I'm gonna say it now like I said to another person. Sony is a different workplace then PlayStation. Think about this. If you were working at a Walmart and something happened at another Walmart, your manager wouldn't give a damn. His job is to only worry about his Walmart. If this wasn't true then Xbox One wouldn't have blu ray. Sony owns blu ray.
i love how every single idea that i dream of doing technologically speaking manifests into the videos you post here on youtube. love your videos, you are absolutely brilliant
The only thing i would add is a basic 2x16 alphanumeric LCD screen for the remote so you can know what game is being loaded without having to turn them all on one by one.
Even now I like the idea of using something like the idea of using one of these loaders for my Blu-ray collection so I can keep the cases on display but don't need to take the discs out. Connect each bay in the rack to a switch and press in the case of the disc you want. More likely it would just mount a virtual disk these days.
He should put in a sensor that reads where the carousel is in the cycle, and hook it up to a digit screen that tells the number. Then have a list of which number corresponds to every certain game. Eventually; connect the sensor to a tablet that shows the DVD-covers of each game. Select the game you want, and a simple device put into the dvd-changer tells the carousel motor where to go :) If you can tell which DVD is selected, you can put the top of the changer back on, and it would look cool :)
+1. And they have the advantages of loading faster (a 2.5" hard disk is still faster than the fastest DVD-ROM drive) and that you can actually tell which game you're playing :P
back in 2011 most games had to be out in physical format for a while before anyone released a digital version.. also the physical copies are much cheaper.. by the way, not everybody has a credit card for buying games online and it's super easy for younger people to save money and buy a physical copy.
that would be good, and have a few 7 segment displays that show which number disk you are in the cycle using sensors. that way you can have a list showing the game name against the number and it would be much easier. If only Ben Heck would read these
he's smart enough to put his bong collect in a case, i believe. I love seeing these videos. because it gives me the idea that most people are at least intelligent enough to know what a microcontroller or how their lives work so well.... ramble ramble ramble i hate stupid people
Too lazy to get off the couch to switch a game disk? spend many hours and funds building an extremely fucking complicated and impractical machine to switch your disks for you! xD
dacasman The video is about an automatic game changer. So, if he spends 1000 hours designing that, he may save 1.000.000.000 hours or as long as this works enjoying it. :D
Hiya Ben, i like what you did to a 90' CD changer and convert it to your XBOX 360, but what i DONT Like is the wires and the buttons that will control the carousel mechanism.. why not add an IR remote for the carousel and some LED Digit Display so you know what the disc's location is.. and the remote is embeded to your Xbox controller with some simple addtional switch.. or some combination button.. Back+Trigger.. or different button then trigger.
You should put an LCD screen on the controller to keep track of what game is selected (you'd have to reprogram the arduino every time you add a game though :S)
I would have built the whole xbox into that unit, that would have been cool. Hook up a 20x2 LCD as well for an indicator as to what disc you are on and the whole nine yards :)
everytime one of my friend wants to play a different game, I always think "I'm going to have to get up and walk"... Then I tell them I don't have that game anymore..
I've been wanting to see one of these for a long time, and as awesome as it is, I would like to see a version that doesn't involve modifying the system, itself... maybe a machine that could safely place or pick up the disks from the tray when it's open?
This would be easy with a Wii. Inspecting the load cycle of a Wii and those CD Players, you would just have to cut out a part and replace it with the Entire Wii. (vertical disc loading on both)
You did it. you finally won me over. i love you ben heck. well... Honestly this is my first watch of your vids but hey, a win is a win right? Ill be in touch
Thats very impressive i have a feeling if the smucks are too lazy to get off the couch to change a game there not going to be makings something so sweet! nice vid!
Most of those old auto disc changers could actually be programmed with the cd name, As long as he left those electronics alone you could just input the name of each game.
@Zaviex I noticed that too, along with alot of other things he could have done that he did not. Personally I think it is because he was not interested in doing this project, so it was more of a chore for him. His attitude during the entire video does not have that "Ben Heck Mad Scientist having a blast" feel that we all know and love. We all know it can not be emulated. He only did this because he had so many requests for it xD
Disc changer is cool but I might want to spend on a x360key and rebuild the controller with a wireless control, maybe using a android phone over bluetooth connection, seems doable much enough than finding a old disc changer device.
If you could make the cd changer also nuke a hot pocket, then launch it to you so you could put it in your controller hot pocket holder, that would be a wealth making idea.
I'm not arguing against it. Technology is supposed to make life easier, I agree. On the other hand, a lot of new technology has actually made it harder. Witness the way automotive technology has made things more complex. Greater complexity provides extra things to breakdown, thereby causing more frequent breakdowns, and repair bills have skyrocketed!
But..... you have to load the game to see which game it is. unless you can program the name of the game in each slot. or have a written list on your over size controller.
That was what i have binged when i was 12 😂
This is an innovation that is
Game changing.
Sorry.
Pretty sure somebody else commented this already..
jep, 3 years ago... lol
Haha, this really is a gane changer!
You had one job Callum WK... One job.
How it should have ended: "That's all the time we have for today. In the next episode, we will be making an autonomous beer-retrieval system."
great show, but i thought it was funny you was using a Sony product to load a microsoft product
Sony and Microsoft get along pretty well actually.
Grilled Toast co-owns with Samsung and many other companies
Amir Pourghoureiyan That too.
i love how every single idea that i dream of doing technologically speaking manifests into the videos you post here on youtube. love your videos, you are absolutely brilliant
what happened with the sound at 13:29 it all muted.
Same. Binging these again and was bummed
You know? i dont know nothing about ingeneering but always loved to open my old consoles, and i'm hooked to this show, keep the awesome work man!
How do you know what game you're picking tho?
Write down the order.
This had to be so frustrating behind the scenes, i respect you Mr.Beck.
Make one of these as a base to the Dreamcast... and you have the Holy Grail.
Yeah
I really like Ben Heck, man. It's basically like watching local TV home improvement shows, but filled with cool, nerdy stuff.
I hope the remote controller wasn't the final design, that would suck!
i agree
love the fighting of the smile at the end
wouldnt it be easier to just mod your xbox and have all your games stored on the hard drive ?
you will have to use a banned xbox, or you will get ban if you do that for doing that
XxxRagdexxX pc master race
XxxRagdexxX
I wish people on Xbox actually did get banned, agreed on the pc thing if you can stand the keyboard mouse.
***** This is a video from 2011, and even when you install the game the Xbox still needs the disk as a key to run it.
XxxRagdexxX not if you mod it.
Nice project, Ben. I just loved the dramatic ending... lol
You're awesome, Ben.. and your mom's basement must be HUGE!
nope in 6:52 you can see that there is a garage door in the backround
Finished basement with car hold?
maybe. who knows :D
Bocephus Blue It is actually a workshop i think.
The only thing i would add is a basic 2x16 alphanumeric LCD screen for the remote so you can know what game is being loaded without having to turn them all on one by one.
Ben how would you know what game you choosing?
17:38 ..... ICBM.... LOL
modify a pong console to be able to play xbox one games
So many awesome projects and details in your show. Glad I discovered this recently.
Too bad you couldn't build both units into one box. Would be so much better.
THAT ENDING WAS EPIC !!!
So I guess Reach is out of your reach...
Lol
*ahahhhahahahahahahaha*
I see what you did there
16:00 lol, when you said that you got the arduino from the vending machine, I didn't expect that to be literal
but how does he know which game to select? is there an interface which shows which game to play?
Even now I like the idea of using something like the idea of using one of these loaders for my Blu-ray collection so I can keep the cases on display but don't need to take the discs out. Connect each bay in the rack to a switch and press in the case of the disc you want. More likely it would just mount a virtual disk these days.
if only he could REACH it!! get it?
Get it but it is boring as sh*t
huan gia my joke or the game?
xXJ0SH7417Xx yeah like i sat down and read all the comments to see if someone else thought of it...gg dude
He should put in a sensor that reads where the carousel is in the cycle, and hook it up to a digit screen that tells the number. Then have a list of which number corresponds to every certain game. Eventually; connect the sensor to a tablet that shows the DVD-covers of each game. If this guy was my dad
mate! you are a legend! please keep making videos!
maybe next time you should REACH for Reach. wait what? Reach was out of REACH? lol
Had to come back and watch this again. Going to make a more compact version for my all 3 of my Xbox console generations.
can you build a game changer for my steam library?.......
+lukas akerlund lol
Watching this show makes everything I own seem like a Christmas present, all I need to do is "unwrap" it.
3 words, digital downloadable games
+1. And they have the advantages of loading faster (a 2.5" hard disk is still faster than the fastest DVD-ROM drive) and that you can actually tell which game you're playing :P

PC has something like that, it's called steam and you don't need crappy discs.
I love steam but they really need to add trading and refunds :/
Luka Savic Trading is avalabile ... and before you buy a game watch some gameplay....
Console has somethin like it steam digital download shut the fuck up kid
Nope....you dont have as many options as on pc....
TheUnknownContact #1 How so? PC has a lot of games. Most console games (Other than the exclusives that you cling on to) have a superior PC port.
At 13:30 the audio cuts out
All those munchies and not a single bong layin around?
he's smart enough to put his bong collect in a case, i believe.
I love seeing these videos. because it gives me the idea that most people are at least intelligent enough to know what a microcontroller or how their lives work so well.... ramble ramble ramble i hate stupid people
Jesus Christ he made a bong changer system so they go back safely in the case when he's done
your effort to make no effort is amazing. lol im subscribing.
game changer
5:21 there is a kinect on top of an old computer monitor... awesome :D
Too lazy to get off the couch to switch a game disk? spend many hours and funds building an extremely fucking complicated and impractical machine to switch your disks for you! xD
dacasman but it's cool as hell
I know
it is :p
dacasman Hey, that's what automatic is like ;)
***** Automatic transmission?
dacasman The video is about an automatic game changer. So, if he spends 1000 hours designing that, he may save 1.000.000.000 hours or as long as this works enjoying it. :D
Hi Brent Spiner; Fantastic show thank you!
No audio from 13:31?
This man should mass produce stuff like this.
you sir just made the funniest comment ever will note it down we need persons like you on the earth. thankyou sir very much.
The time I've spent changing disks in my life isn't even half the time it takes to make this...
but I sure as hell enjoyed it anyway :D
I swear to God, this would be PERFECT to go along with Kinect!
15:17
BLATANT DOMINO'S PRODUCT PLACEMENT BEN!!!!
I love your show! Thanks for your videos Ben!
are you able to put the innards of the ps3 slim inside the original 60gb fat ps3 and have it work?
Fit a camera to the inside of the changer with an lcd screen in the controller. That way you can see the games, no games list required!
Hiya Ben, i like what you did to a 90' CD changer and convert it to your XBOX 360, but what i DONT Like is the wires and the buttons that will control the carousel mechanism.. why not add an IR remote for the carousel and some LED Digit Display so you know what the disc's location is..

One of the most amazing things to me
I would have built the whole xbox into that unit, that would have been cool. Hook up a 20x2 LCD as well for an indicator as to what disc you are on and the whole nine yards :)
You did it, Ben! You made me laugh! Right when your face popped up with chocolate cake all over it. I thought that was pretty funny.
Thats actually really epic
The Ben TopKek Show
@MrMobss when you are surfing through games it loads it in the xbox, it should say what game it is on the tv
Modded drive firmware overriding the disc-in check, but this is way more novelty and cool :P
This is pretty awesome.
everytime one of my friend wants to play a different game, I always think "I'm going to have to get up and walk"... Then I tell them I don't have that game anymore..
I like your style
and arms with hands on your backpack that can stretch really far equipped with radio active gloves that act like a controller for the arms and hands
Loved it! This is awesome stuff going on!
I've been wanting to see one of these for a long time, and as awesome as it is, I would like to see a version that doesn't involve modifying the system, itself... maybe a machine that could safely place or pick up the disks from the tray when it's open?
@waspygravy2 well you would have to go into your personal settings and make sure you disable automatically load game when disc is inserted..
This would be easy with a Wii. Inspecting the load cycle of a Wii and those CD Players, you would just have to cut out a part and replace it with the Entire Wii. (vertical disc loading on both)
8:06. OMG, it's Radar O'Reilly!
i like that its microsoft and sony working together
You did it. you finally won me over. i love you ben heck.
well... Honestly this is my first watch of your vids but hey, a win is a win right?
Ill be in touch
a good idea for this, is to add the xbox to the side and put it into one big custom case that looks like a massive xbox!
Thats very impressive i have a feeling if the smucks are too lazy to get off the couch to change a game there not going to be makings something so sweet! nice vid!
Most of those old auto disc changers could actually be programmed with the cd name, As long as he left those electronics alone you could just input the name of each game.
yeah i could do this or unless working so much i could spend the time playing and changing the games by myslef but YOU ARE GENIOUS
Now the only problem is knowing which disc you're at without having to load every one
@Zaviex
I noticed that too, along with alot of other things he could have done that he did not. Personally I think it is because he was not interested in doing this project, so it was more of a chore for him. His attitude during the entire video does not have that "Ben Heck Mad Scientist having a blast" feel that we all know and love. We all know it can not be emulated. He only did this because he had so many requests for it xD
@Zaviex You have to change the names in te program tfrom "disc:1" to the name of the game. Simple.
How do you know what discs are cycling? Also would you have a wireless remote to do that?
Whats the name of the Song at 13:40 - i can't find anything in the credits. Nice idea on this project, it is harder to realise then i thought.
Is that tube suppose to represent a bong? Hahaha
The moment that Ben notices his fridge is coin-operated...
The distinct ironies is the brand of the changer he used.
17:40 lol ICBM, Ben has nukes!
a microcontroller from a vending machine. Epic.
omg, yes. the thumbnail is beautiful!! Cx
0:58 If only you can Reach Reach.
1) How does he know what game he's picking?
2) Who drank his beer when he just arrived?
3) The ending made me laugh.
Disc changer is cool but I might want to spend on a x360key and rebuild the controller with a wireless control, maybe using a android phone over bluetooth connection, seems doable much enough than finding a old disc changer device.
17:52 i like the end!
If you could make the cd changer also nuke a hot pocket, then launch it to you so you could put it in your controller hot pocket holder, that would be a wealth making idea.
1 how do you know which disc is being selected ?
2. doesn't keeping the cd's like that in open air spoil them, i mean dust and all that?
I'm not arguing against it. Technology is supposed to make life easier, I agree. On the other hand, a lot of new technology has actually made it harder. but how would you know what game your picking?
the world may never know
+Chris S tru af
How about a written list ? :P Then you can figure out how to move to a desired game by loading just one game blindly.
Everyday Fun Projects not from that distance
Wouldn't it be easier to get a dvd changer, so you could just use the drive that comes with the player? Or do dvd players use IDE drives?
Next Episode: Ben builds a portal gun to get beer from his refrigerator.
