Just had to comment how cute your hair style looked at the beginning of this video! 😍 There certainly is a variety of jobs around the farm. Many thanks for sharing all the chores that go on. Seems to never end sometimes. 😊
I've been waiting for some nice fresh potatoes to get to the grocery store. Thanks to all the farmers for busting your butts and helping America eat good quality food.
Reading through some of the comments, it was reassuring to know that peoples disconnect between farm and table isn’t complete, and that there is an appreciation and respect for the hard working family farms across this great nation. Blessing be on you and have a bountiful 2025!
Thanks for your hard work keeping us in the loop on harvest. Still don’t have internet back here in Deep South Georgia. Hurricane Helene hit us pretty hard. Recovery is progressing, never under estimate the power of resilient people in large groups. A special thanks to everyone that donated time and supplies to help us out!
Your videos are always interesting. I did not know that the floors had to be so clean before putting potatoes in. Thank you for taking the time to share this process with us. Looking forward to the harvest.
Thank you once again for sharing, I am farming here in Ireland 🇮🇪 and am continously amazed at the scale of your farms and the quality of the land and also the machinery. Waiting patiently for the next instalment.
From beginning to end the process of learning the basics of getting the potatoes to bed for the winter months.everything you do has a purpose.❤. ..this has been an experience and I’ll be proud to get with the Bell Family for another video..
Shane is a great operat0r. very nice hard working couple .Molly your a great operator.I operated lots of forklifts Mostly masonry I started out with an old standard clutch massey that was hard . After awhile just get used to it Awesome video .
Looks like being a farmer requires one to be a Jack of All Trades and improvisation in addition to throwing seeds into the ground and harvesting!!! Oh, and even potatoes have a survival instinct as humans and animals. Very enlightening for the non-farmers who put groceries into our super markets!!!
Just a couple of hints on Tapcon installation. The screws only require an 1" to inch 1-1/4" penetration into the substrate. Tapcon has an installation tool that allows you to use the same drill to drill the holes and install the screws without changing from the drill bit to the socket. 3/16" bit for 1/4" screws, 5/32" bit for 3/16" screws. The hole should be drilled 1/4" to 1/2" deeper than screw penetration to insure that the screws don't bottom out. Really enjoy your content, keep it up.
Topcon are great screws. The make several sizes. The problem you're having maybe with screw lengths. The insulation is 2x inches and 2 3/4 length the problem. I am guessing since i am just looking at it. A second drill would speed things up. Good luck, love watching the show
Molly you are a super farmer's wife . Could make a house builder happy too. I would advise using a 1/2 in corded hammer drill for that sheet hanging.I've never broken one of those tapcon screws.Ramset would have been nice but you'd have to get the right sized power shot.
@@BellsFarming Had to be something Molly .hole was either too shallow or not big enough. those screws don't need alot of friction. Those drills have so much torque .
It’s been an awesome journey watching you guys. I love your videos and I appreciate you taking the time to show us what all goes into your work there. You guys bust your tail every day, that’s for sure. Thank you for sharing!
Strap those walls then put your foam on . srew into the wood .You must be using tap cons, they are good, I love watching Molly work with power tools .Power tools and elevation . O K?
I didn't realize harvested potatoes went into storage. How long are they stored? Here in eastern Washington, there are lots of fruit orchards and some of this year's harvest will go into "controlled atmosphere" storage and be sold next season. "Buy Washington Apples!!" Thanks for the video.
Awesome how loading the tool bet was like a scene from an action film where the “hero” carries more weapons than a squad in real life and still runs! Can you imagine going through TSA with that on? Guessing the “I’m a farmer and literally no time for BS” excuse wouldn’t work. Molly Rambo. Would you rather have an indoctrinated Air Marshal enforcing narratives on the airplane you’re on or Molly with a tool belt, a hammer drill and sack of TapCons?
Good morning Molly and Shane, Have you ever wondered how much soil you lose from your fields every year? All of the soil that you wash off the potatoes and everything you sweep up is coming out of your fields and then there’s also wind and flood erosion too.
Never enough time in a day to get things done for the next project lol do hope that you are ready for the fun time now you both be safe and work easy just want to ask if the farm store is still open ???? Molly an Shane have a great day later ....Stephen an Pat
Tapcons can break for a few reasons, mostly operator error. If your home is too shallow, the tapcon bottoms out and can break. The most common reason is over tightening. When you snug it up, stop! That extra little bit of tightening can easily snap the screw. But concrete nails aren't a very good substitute.
You should be using structural adhesive to hold those foam panels to the wall not screws and washers. They will not hold with the weight of moving potatoes against them.
Yeah whatever adhesive we used did not hold up last time. But most of these panels are actually held up by clear packing tape. As they started to loosen I started taping the seams, it worked alright in the first bin lol. This will work for now.
When using tapcons you have to be sure the hole is drilled deep enough or if not the screw will reach the bottom of the hole and strip out the hole and not hold
A lot of day to day work to make the place run for every change in the season. Much off it of the lift and tote type. The daily grind to keep the place going. Glad to see you using safety gear when needed. You are so popular now that we get ads every few minutes in your videos. I hope that it also means more money for you.
As always, I love your videos. I have one question. Why don't you have a log for each field to be able to pull behind the disc, instead of moving the same log from field to field? Thanks. Keep up the great work!
I may be wrong, but when I use my hammer drill it sounds like an angry bee buzzing loudly. I did not hear that from your hammer drill, it sounded like you did not have the hammer engaged. Great video as usual.
Tapcons are great but after drilling the hole it is recommended to blow the dust out of the hole. This greatly reduces the likelihood of breaking the screw when installing.
@@BellsFarming Ah ok, I usually buy the tapcon bit that the package of screws calls for and I use a squeeze bulb to blow out the concrete dust. I learned the hard way after breaking a couple of screws that were drilled deep enough and still broke.
Hey Molly and Shane, I hope that you were unaffected by Hurricane Helene. I know last year you had some pretty bad flooding from a storm. Hope y’all are OK.
What are you looking for a yield? We usually like 400-450 bags per acre. I know down in your area you have a longer growing season then here in the county

Either way, either one of those would have been faster then what you were trying to do! we enjoy watching the farming since I get 2 different perspectives from you and one out in Nebraska we watch as well!
Question Molly: The cost of French fries are ridiculous at fast food joints so I quit buying them. Are you guys reaping any of the benefits from the high costs?

Yeah the bits I was using are not the right ones for those tapcons.
Hi Molly, use a longer drill bit and vacuum or blow out the dust when using tapcons. Thats usually why the tapcon breaks.
My bit was too short! Yes

Hello from Brunswick, Maine. US October 10, 2024.
Hey neighbor 👋
As always, I love your videos. I have one question. Why don't you have a log for each field to be able to pull behind the disc, instead of moving the same log from field to field? Thanks. Keep up the great work!
This log works the best. It’s kinda a challenge to get the right log. :)
use a good glue caulk
Yeah need to try a different one. The last adhesive we used did not hold up, also was probably the application.
so those culverts act to flow air into the bottom of the potato pile to prevent over heating?
