Hey there Laura! Great lesson again. I don't worry with accent because the most important is the person can express yourself to the other one. Laura, I don't know if you've done but one day make a video in a restaurant showing how you do to ask the order for the clerk, I'd like to see it.

Very inspiring video/lesson. Very smart teacher, though. Thank you! English is my 2nd language and I've struggled with that misconception of pushing myself to imitate those english native accent in order to be perceived by the mass as a good speaker of english, but that's a totally wrong approach as Laura clearly explained. "It's more important to be able to communicate clearly and with ease our ideas , have good articulation, pronunciation, diction and a wider variety of vocabulary under our belt for all situation as needed, rather than put our whole focus on acting to sound as a native speaker(of course, if you are not at actor) as I did", I think this wrong thinking is more down to self-insecurities than to the actual use of English per se. After all these 10 years learning the language, I am not still at ease with vocabulary in my conversation, it takes me a good time to elaborate using the right words and being concise, and the problem was that I spent to much time trying to be someone else. A reminder for all english learners friends, "There is nothing wrong with our accents, because they show our identity, who we really are, and that's how we can give more value and express our potential as teacher Laura said". mostly people from india or singapore create their own intonations and accents and this is problematic. if they cant pronounce P sound or W or TH sound, is one thing, i simply need to ask them 1st as to how consonants were changed (example they said like "dayball", what they were trying to say was "dipole" ).once i learn the changes, it goes smooth sailing. but why do they need to change even the intonations and the emphsized locations of syllables? because my brain goes wow, it goes over my head.
She has an accent. LOL. I think that having a foreign accent in any language has something particular, and yes obviously it must be spoken correctly, but a native will always realize that you are a foreigner, they will even notice it with the slang. Thank you for sharing teacher Laura!!!
