Had that on a Ford 9in axle seal once too, Strange... Anyway, I can't say the same for the other times I installed the rear main seal differently. Seems it always leaks to some extent.

    Why wouldnt u do thebrear main seal and caps first and then hook rods and pistons up im lost i guess

    • @CrazedPerformanceRepair
      @CrazedPerformanceRepair  Рік тому

      Seal was backordered or something, I don't recall. That would be the usual way to do it.

    Never seen anyone tap down on the crank with all the pistons and rods hooked up thats odd

      You've never installed one in the vehicle then. Only difference there is this was upside down on a stand.

    I'm seeing nowadays the higher priced SBC 2 pc rear main seals come with an additional O - Ring. I'm trying to figure out why. Anybody know?

      It's for distributor shaft on oil pump

    Can you do that in the car

    This is not how you install that seal. For one, the seal must be offset 3/8 from the split line. You also didn't tell people which way the seal goes. You also should put a film of sealant on the back surface to further help sealing.

      I have never found a Chevy engine rear main seal from the factory that was installed in the off set position, And I put them back like they came out and never had a problem!
