I grew up eight miles from Disneyland. The resort was a second home for thirty years. I now live on the East Coast and visit when I can. While I have my many reservations and disappointments about the management sometimes, I truly appreciate the joy and care you feel for the Park. I thought I knew everything about the place but today you proved me wrong. I hope to see you filming in the Park one day to thank you in person. Thank you for being a friend to those of us who still get homesick for Disneyland.

My first trip to Disneyland was in 1976. I was 6. It was Bicentennial EVERYTHING. If you weren't there, you have no idea. The whole country was nuts for it. I remember really enjoying America Sings, and I'm not sure it was still there on my next trip in the 80's.

I sat here glued to my seat with a big smile for all the nostalgia …and like others, I too remember the (2nd Gen) Indian Village on my very first visit to the Park oh so long ago with my parents. Now, I’m going back to rewatch this episode one more time! 👍 🇺🇸
Recall also that Walt had deep personal respect and sensitivity to Native American life as it is Lillian’s family background (and they are extremely important to Disney’s life and business).
I feel like it's difficult to find any information on the Indian Village part of the park. I'm Navajo and my grandfather left the Navajo Nation and lived in Los Angeles to work as a carpenter. He also had a side job of rowing canoes and performing at the Indian Village in the 50's. My family has one photo of him dressed in traditional garments posing with Disneyland visitors. I'm always on the look out for more photos/vidoes of that era hoping to find my grandfather singing or posing with Disneyland goers. Thank you Brickey for shedding some light on the American Indian Village history of Disneyland. Us Indigenous folks appreciate any recognition we can get.

Pretty sure the “males only” canoe operator policy had more to do with upper body strength in evacuation scenarios than deeply seated misogyny.
I call bullshit. If they needed upper body strength, they could have required upper body strength. Instead, they required a penis.
