I worked in Indonesia for the last 20 years of my working life in mining, which involved company sponsored KITA’s. I retired to Bali 3 years ago and after a 1 year spouse KITAS sponsored by my Indonesian wife, ontained a 5 year initial KITAP through her also and this included a 2 year multi entry visa. I leave the country 3 or 4 time a year and yesterday, on my way to Singapore, got far as imigrasi at the airport where they pointed out my multi entry visa had expired. I could have still left, but my KITAP would be voided and I would have to go through the whole process again to obtain a new one. Obviously I am still in Bali today and my warning to all, is to keep a close eye on the validity dates on any immigration documentation you have, because as in my case, time skips by and you forget about these things.

Thanks, Muzza, for that great insight. From my perspective, the Balinese government has decided to raise its profile. Probably to align to places like the Maldives and Tahiti for example. They want to attract tourists with a big disposable income. They become an exclusive island that will attract people who can afford their intended luxury. Those that can not, will find other destinations.

Yes. This is their plan. Indonesian media has been reporting this for years. Expect further financial pressure on retirees and restrictions on long term visas.

Got told by an agent in Bali that the NEW B211A with straight 180 days visa (no extensions like the current B211A) you will need US$60,000 annual income.
ALSO, that means Australian aged pensioners getting approx AU$2000 (Single Person) a month will not be able to live in Indonesia long term. As most pensioners live month to month with limited cash in the bank.
Sometimes I think Western governments like Australia have been leaning on countries like Indonesia, to tighten up the visa regime because they are not happy with their citizens spending their money outside Australia long term.
Maybe this is a test run to see if they can drag in millions and, if not, they will change the rules again and, then again when a newly elected government is installed.

Thank you for video Murray, easy to understand and informative.
I`m fortunate to be able to afford the $50,000 USD to deposit into a local bank, without Indonesian government guarantees on return of the $50,000 if the bank collapses it`a no go visa for myself and many other people looking for expat retirement abroad.
The new regs will take a lot of expat money out of the local economy, I wonder if there will be enough wealthy retirees etc to make it up.
Keep up the great work mate.

Regarding Kitas for retirees, I completely agree with you. Since the requirements have changed and you must have at least $3000 USD per month, this is going to cause problems for many people and that's a shame. Bali is getting too greedy. They only want rich people.

I can understand why the government is putting things in place in Bali as there’s now just too many ppl living there and not contributing to the system. Thank you so much Murray for providing information that actually makes some sense. Sad to say though it looks like my dream to retire to Bali has now slipped away. Having to rely on the Australian aged pension for income comes way short of the criteria as is the expectation of having a huge amount of money sitting around to deposit into a bank account. Cheers

The Philippines and Cambodia are still easy places to live in. You can be on a tourist visa for up to 36 months in Phils. I understand you only need to be over 55 to get a retirement visa for Cambodia. Info: Amazing Philippines channel for Phils, Dave Does Cambodia and For Riel channels for Cambodia. Take care.

To make the Aus pension portable there are rules. I wouldn’t assume that you will get the Aus pension when you leave, there is a 2 yr wait and if you return for more than 6 months you have to serve 2 yrs wait again. I advised our mates of this, they were unbelievers, they found out the hard way!
      nationalseniors.com.au/uploads/1409-NationalSeniorsAustralia-FactSheet-AgePensionPortability.pdf
With the fluid Bali visa issue and the strict Aus policy, isn’t worth it.

    G'day Muzza.
Here's what I'll be doing when I retire:
Fly to Bali - and spend 60 days in paradise.
Then catch a cheap flight to Thailand - spend 60 days in Pattaya.
Then back to Bali for 60 days, before another 60 days in Pattaya. And so forth. No need to obtain a long-term visa in either country.

Yeah...There are things that are concerning and confusing...
Would be GREAT to do a Q & A if he would be happy to do so, maybe in a week or 2 to give time for questions to come in.
( HE IS VERY HAPPY TO SHARE HIS EXPERTISE AND HE IS ALSO CONCERNED THAT PEOPLE COMING TO LIVE IN BALI GET THE RIGHT INFORMATION AND ASSISTANCE ).
Just sat through this.again and really the take away for me was.....
GET CLEAR AS TO EXACTLY WHAT YOU WANT TO DO IN BALI.
HOW LONG YOU REALLY WISH TO STAY.
AND HOW YOU WANT TO LIVE IN BALI.
I think when you have that clear, a lot of the regulations do not apply and drop out of focus. Making it easier to navigate your requirements with the regulations that apply.
Thanks Muzza, definately see why you would want an icey cold drink of coke before you started. 😮😅

Doesn’t seem fair for the old expats that have lived in Bali and supporting the economy for years. I think it would be wise for Aussies, to NOT sell their homes in Australia whilst living in Bali. Always have your home in Aus for just in case, unforeseen circumstances as law changes or medical conditions etc.

Hmmmm. I do hope the Indonesian Government isn't going to shoot themselves on the foot with the new Senior Citizens (2nd Home) Visa. Many of us on the old retirement kitas are happy to continue to support the country's economy by renting accommodation and employing staff. But to tell us we now have to deposit $75K AUD into a local bank account, is a game changer, and will likely drive alot of people like ourselves away. I hope common sense prevails Muzza.

YOu are such a smart and nice guy. Also likes to drink! I wish while I was stuck in Bali during covid I would have been able to meet you and your Wife. I had my restaurant in tanjung Benoa but it didnt survive Covid and I lost the motivation to start it up again. from 2019 until 2022 I was there without exiting, so once I left I was relieved and havnt been back. My mother still lives there so I will be back to visit at some point. There are very many russians these days living there. more I dont say. ALso all the construction.....it takes away from the true Bali I grew up in the year 1990. YOu mentioned how lucky people like us were to experience covid there....how right you are...the island just for ourselves only. SInce I grew up there form age 5 (my parents also had a hotel in nusa dua, bali royal suites) since I am close to the locals and speak bahasa and balinese so I wanted to make content like BALI BEHIND THE SCENES...not from the typical travel or tourist perspective but seeing the way the locals live really and this during covid times. THat is what I wanted to make my youtube channel about but it didnt work out for me...now my channel is just comedy so nothing relating to the island. THANKS FOR THE SUPER VIDEOS!! GOOD ON YOU!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

i lived in Bali for 14 years and never used a visa agent ..., the truth is everything in Indo regarding law and visas will always be presented as vague or grey .
Immigrassi and Indonesians in general 'often' dont even have the correct answers themselves laid out clearly and precisely for the 'nitty-gritty' details for things.
Changes on rules or procedures in Indonesia change rapidly like the weather, thus making it difficult for even them to keep up to date....,
BUT - What makes thing even worst , and more confusing , and even totally misleading I..., is their custom of 'saving face' .
What this means in real life, is more often than not, Indonesians try to avoid admitting they do not have the answer to your question, as to them this makes them 'lose face' or feel stupid etc.
So...., (lets say you went to immigrasi for information) ...., rather then lose face in front of you (i.e. by admitting they dont know the answer to your question, or are confused by the vagueness of the recent updates etc) It is common practice to simply invent their 'own interpretation' of the answer. Not all do this, but many do, especially if you get up on your 'high horse' thus worstening the matter.., where theyll avoid seeking a superior to get the correct answer, as they'll feel like they are losing face in front of them also.
If you need to correct a misinformed immigrassi officer, do so only with extreme tact and caution so they 'save face' , ONLY do it in such a way as to deliver it to them like is not their fault, remain humble , and the blame for any confusion is because of example; opon head office/ or someone else / etc, and never on them.., otherwise the door will close in 'your face' every time. Tii
