Got the manual transmission. Lots of fun. With a tune this bike is even more smooth and the power delivery is perfection. Bike keeps up with super sports on the canyon rides we do. Touring isn’t bad either with a throttle lock.
The cop throws in a lie at 5:11. He claims that filming him "without permission" is "against the law." He's wrong. It's not against the law to film anything or anyone while you're in public. You don't need anyone's permission to film them in public. That's the law. He's uninformed or is lying.
some people dis the look of this bike. personally I think its a pretty package, and apparently performs well to. thanks honda for trying something different. bikes should not have to conform to stereotypes
@bassist4dalord People with prosthetic limbs (such as military vets) can be quite strong despite a difficulty in shifting/clutching ordinary bikes. I think anything that helps them get on two wheels (beyond a scooter) is a win.
Great review, I'm glad you included your feelings about the DCT. And the officer was wrong. Riding "in a pack" is not illegal, speeding is though, he's a public servant in a public place and can expect to be filmed, just like you and me. As long as you don't interfere with the performance of his duties and you aren't being detained, you don't have to inform him. Funny how this topic has really come home in the years since this was filmed. He gave you a warning because he was being filmed!
I would really like to take this bike for a spin. I see this coming to other bikes very soon. I love that the cops still wear the "Chips" uniform after so many years!!!
This is a good report of DCT from a rider's perspective. It sounds like the engineers have dialed in the technology, but the hard part will be selling it to motorcyclists. I hope someone buying a 1200CC sport bike has riding experience. That rider might prefer the control of a clutch. There may be a market for this type of transmission on entry-level machines or maybe "Winnabiko" tourers. Will this bike stop and idle in gear? How is low speed handling in the "clutch-slip" zone?
that is an example of a great police officer. he made it a positive encounter which can go a long way to improving things between the police and motorcyclists. kudos to him.
Good vid. Much better than the amateurish MCN efforts. Can't say I like the VFR. All the lines are just wrong. Just look at a few photos of the VFR750F from the late 80s. Lean, sleek and well proportioned. Then come back to the bulbous lines of this bike.
Its good that Big Ugly Highway Patrol Cop just mumbled some crap and let you go or I would have to come out there with my Biker Buds and set him straight. The VFR1200F DCT is a good motorcycle and thankyou for doing a review on it.Good Work.
read this months popular mechanics magazine... on the whole illegal to record thing... it might show something different... from what i took away from it there is no federal law against it... but it's currently on a case by case basis...
for me an automatic transmission for a bike is a solution to a problem that doesn't exist...the control ergonomics on a bike are so perfect that it amounts to thought control. now a manual shifting car,for me,is a pain in the a,especially in city traffic, especially on steep grades, especially at a stop at the top of a hill..so for cars, automatics make much more sense...my cars are auto's,none of my bikes.
should have dual clutched your arses out of their!... on a serious notes that cop was riding a harley? surely theyre a little, dare i say 'slow' in a chase situation?
awww whaaaa? american cops are so cool compared to british cops we get 3 points on are license for going 33 mph in a 30 zone you can fail your driving test if you even go 32 in a 30 mph zone.. UK sucks lmao..

@thegameturtle depends on the type of first bike you get. Honda is not the only company that makes Automatic Motorcycles.
That's right
Don't forget about aprilia and ridley

Awesome cop. Hope there would be more of these guys.. truly promotes the relation between riders, cars and cops!
i definitely appreciate the review!
Unlike Toyota, Honda is always moving forward when you want them to.

I am happy you did not edit out the cop part
haha that ending was completely win!

Ok people cut the cop some slack he gave them a warning. Props to this review on this awesome bike and props to the cop, need more like him in Cali.

gawdamm I love those Chips helmets so much.
I get that it was a while ago when this was filmed, but 360p? Really?
yep, and at 1:46 you can see the clutch handle so this is no DCT

Why is it no one mentions what it's like for using the engine and gear box to brake the bike back saving on pad wear
You can still shift the gears manually, however is still got myself a normal shifter version.
I can't believe that bike cops in America ride in shirtsleeves. Crazy! Here in the UK it is ATGATT. Oh, and I prefer my non DCT VFR1200!
in the UK the weather is shit.......shirtsleeves probably doesnt exist there......no need in that fucking rain and wind. Only idiots live there
Yea good cop, but its not illegal to firm in a public area and you don't HAVE to advise him..
Just watched waheed ride a Hayabusa today in 2020. He looks so young, here.

that was a bad ass cop
It's the best in 2020 !!!
Pulled over for riding in a pack......and a little fast. Nice cop. Three guys on new bikes and wearing the gear and obviously not a bunch of squids.
wrong officer....its not against the law, there is no need to advise you of anything other than the fact i know my rights....thank you :)
Cool cop. All he's saying is they can't film him without his prior knowledge and consent. And the speeding, of course.
Jon Nelson you can film anyone in public with or without their consent. There is no law against that.
read this months popular mechanics magazine... on the whole illegal to record thing... it might show something different... from what i took away from it there is no federal law against it... but it's currently on a case by case basis...
Good intelligent..REAL world cop...need more like him !!!
There you go. He said it.
This bike will replace your hoveround.
Cool ass cop.... And the bike (Nice)...........
@zeth609 er no it isnt
If that cop caught three squids doing 80mph... It would be different..
Wearing the proper gear makes u look more responsible id say.
Nice cop
yes it sir, it most was certainly sarcasm sir. but seriously i actualy was joking. and yes it is not worth the possible consequence
cool cop
HUH??? there one in the same..... Anyhow, my bike and car is manual and I wouldn't have either any other way till I'm old.
This guy needs a fidget spinner.
lol You dont have to tell a cop youre recording. Its your 1st amendment right.

yup . just ask Ferrari, who hasnt offered a manual in 15 years
no she only gives them to 2nd comment
@JakesToons pwahahah!
I use the manual clutch for more than just changing gears. If you ride this DCT, stick with your Cadillac...please.
should have dual clutched your arses out of their!... on a serious notes that cop was riding a harley? surely theyre a little, dare i say 'slow' in a chase situation?
Joe biden?
awww whaaaa? american cops are so cool compared to british cops we get 3 points on are license for going 33 mph in a 30 zone
you can fail your driving test if you even go 32 in a 30 mph zone.. UK sucks lmao..
It's not Rly a good first bike bc it's Probly really heavy. But it's not a good second or third bike because by then you know how to use a clutch
