- The Porsche Taycan EV has ripped up the rule book on road, now it wants to dominate everything else as well...
This is the Porsche Taycan Cross Turismo, the most complete fast estate available today. And perhaps the best electric car, too. To celebrate Porsche slapping a big boot, some body cladding, and a "Gravel" mode on the Taycan, we took it rallying. As you do…
You can read all about it in the latest issue of Top Gear Magazine, on sale now. But if you want the full, in-depth review of the second step in Porsche’s electric strategy, let Top Gear Magazine’s Ollie Marriage be your guide…

Let's be honest
We all love to watch things that we don't have
And on roads that we will never use. No road test from Guildford to Newbury on a Monday morning!
That was that strange feeling I couldn’t put the words on. Thanks 😊
Like I'm a petrol head and don't like EVs at all but I must emit this is a proper interesting ev and I would consider one if I had the money
( I so thought someone would write like my friend s wife )
Yes, but we also don't want all we don't have.
As a family man, 751bhp is crucial in order to overtake other family car on school roads or to maintain 80kph in normal road.
The wife won’t be mad when I spend all our savings on this thing, because it’s a rally family car!!
can i ask you quastion??
@@sadlife3429 nice quastion
I strongly suggest that you consult your attorney and are wearing a working body camera when you break this to her because, as they say in North America, "Things could go South!"
@@sadlife3429 where is the quastion?
I'd trade my wife for that sweet wagon in a heartbeat.
751 HP family cross over. Absolutely necessary.
That's barely crossover, I wish they went a little further. A higher roof line, more ground clearance, etc.
I hope they make a Cayanne based EV with proper off road ability.
@@Sheridantank they are doing it in 2022
@@ander3059
I hope they keep some of they styling of the Taycan and Panamera and add it to the Cayanne look. Personally I enjoy driving gravel roads enthusiastically to on road and I think the EV Cayanne will do great at it.
@@Sheridantank the only thing i know the gauges are going to be a screen because of a leak i saw
Haha reminded me of Jorge Masvidal. Super necessary
What I love about Taycan is that it's a Porsche that happens to be electric, not an EV that Porsche sells.
I love that it's an EV, too, but yes!
Other than the compromised touring (until rapid chargers are a little easier to find) this is just a really exciting car in its own right, not just for EV-novelty.
No tesla fanboi here yet.....
@@davel7037 you can still be a Tesla fan and love the taycan.
I have driven 350 000km of Tesla in the last 5,5 years... love the cars but they have their flaws.. extremly price-worthy imo.
But the Taycan is next level in most areas but there is still some drawbacks... The only car that I would trade my Tesla Model 3 Performance for is a taycan, especially cross turismo. The things holding me back are price, software and charging network.
Exactly
@@huzygaming7216 Let's face it, the only thing holding you back is the price, the rest is fanboy garbage talk...
11:29 You can really see how much power it has in that shot. Looks surreal to see it take off like that on gravel
I was thinking the same thing, Porsche did a great job with this
That's insane.
A 4 wheel burnout on gravel?? Mental
It really looks surreal.
Almost defies belief, how graceful and effortless it looks doing all of this. Porsche forcing jaws to the floor yet again.

That’s a great way to test how weatherproof the car is! Man what a beautiful machine! Those wheels look insane!
When he pulled away at the end on the gravel, that is the best depiction of how rapid the thing must be. That's when you realise how instant the torque is on these cars.
The 'entry level' model is plenty punchy enough for most mortals.

I have never seen this presenter before. Absolutely excellent job thank you ! Hope to see more of you doing reviews
Awesome! Definitely my favorite EV!
Great video, would be excellent seeing one of these in touring cars or world rally
Sensational video. Thank you Ollie!!
i would rather be homeless driving on gravel with this,

You could be like you are now, but riding a gravel bicycle on gravel. It's a f** ton of fun. And costs you around 200++, depending how much you wanna spend
Live in the boot! It’s massive 😮😊

that was the early stages of electric cars, they have improved exponentially quite rapidly.
At this time there was no exiting Electric Car, that now has changed.
Welcome to Electric Car Age!
It looks so fun to drive and travel in...Electric cars are very quick, comfy and they have a minimalistic vibe.
This is my first TG experience with Ollie hosting and you nailed it. What a great host, content and car.
I appreciate your input in entirety. Your comment about the bit of stitching that didn't follow the curve of the dash. The effortlessness of the charging door opening while covered in dirt. Your specificity about the dynamics of the car in all it's driving modes while showcasing them, at pace, through the landscape as intended.
This is my dream car and you coincidentally have my desired interior and exterior spec.
Bravo
I saw this car covered in muck on the M4 a couple of weeks ago, want one.
Love the WRC9 menu music lol
Bloody hell you’re ballsy driving that quick on gravel in that. Nice review.
11:28 just what I'd need to see to decide. The best EV so far imo.
This is finally the ride that Alton Towers needs! I’d stay on that all day….
Really nice like a shooting brake version.
Fabulous video! 11:31... Wow!
And this shot blew away 11:29.... Amazing!!! That's when you realise how quick these cars' torque is.... However, crossover of the 751 HP family. It is really essential.
bad news: family I have sold the house
good news: I have bought a new estate
Rally mode in a remote area a good and fun, then you realize you have to return, go to a charging station oh oh.... range anxiety lol. Taycan Crosstrack awesome 🏁🏎🙋👍
Kind of like oh no, Oh No, song then the in the middle of nowhere, while rally crossing through, a dead zone like I was in last weekend for 3 hours. No cell network, no GPS signal, 2 Petrol Fuel Stations in 200 mile apart and no battery charging stations in between. Oh yeah also no radio for 3 hours, of any kind. Oh No, Oh No, Oh No No No no

@@ChasingDifferentAdventures in which outpost do you live. I live in Belgium and that's the size you mentionned.
So any house hould or industry ( with a plug 😱)
@@bluebikerathar I live in Los Angeles California USA 🇺🇸, there's actually a area in the Pacific Coast Highway 1 coastline. It is the most beautiful drive you can imagine you could stop 20 times to photograph/ videos 📹. There's only 3 Petrol ⛽ stations, and only 2 work. No charging stations from San Louis Obispo in Southern California to Monterey California. It's all winding Canyon Roads, with 3 hours of no Radio stations not even FM. There's no internet service your has no internet or GPS either it is a dead zone. So if you use internet radio 📻 it won't work so take MP3 music USB drive. That said this place I went to 3 weeks ago called McWay Falls I have videos uploaded in my channel of this place. It had been blocked of 2 to 5 miles south of it and 6 miles north of this location. By erosion and if you're caught up on the road closure the return is 250 miles to nearest charging stations. Do you understand, and can't disturb any property owners either. So no internet your Taycan in the USA there's 1 super charger per County a 100 miles from each other. None have the 160 kwh super charge, and I think the max we have is 150 kwh Tesla's super charge is 130 kwh. Taycan on regular house charge a 110 volt outlet takes 16 hours to charge for 36 mile drive
8:28 you can see the rear steering, it´s amazing.
Love how you jump it at 4:47 😂
Taycans are starting to be common sightings in Los Angeles now. Still haven't seena Cross Turismo yet, but I'm sure the moms will be showing up in the school circles any day now.

I was in love with this vehicle since they announced it. Amazing looking, practical and plenty of power.
That is one good looking “suv”
Imagine being the porsche dealership that loaned him the car.. May as well give it a respray right after 😂
there`s something really cool when you see an expensive car driven like that on gravel 😀
Makes me think a 911 "Carrera 4X" would be a good model to release.
4WD, fancy lifting suspension with the same gravel mode as this, appropriate underbody protection. It would be a hoot.
this looks really cool. Best looking car since the Jag xjs for me!!
Kia will come with a 576bhp version of their electric EV6 for less than £50k next year. Less power than this sure but also a hell of a lot more affordable... 0-62 in 3.5 seconds
Loved the vid!!! Perfect car for NZ roads ,just needs double the range
Something definitely happened @ 7:40. That transition was waaay too abrupt

It's interesting that Porsche created the best EV you could possibly make with current technology and they did it first try. It's like landing your first ever backflip. That doesn't happen.
Not true although it is a good car but for current technology Rimac seems to be better. There is also Nio, Lucid Air and obviously roadster 2
@@anirudhhhh but can you buy any of these?
@@arekb5951 obviously not but they do exist. I mentioned them because your comment was on Porsche Tycan being the best possible EV from current technology. It does not state they should be in production.
Only time will tell if Porsche did well on their first try because Battery pack degradation can occur very fast if the pack is not managed correctly or you draw lot of current from it. Tesla has more data and experience in this respect.
@@anirudhhhh fair enough, I did not state that, but don't get me wrong, you're giving examples of "better" cars that exist mostly in single digit numbers and later speak about long term battery management and experience of a brand in making EVs. Porsche is a part of VAG group and while Porsche did their own thing with proper battery cooling for track use or 2 speed gearbox (both are very beneficial for the user and both should be implemented in high performance EVs), battery management shouldn't be a problem because Audi and VW sold a lot EVs before Taycan and these brands often shared technology with each other in the past, so I don't see why this should be a concern. Also, making a car this good and still profitable in mass production (even considering Taycan's price) is a whole different animal.
@@arekb5951 It's my personal opinion that managing battery degradation is difficult in EVs
To pull a lot of current from battery pack to go fast is easy. Determining the limits and managing the battery pack for longevity is difficult
Like for example when Nissan came out with Leaf although the car was good the battery packs degraded very quickly. Taycan is a really good offering from Germany but time will tell how the battery ages. It matters because the battery pack is the most important and expensive component of a EV.
Awesome review😎
Great video. Great presentation. Great production. Great car.
9:12 Boy, you guys really had to reach far to find a fault in this car...lol.
I’m sorry but how could you not have Chris Harris do this one

Really cool, but I'd still much rather have an E63 wagon...
id rather have an standard taycan
fuck the e63 you might as well buy a rs2
And... the electric clitoris charging port entry still stimulates and turns on when it’s caked with mud! Passionate Porsche attention to detail and functionality at its finest.

Astonishing. If I tried that in my model 3 I’d need a respray at the very least.
best EV on the market - until tomorrow - awesome car and review! I could see myself leasing it now...
They fit those massive brakes so they can still have your pants down when at the service centre, its about the only thing they can fleece you for and the only serviceable item whilst its on PCP terms anyway.
How to turn a wagon into a trendy mommy crossover? Just don't paint those wheel arches. Even the presenter was fooled.
I love how the last journalist slid it around them tarmac bends. Dead right as a beginner to take your time ⏲️
It's bizarre how far we have come as humans to make something this phenomenal!
Man: Here's the trunk (the boot) and look at the space its ok but a bit smaller than its rivals......

Those wheels are a great design. They convey ruggedness, while still being elegant, with a lightweight edge, and are appropriate both for off roading and casino show-offing. Perfect complement for the Cross Turismo.
The wheels look dope! Really attractive.
Super cool what it can do, but for me the sound is half the driving experience. I think they should start working on aggressive sound design for fast electric cars. Not just little Jetsons whirring sounds, but full on whooshing and roaring. User selectable, load dependent, slip reactive.. etc. It should convey useful information to the driver (as engine sounds do today).
Surely Porsche was thrilled to see how you thoroughly tested this pearl of a car :)
Wow. Lovely looking thing, awesome stats, apart from ahem, range.
Even in 'range mode' you wouldn't get from London to Paris and that's at 60 with AC off. Nice way to travel.
To your chalet in the Alps or Villa in Tuscany? How many charges en route ?
By the time you're there you'd have enough time to grab an espresso or hot chocolate and then you'd be heading back to the UK to make sure you squeezed your round trip into just a week....
So this 'family' car might have some use as long as you're only looking to drive from London to your cottage in the Cotswolds.
Great video,,,
fabulous drone footage in this video! Where are these roads located? Wales? Scotland?
Just needs some proper front fog / driving lights , then almost perfect 👍🏻
If they all have the same size battery, does that mean the lower models get a much better range as they’re less powerful???
