Another influencer that I watch here on UA-cam removed herself from the Nomad PR list this year, too. I noticed that the latest palette they released didn’t get as much hype as usual. It seemed that whenever they released a palette, my feed was overwhelmed with reviews. I didn’t see that this last time. I’m on a no buy, too. I believe it takes three years to see an actual difference in a collection. A one-year no buy only stops the incoming flow of products; it doesn’t change a large collection. You will eventually see a difference, but you have to be in it for the long haul. That’s what I’m telling myself.
Love this! I did a low buy/no buy last year and was really successful. I’ve tried in the past and failed miserably, but I was finally in a mental state where I realized how much I have. It’s just getting older and unused so I didn’t need to add more to it. It also helped to shift my mindset for saving for something I wanted more, like a house.
Great perspective, thank you for sharing! I feel like the makeup industry had a good run of overconsumerism, but that ship has sailed. If you think about it, we are the first generation that had to deal with social media selling to us. It was fun and new in its hay day, but I feel like shoppers are getting smarter and tiered of being sold to. I am guilty too of falling into these traps but no more.
I just feel like our journey must be taken on our own. I have enjoyed watching the panning community for years and even tried it successfully in the past. But I have just started wishing I had less recently. So I put myself on a no-buy everything (make up, skin care, hair care, perfumes) and only allowing myself to buy when I no longer have anything in the category. I'd rather spend money traveling and making memories than buying things that only leave me happy for a few seconds before I buy something else.
Very interesting and inspiring! I’m on a low buy this year. 😊 I'm happy with my collection and I really don't need much more. I have some other goals I want to save money for. A new cat😻, new iphone📱 ,vacations, new hair color. 💇🏻♀️ All things that cost a lot of money as well. I really don't want to spent that on makeup anymore.
I tried to be on a low-buy last year and still brought in 35 makeup products into my collection! That's just makeup, not including skin/hair/body care. I have those categories down now to the place where I just buy when needed. It's just the makeup I was still buying too much of. I did do pretty well with a few no-buy months last year, but still that was too many products when I already have more makeup than I can use up, or at least will take me a long time! So this year I am doing a Replacement only low-buy. Which I feel like I can do now, I think the act of doing small no-buys throughout the year last year has helped to prepare me for this year. I know that the only things I will need to puchase this year will be mascara and maybe an eyeshadow primer. Other than that, I plan on not purchasing anything else. I'm with you, I realized I have way more than I need and want to try to use up some of these products this year, and probably next year too! Until I can downsize my collection to the products I like and will use regularly. Good luck with your no-buy this year!
My goal is to do a no buy for the first quarter of the year, a replacement only low buy for the second quarter, a few wishlist items during the third (because my birthday falls in that quarter), and I'll see how I feel during the last three months. I usually stock up on skincare during holiday sales, but I went a little overboard, so I probably won't need much. I get the frustration. Sometimes I look at my collection and wonder why I needed to buy so much. I brought in 6 or 7 pallettes last year, and I've barely touched them. I like variety and I have no desire to have a minimalistic collection right now, but it would be nice to have less.
I should try this quarterly plan! 😮my favorite spending months is October - December. I should try using what I have for the first quarterly, then low buy on what I need… and set my mind on buying during October-December months. My birthday is in October. I love fall season and companies come out with holiday sets and stuff by that time.
I have a large perfume collection, many of which doesn’t get used, because my roommate has terrible allergies and I’m not tryna put her thru that lol. The idea of moving with all of them sounds stressful lol.
My goal is to have a low buy on makeup and skincare and only make a purchase if I am completely out of a product. I always get sucked in by the black Friday madness though so we shall see how I do 😊
A move can be eye opening 😅😅I sometimes think about it. That's why I'm trying to stop buying a lot 😅😅I definitely can do much better ❤but I'm happy about progress I made. I need to be better allowing myself to declutter things that I don't enjoy. I usually try multiple times to make things work but some things just aren't for you
I was on a year long replacement only low buy for skincare that worked really well. BUT some time last year multiple of my holy grail items were discontinued 😢and since they're Korean I can't even find any stock on third party sites. So I decided that I will keep an eye and allow myself to stock my holy grail items I used for years at any point.
Very good points here. And yes, when I see these channels and their "beauty rooms" I see thousands and thousands of dollars on makeup that will go bad before it can get used up. And moving is also a good point, one room in your house dedicated to your makeup collection and packing it all up to move. I enjoy it myself but like having a smaller stash, I get tempted to try new brands and formulas but need to remind myself to stick with what I like, because more often than not it's not better than what I already had and it's money down the drain. I would rather invest in a nice piece of jewelry, or something that is going to last a long time, not something that is going to expire. I have also been bit by the reading bug big time, I would rather have my nose in a book these days than do just about anything else. Thanks for this video.
I have been on a low buy or no buy since 2021, In 2022 I had 143 eyeshadow palettes and after 3 to 4 declutters each year I am down to 63 that I love. But still there is only 52 weeks in a year. So I probably will get rid of more. Congrats on the new place!!!
It’s so amazing to see how far you’ve come in your mentality from doing this no buy! I wish you the best of luck this year. I’ve been in “make up rehab” for 10 years, I’ve gradually gone from 99 lip products to 12 but I’m on a no buy till November for my birthday as I bought a bit too much last year for my wedding!
I really liked this video. I'm doing a 110 Day No Buy, that I started on January 1st. If it goes well (or maybe if it goes really badly) I'll keep doing it throughout the year. I don't have that much make up (way less than the average youtuber, but probably more than the average consumer) but the waste is getting to me. So many products I've barely used. And I buy and move on from products so quickly I've never really learnt what suits me and what doesn't. I'm hoping a no buy combined with a project pan will get me being less wasteful and a more considered consumer.
Congratulations on the move! Sounds like the process was eye opening. Good idea to keep the no buy going. I'm doing a couple of projects, an eyeshadow palette rotation again this year, a low buy in some categories and a no buy in others. So far so good.
I am doing a replacement when I run out buy. My birthday was this month so I used points to gets my bday gifts. I might buy something on cyber Monday but only if it really interests me
I'm really loving your new content on fashion. I love it when you talk about perfumes and fashion and jewelry; I hope you will make more videos about quality items you enjoy with those kinds of items. If you want to talk about some favorite books that you want to recommend, that would be GREAT! I love reading too. Have you read Lisa Ko's The Leavers? I just finished it and it made me think of really important contemporary American fiction I've read, including The Color Purple and Beloved.
This is my first no buy and I took 2 months before January to do some brain therapy on my self. I kept reminding my self if it goes bad before I use it up, such a waste. So far I have been good this month. Many temptations but I stayed strong. You can do it!

Oh, thank God. I resubscribed last year after unsubscribing 2 or 3 years ago because I just couldn't continue watching you buy and buy all those crazy unrealistic eyeshadow palettes. It's not because I was judging you, it's because I'd been subscribed to you for over 5 years, loving how intelligent, nice and real you are. It seemed to be driven by a desire to stay close to the "eyeshadow palette community" where you'd made YT friends; otherwise it made no sense whatsoever, as the pretty colors were duplicative with each new palette, unless there were palettes of "fun" new shades offered by indie companies which were unwearable anywhere but in an editorial photo shoot for Vogue.

My plan this year is to do a low buy where I buy replacement products only plus 12 unnecessary makeup purchases until the end of the year.
That sounds like a great plan!!
That’s actually good idea! One unnecessary thing a month….
Very good idea

Declutter declutter!!!
❤️❤️
So how do you get rid of the decluttered makeup if no one wants it? I hate throwing it away!
Yes that can be difficult! Project beauty share accepts lightly used powder products
I made it through almost one month. Oops! 🤣
I keep trying a no buy and keep failing 😞
Me too, so I accepted I was always gonna buy here and there, but just made sure I was way smarter about it, and absolutely no impulse purchases.
@ the impulse purchase is the hard part… once I start spending, I end up spending until I have nothing left or realize I have overspent.
