We had no cable or internet as we were very poor college kids, however, we did have a handful of DVDs and this movie was one of them. I remember rolling my eyes the first time we watched it, but it totally grew on me up until the point it became one of my favorite movies we had, and I still speak very fondly of it today.... 10/10 would highly recommend!

    Lizzie on the cliff at 24:53 is filmed at Stanage (Stone Edge in Old English) Edge in The Peak District of Derbyshire, not far from Chatsworth House (Pemberley in the film), home of the Duke and Duchess of Devonshire. The "pretty tree" in the following scene at 25:03 is over 500 years old - more than twice as old as the USA! - and a part of the ancient Sherwood Forest. Not too far away is Little John's grave in Hathersage churchyard. Enjoyed the reaction BTW. Great film.

    Darcy's home is Chatsworth House in Derbyshire, sited in the heart of the Peak District National Park, and you're right, that's a pretty tree in the scene just before we see the house. Chatsworth is famous for it's beauty and for it's gardens, which were designed by the great English gardener Capability Brown. The river was diverted to run in front of the house. There's a gorgeous cascading fountain and many others in the grounds. Thousands visit the house and gardens every year. It's an absolute gem, like this movie ♥.

      HOWARD'S END (the recent 2017 series) from Starz and Prime Video;
      NORTH & SOUTH (2004) on BritBox;
      DOCTOR THORNE (2019 and written by Downton Abbey's Julian Fellowes...but with a bit more scandal) on Amazon Prime Video;
      BELGRAVIA (2020...also by Julian Fellowes...but with a bit more scandal) on Epix;
      THE GILDED AGE (2022 also by Julian Fellowes) on HBO;
      SANDITON (2021) on PBS/BBC -- with a second season beginning next month.
      I'm also currently enjoying the new adaptation of ALL CREATURES GREAT AND SMALL (2021) on PBS -- a true story of a Scottish veterinarian in northern England just before WW2.

    TRIVIA: Talulah Riley plays the role of the very solemn and socially awkward "Mary Bennet." In real life. Talulah Riley was married to Elon Musk (CEO of Tesla, SpaceX, Starlink, Neurolink, The Boring Company, etc.). They were married in 2010, divorced in 2012, remarried in 2013 and divorced again in 2016). She also portrayed the role of "Angela" -- one of the hosts during the first two seasons of WESTWORLD (HBO).

    This novel was published in 1813. Men and women didn’t touch then until marriage which is why the dance is so special. So many rules & regs back then.

    Would recommend the Count of Monte Cristo (2002), a movie with both: dose of Romance, and a hearty helping of Revenge.

    There's no specific year stated for when Pride and Prejudice is set, but because of all the soldiers and regiments, it's safe to assume it was set during the Napoleonic wars (1797-1815).

    As much as I like this movie, it did Darcy wrong. He is not just socially awkward, he is arrogant and full of pride. The BBC 90s version was spot on. Not to mention the costumes here, they are just... Ugh.

    Book was published in 1813 but some think the story is supposed to have taken place half-a-decade earlier. The 6-part series, I believe, was set in the Regency period (early 1800's), due to the ultra-high waistline of the women's dresses. There is also 1940 black-n-white version which isn't too bad, which they set a few decades later, so they could dress the women in the full hoop skirts of the early Victorian era. And this version is backdated a bit into the 1790's, so the waistlines could be somewhat lower. Not sure it really matters other than the fashions, as the manner and social interactions remained the same for a long time.

    Hope you one day watch the a&e mini series, I think it’s the best version imo. Obviously the best choice for him though. Lol. Not a slight…..condensed is good for first timers. The father with his daughters and wife is hilarious. It’s great, love what ya love….there is no better Mr. Darcy than Collin Firth. “Any savage can dance.”

    It's between 1803-1815 during the Napoleonic Wars. That is why there are so many soldiers moving about the country. The regiments are being called up to fight the war in France after a peace treaty between England and France broke down in 1803.
