Miss this sweet, shy, man. met him in '69 in Macon & followed ABB & GA ever since. There will never be another one like him. Devon is very close. Melissa was written in '67. Ride high Midnight Rider! Love you forever!
My neighbor across the street is named Jessica and I called and remembered as Melissa because it was a pretty Allman Bros. tune . I was shocked when she said , "But my name is Jessica".
Sad day everyone,....Gregg passed away today Saturday May 27/17. He was "one cool dude" and The Allman Brothers Band was equal to Zep or the Stones in their southern rock genre. Rest in Peace Brother........................
Went to the Big House in Macon this past summer. It was very interesting. So much "stuff" to look at and admire. The original art work of the band is breathtaking. As you come in, the incredibly large painting in front of you is memesmerizing. All of the furniture is original even though they only stayed there a couple of years back around 1970. TREAT YOURSELF!
Me too - for reasons I may not have totally known then it just came to me as the name for my 4th and last daughter. She has come to be, at 9 years of age, like what the song means to me. I read that the song was his brother Duanes favorite song.
My Dad's friend Dave was on tour with him and they were great friends, he was telling me that him and Jackson brown were so broke in L.A. at the time that he sold sweet Melissa for 100$ and later had to buy it back from the guy he sold it to and the record company. And he had to pay thousands just to get the rights back. But the guy he sold it to had to get writing credits even though he didn't write anything on it. It's crazy hearing alot about Greg and Dave's adventures during the 70s
I really love how the Allman Brothers were inclusive and believed everyone should be equal. I remember reading about that incident in Alabama where they wouldn't let Jaimoe into the diner, and how angry they band got about that.
She's only interested in his "iconic hair" couldn't they have found someone else to conduct this interview, say, a person with musical history or knowledge, who could have at least ask some intelligent questions? Poor Mr. Allman, he has better things to do than sit through a dull, uninteresting interview.
One of the most soulful voices that I have ever heard. And I just heard his version of "When a man loves a woman". His singing will always resonate deeply for me and he is on my list of great, soulful singers. And there's a humility there and lots and lots of heart. LOngmay you sing!
It's not the same without Dickey Betts in my opinion; he had a very melodic conception and, importantly, the taste to know what to leave out. This guitarist allows his playing to descend into a generic blues/rock ballad solo resembling any number of guitarists
DEBBIE CLANTON Yikes, you are blessed woman, I’m green with envy. I’ve loved him my whole life, since I was a teenager at least. I was lucky enough to see them live, but never lucky enough to be up close and personal with that beautiful man. I have lived life out loud for sure and am absolutely blessed . Now that I’m 65, I sure enjoy looking back on some of those wild memories. What a memory you must have to look back on with him.
Its the song man. Not his performance. This song means so much to so many people and your opinion of a single performance means nothing. Find something else to piss on. I'm sure you have the credentials to diss one of the members of the best rock blues to ever exist. Get a life.
It has nothing to do with age. It has to do with being education on the allman brothers. Someone her age, or younger could do a well thought out interview, if they knew something about what the person they were interviewing. Probably also has to do with just being a good interviewer, which this lady doesn't seem to be.
I agree with these comments, she is terrible, stupid questions and comments-this is Gregg Allman for heavens sake. "Long hair in the 60's being radical? Are you kidding me!
This is one of the better interviews I’ve seen. Most don’t know how to interview musicians and artists. We have 3 female family members named Melissa...
I couldn't have said it better myself!!! This interview was painful to watch- because of her! You could tell he was like, REALLY, that's all you can think to ask me about is my hair??? And when she says it's, "beautiful", it was apparent that at this point, he was just fishing for any response to keep the interview going...Totally botched on the interviewer's part...
Seriously, roz marie. She shoulda done her homework... she's waaay too young to interview the likes of Mr. Allman. She made him extremely uncomfortable. If she'd have bothered to know better, she wouldn't have asked such inane questions. Why not ask what people REALLY want to know, like what it was like to grow up with Duane, Mama A, Daytona Beach, what kind of car he drives, where he lives, what are his dogs' names, was Duane really as reckless as has been written, etc., etc.
I love the intro of the flute nice addition; would have been really beautiful if another flute was added to play in unison like they did (which I think is the best version of Mellissa) when Gregg,,Dickie, Betts, Warren and Woody were together and played this so Beautifully. Could have had some better guitar players to back Gregg up, Bass was kinda sad, loved the way Allen Woody played it. And of course Dickie, and Warren's guitar duo. Hope someone comes up with a sound THIS good again, but I doubt it. Glad I lived in this period. :)

Gregg does seem a little bit uncomfortable, but he seems like such a nice dude. Even though her questions were sort of weird, he still had a sense of humor and was nice about it.
I like Gregg much better on keyboards than on guitar. Many also dont know that Duane Allman was a studio musician and played backup guitar for soul singers like Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin and others.
Nicest sounding acoustic and fill in electric unbelievable sound. Those cords are not acoustic are wicked for somebody to come up with chords like that and a sound of an acoustic. It’s so sweet gut wrenching.
I feel the interviewer wasn't schooled well on music. This is a master musician - he deserved at least his equal in the music industry to ask the right questions. A disservice to him and his fans. However, he was such a gentleman.
She did fine. If Gregg could answer with any crispness or completeness, she could have moved on to more meaningful stuff. He never gets a complete thought out in interviews. If you had three hours, you might get to something. I love Gregg, but he is a lousy interview.
Ease up...She's also interviewing for people who may have only a vague notion or no idea who he is. Besides, his hair was/is iconic and relevant to the GA persona. Also, GA doesn't like the term Southern Rock although he's been associated with it - I think he said it's too contrived of a label. If he was a Yankee would it be Northern Rock?
I was a kid in Daytona Beach & heard music playing..I rode my bicycle to find which house it was coming from Duane hit me with a pine cone & I threw it back & hit him..It scared me to death LOL. I said I'm sorry I didn't really mean to hit you...He grinned & said I ment to hit you kid & walked back in the house... When I told them I was from Nashville Tn they kind of took me under there wing.. Even Mama A was cool....And what a blessing.& the road goes on forever.. God bless them..RIP Mama A & brothers. 🍄🍑
Miss this sweet, shy, man. met him in '69 in Macon & followed ABB & GA ever since. There will never be another one like him. Devon is very close. Melissa was written in '67. Ride high Midnight Rider! Love you forever!
He casually strolled into my guitar shop in Fla. around when this was recorded. I still have the 8x10 glossy head shot he signed for me. RIP Gregg.
This song always brings a tear to my eye. RIP Gregg Allman!!
Amazing that Gregg wrote Melissa when he was 17 years old. Remarkable talent.
Gregg wrote Melissa in 1967 when he was 20 years old ❤
I used to pretend he was singing to me...
That's just sweet!
He is
He was.
My neighbor across the street is named Jessica and I called and remembered as Melissa because it was a pretty Allman Bros. tune . I was shocked when she said , "But my name is Jessica".
He was! 😊
What a great time to have lived....such exceptional music. RIP Gregg!
So happy I was there to experience the best years of music ever made, and behind the scenes on some of those groups.
🤘🏼✌️🍑🍄❤️
Heard gregg say in an interview years ago that his brother duane said this was the best song gregg ever wrote.
One of the best songs ever
This beautiful and haunting song was one of my favorites in a musical era that was filled with so many songs of great soul. Much love to all
Still tough to believe he's gone. What an amazing musician!

1i1feat Indeed....Very sad....RIP Greg
Just read his book,
My cross to bear...
Amazing life, Amazing career..
Rest in peace Gregg...
😢😢😢😢😢😢😢
I bought and read it. It's a great book.
I named my daughter after this song . . .
I did too.
She just turned 20

As well I did too but my Melissa don’t under stand it she says I still on the cross road and being a gypsy I will all way run !
Lovely.
R.I.P. Gregg. Still cannot believe you are no longer with us. Continued peaceful rest. 🙏 ❤️
He's free & his soul flys❤
SO PRETTY GLAD HE STOOD THE TEST OF OUR TIME GOD BE WITH HIM ROLL ON GREG !!!
Kudos to this guy Scott Sharrard playing the guitar solo...he's off the chart.
Scott's guitar playing is off the charts!!
I love the man and his music!
i don't think it matters who the band that he sings with, its he's voice that matters
My Dad's friend Dave was on tour with him and they were great friends, he was telling me that him and Jackson brown were so broke in L.A. at the time that he sold sweet Melissa for 100$ and later had to buy it back from the guy he sold it to and the record company. Best rendition of Melissa yet. So great to drown in. I could enjoy it even more without the interview. Greg, such a humble man.
I love this song!!
There are only 2 genres of music:
1. Allman Brothers!
2. everything else….
I'm heading to the BIG HOUSE next week. I'm so excited :-)
I'll bet you are, my son is right behind you.
he is so exited too, leaving his kids behind.
I really love how the Allman Brothers were inclusive and believed everyone should be equal. I remember reading about that incident in Alabama where they wouldn't let Jaimoe into the diner, and how angry they band got about that.
I fell in love with him at 14.....i'm now 63 and still feel the same.
She's only interested in his "iconic hair" couldn't they have found someone else to conduct this interview, say, a person with musical history or knowledge, who could have at least ask some intelligent questions? Poor Mr. Allman, he has better things to do than sit through a dull, uninteresting interview.
Awesome song and awesome musician......but what a sycophantic interviewer....
One of my all time favorite songs!!!!
Wow. A ledgend ❤
Saw Allman bros in 89. Ny. Long island. What a guy

Dreadtower pretty sure Duane played the lead guitar parts on this song
always beautiful.....
I love you Gregg. You and your band were an inspiration to so many....
I have been Blessed told spend some time with Gregg kiss his cheek an hug his neck ..He is unlike any other ..
DEBBIE CLANTON Yikes, you are blessed woman, I’m green with envy. I’ve loved him my whole life, since I was a teenager at least. My mom named me for this... then changed it. Sigh.
Elesa is a pretty, cool , unique name. Good story and connection to this song : )
Its the song man. Not his performance. This song means so much to so many people and your opinion of a single performance means nothing. Find something else to piss on. I'm sure you have the credentials to diss one of the members of the best rock blues to ever exist. Get a life.

I shook his hand backstage. He had the softest hands. He was very polite.
Cool, .....thanks for watching.
I agree with these comments, she is terrible, stupid questions and comments-this is Gregg Allman for heavens sake. "Long hair in the 60's being radical? Are you kidding me!
Pitiful interviewer...a day in the big house? hair? we had many long hair in the South....... tell us about the music!
This is a good version
This song would have been right at home on Gregg's solo album Laid Back-1973. Melissa is pure musical beauty!!!!!!
@voxofaor I don't think she knew what to ask him.... "Your iconic hair!!!" really!!
This is one of the better interviews I’ve seen. Most don’t know how to interview musicians and artists. We have 3 female family members named Melissa...
True Legend.🙏RIP G.A.
For Real THIS MAN PUT THE JELLY in the JAM!!! Watch Him multi Talented Dude Picking Keyboard 12 string He Knows!!!!

roz marie The Kathy Lee & Regis interview was the same "Oh your hair giggle" They had no idea who was sitting before them - very sad!
They did get to Greg, but not his music. When the whole story has really been told. Q

@conway2000 Scott Sharrard on guitar.
Sorry to see GA playing in a shoe box w those guys
Obviously, she wasn't a follower of his. If he's upstairs, Heaven is blessed.

I absolutely love this dong. Thank you for this beautiful song. ♥️
Don’t care for the bass players groove it’s throwing off the feel for me!lovely song, I’m a sucker for the all man band originals!
Not the same without Warren Hanyes on 🎸.
Warren is great but remember this was written long before warren...
@@BilnBax Sure, aware of that, but he played that guitar piece the best. Look up farm aid (Melissa)with Greg/Warren/Dave Mathews.
@@leosalas41ify
I hear ya' man...Warren is one slick dude. cheers!!
Check out Warren on this one ua-cam.com/video/-UHHc7POovg/v-deo.html

Gregg does seem a little bit uncomfortable, but he seems like such a nice dude. Even though her questions were sort of weird, he still had a sense of humor and was nice about it.
16 YEARS SOBER GREAT STORY MY BABY BROTHER NEEDS TO HEAR THIS STORY LOVE YA FOR WORKING IT !!
I like Gregg much better on keyboards than on guitar. Many also dont know that Duane Allman was a studio musician and played backup guitar for soul singers like Wilson Pickett, Aretha Franklin and others.
love this song
Great rendition, but the guitarist needs to tone it down. Was too loud and seemed out of place with the rest of the instruments.
TOO MUCH Flute. MORE GREGG🙏🎉And Band
Nicest sounding acoustic and fill in electric unbelievable sound. Those cords are not acoustic are wicked for somebody to come up with chords like that and a sound of an acoustic. It’s so sweet gut wrenching.
The WORST interview EVER.
. . . to be missed forever . . . you will ride forever, Midnight Rider ~ love ya always
@voxofaor
Of course, can you think of more stupid/useless questions?
I feel the interviewer wasn't schooled well on music. This is a master musician - he deserved at least his equal in the music industry to ask the right questions. A disservice to him and his fans. However, he was such a gentleman.
Thought I was his number one. And l was going to marry him some day
Mm not sure about the flutey bit..........:-(
great guitar solo
GREAT INTERVIEW, SECOND TIME I HAVE SEEN IT!¡
Rock n roll heaven.

I named my Daughter after this song she says she don’t un stand it ! I still on the crossroads !

😂
@TheGrambear he does look like a younger Doyle!!
