  • The demo of Oasis's classic song Columbia contains a sample of Tony Benn speaking, which was recorded off the radio. It's presented here in an out-of-phase (OOPS) stereo mix provided by Tom S, which helps make the speech clearer than on the original master heard on the B-side to Supersonic.
Noel Gallagher: "On the demo of Columbia there's a snippet of Tony Benn talking. We were just flicking through the radio recording it, and he was on." (quoted in the sleeve notes to the 2014 reissue of Definitely Maybe).
In the subtitles to this video I've tried to give a sense, as far as possible, of how the speech clips overlap on the recording. The original text Benn read from is given below.
At 4.07 into the track Tony Benn says, "[take] away… the noise of your songs; to the melody of your harps I will not listen." According to this page, this is from the Biblical Book of Amos.

That line is then looped, over which is layered another sample of Benn reading, "Let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream", which, according to this other page is also from the same book of the Bible. tinyurl.com/q95pebx
The programme and radio station from which Benn's reading was sampled is currently unknown, so any info on this would be much appreciated.
The brief excerpt from the original recording used here is presented as 'fair use' according to the 1976 Copyright Act, as it is intended for the purposes of research, criticism, or commentary.

Based on the date and time I think it may have been “Prayer for the Day” on Radio 4

Could be a DJ Shadow intro.
