December 26, 2020. The news that Barry Lopez died was on the radio today. I dropped everything to listen for the 4 minute broadcast. It's a terrible loss for everyone who was inspired by his writings and his public speaking. Gone now is an eloquent voice of conscience that is so important at this critical time. To anyone who respected Barry and loved his writing I send my sympathy and my encouragement to continue his mission.
The forces of consumerism (and the corporations that make obscene profits from feeding us a constant stream of unnecessary items and ideas) are relentless. Never sleeping, always promoting a way of life that destroys everything meaningful. In the end it is up to us individually and as a group to reject the crap that keeps coming at us. It's a daily battle, but we WILL WIN. Remind yourself: you have a choice. ALWAYS.

@@patriciabulittbulitt8931 Aw, thank you for your encouragement. I would love to see a turning toward kindness and patience among so many shrill voices. However I can I will bring my own creativity into that. Best wishes to you in the new season.

For someone--a writer--Barry--to include " can you show me a few dance steps.." including DANCE IS SO RARE as a reminder to the dominant culture, I think. And as a dancer and dance ethnologist this brings me to weep, and to regard once again his teachings and gifts HE learned shared. THANK YOU ALWAYS>

What a powerful statement about what is missing in our modern, technocratic world. Thank you.

Agree with Issarra. A treasured walker on the spirit road. His book on the Arctic was a testament to devotion. I know he suffered and persevered.

The children of Mother Earth are starving for TRUTH. The truth of our historied past, the truth of our present. When we HAVE truth, we will KNOW what to DO to provide HEALING... and we would have a good indication of what kind of future we should be building, together. Of all the limitless, possible, creatively imagined civilizations and world we could be building... THIS is the one we're choosing?
