I just hooked up a Keystep Pro to control a JX-08 and a JD-08, but the JX runs threw a Microcosm & NTS-1, and the JD-08 passes threw a BigSky. All I have to say is the results are incredible. I’m very impressed with the sound. It’s got me wanting to create rhythmic ambient like textures. With them units sitting above the Keystep Pro and the Digitakt & Digitone on the sides of the KP, I really think I found my ultimate setup. I got some audio routing to do in the DAW, and most of the midi mapping is complete. After I fine tune them elements I plan to create some tracks with it. The possibilities are incredible. Very happy with my decision to purchase these new Boutique’s.
Another great infinite reverb option is the Korg NTS-1 with hammondeggsmusic's Cathedral, Theatre, Haze, Mist, Breathe, and Sniff "deep reverbs". They're free/donationware.
Absolutely I second this, I use them on my Minilogue XD and they sound ace! I'm grateful that I've managed to order a Ventris this week... It'll be my forst higher end hardware reverb pedal... The one that I've been dreaming of since the late 1980's! 🙂 ... there'll be many a drone to come!
Great tutorial Nick !! I just hooked up my GAIA to control the JX-08 via standard MIDI cable and and and...WOW you can not only use the dedicated "HOLD" button on the GAIA but can use the underated arpegios in the GAIA its very powerful WOW !! Perfect match and didnt have to do anything but hook MIDI out of the GAIA to MIDI in on the JX-08....just WOW !! The sliders/knobs are the best Ive ever felt on a small synth like this....like WOW !!
Love it Nick! I have a H9 maxed out, but that Ventris dual reverb has always sounded ethereal and completely blissfully otherworldly in your hands. Always inspiring, cheers from Australia.
sonicstate Doesnt it have the same osc sync trick that you would use on the 3P to get PWM? Actually not really even a “trick” since Roland put it in the manual. Set both oscs to square, then turn on sync so osc 2 syncs to osc 1. LFO to osc 2 pitch. Play with the fine and coarse tuning of osc 2 to set the PWM depth. What’s cool is it goes through zero with this method, at least on the 3p.
Friday fun is always a joy with you. I kinda wish you'd mix your voice audio louder though. I often have to turn the volume up when you speak and then down when you play. Something I've noticed a lot of channels suffer from actually. Maybe a little compressor on dialog would do it, or maybe it's just my ears don't like the wider dynamic. All the same, cheers! : )
In the mid-90s I sold my JX, now I have several analogs and VAs with many more options. Still regret it. 😪 It hits a sweet spot for bright, glassy instruments as showcased here.
Hello. i have read the manual of the jx-8 and couldnt find any references to a modulation matrix in the roland jx-08. is there a way to assign mod wheel (cc1) to filter cut off and set min and max ranges?
If the JX-08 would also control my JX-8P, I would buy one. What a missed opportunity there from Roland. I don't even understand why the would decide against this. Oh well. Great jam.
@@rdean150 I am saying that the flimsy plastic PG-800, costs as much, if not more than the JX-8P nowdays. Granted if you use a DAW you can use the free Ctrlr editor and control the JX-8P remotely from your DAW (and have lots more space to save patches). Of course there are "3rd party" companies making controllers, like the DT-800, but it would be Roland getting the cash instead and existing JX-8P users adding 20 digital voices in their set ups, but no, Roland just didn't want to bother.
Is it possible to play different patches of the JX08 on each track of the Keystep or you have to split the keyboard and only use PartA and PartB patches ?
Great noodling Nick, thanks for posting. Quick question, what would you recommend for a beginner who is trying to capture all of the sounds on a similar setup?
I hope for the 50th anniversary, Roland remakes the Jupiter 8/808/909/101. It would be a nod to their fans that have begged for it for years and let other companies easily remake their stuff.
I love how Nick says “you can come up with much better than what I can…” then absolutely kills it. Love the Friday Fun Jams!
JX-08 + Ventris = a mini 3rd wave Groove Synthesis ❤

Love your Friday fun jams. Release an album already!

Love your jams Nick 🙌😉😸
Thankyou, Nick, for another beautiful Friday Fun ad-lib. Brilliant!
Great sounds and great work Nick🎹🎹
Great jam, looking forward to the full review.
Nick this channel is quite inspiring. Your demos and reviews have taught me a lot.
Nick, special thanks to you for enthusiasm, dedication and motivation
Loving the noodle Nick. I'm running this into a Nightsky - sounds amazing.

Nick’s noodling should be an inspiration to us all.
Brilliant.
The PWM is so good on the JX-08, as you know this is the most critical question!
It doesn't have any sadly

I just assumed it would have PWM, silly me. Its the Junos and Jupiters (hence the JU-06, JU-06A and JP-08) that have PWM.

This
I would buy an ACB version, already got Zen Core in my MC-707. Great jam! That Ventris is still sounding lovely
Sound incredible
I had some U2, Wolf Alice Silk and TD moments here. Nice sounds fom nice units 👍🏼
Nice, I have a Source Audio Collider and I love it, it basically has half of a Ventris inside.
In the mid-90s I sold my JX, now I have several analogs and VAs with many more options. Still regret it. 😪 It hits a sweet spot for bright, glassy instruments as showcased here.
best jam ive seen you do.
Absolutely gorgeous tones and textures ! Why are you not doing score work Nick ?
Because Ty has the entire lock on the UK. 😬
That's lovely, Alan.
@sonicstate Looks like it should say "JX-08" in the description, instead of "JD-08"?
Great atmosphere.
Thanks Nick great noodling.
So its mult-timbral, eh? Interesting!
Love the spicy noodle frozen fortune teller segments.
Awesome jam! Review coming soon I hope?
Indeed, I hope Nick gives it a fair shake because it's a stunning little synth.
Yes, soon
Hello. i have read the manual of the jx-8 and couldnt find any references to a modulation matrix in the roland jx-08. is there a way to assign mod wheel (cc1) to filter cut off and set min and max ranges?
I imagined Lynn Gunn the lead singer of PVRIS vocals on this. Make it happen Nick.
If the JX-08 would also control my JX-8P, I would buy one. What a missed opportunity there from Roland. I don't even understand why the would decide against this. Oh well.
Great jam.
Wait are you saying that this little Boutique is actually MORE user-friendly and playable than the original synth it was cloned from? That's wild.

Keep them coming Roland, but please don't let the wifey see my credit card statement.

Would love to know this also, as I am thinking about buying but not sure if it’s possible?
Nice to see the Ventris dusted off.. 😉
Excellent! 🙌🏻
Wait wait wait, this has some sort of split function? With the bass and lead both coming out simultaneously?
Yup 2 part synth with separate FX per layer + separate outs over usb audio
2:06 - "it's got two layers"
Jesus Nick, sure you don't have an album brewing?
Great noodling Nick, thanks for posting.
Quick question, what would you recommend for a beginner who is trying to capture all of the sounds on a similar setup?
Something like a 1010Music Bluebox or blackbox
@@sonicstate Thank you 🙏🏼
Fantastic! Watch also my synth jams!

If other companies have "easily remake their stuff", then why are you still begging for Roland to do it?
@@antikytheramechanism7909 So now you claim that they don't "easily remake their stuff".
I like better the original 😔synth from the 80’s
This is a cheaper version for those that can't afford the original lol
Nick, please, my wallet :(
nah fam
