  • In this video, I'll show you how to load a Mamiya RB67 film back. This is the standard 6x7 magazine. If you have another Mamiya Rb67 film back, just tag along and try to follow my instructions.
    If you have a Mamiya 645 or a Hasselblad 500 series medium format camera, this video can also be helpful for you!
    As always, I highly appreciate your feedback and support and if you have any questions, leave them down in the comments below!
    That's it for now, have fun and go shoot some film ;)

    Last week I was given an RB67 and I haven't used a film camera for over 30 years. Many, many thanks for this video. You have saved me from making some costly errors!

      Hello Gryphon, thanks for your kind words. This is literally what I do it for. I had to everything myself so I though I might as well share it in a compact, understandable way 🙂
      Have a good day!

    I had a question about the red dot near the film advance lever? What does it do?

      Hi Cameron, thank you for your comment! To my knowledge, the red dot needs to be visible in order to be able to take a photo!

    When I get to the end of the roll and I continue to crank after 10, it gets stuck. I tried moving the little tab under the count window, rotating the back, flipping the multiple exposure lever, removing and reinserting the dark slide, and a combination of all these things. I ended up opening up the film back in a dark room just to be safe. Has happened twice consecutively. The roll was wrapped properly both times but from what you show in the video, and as I have experienced before, the film advance lever should crank with very little resistance after the film has completely moved to the take up spool. Any idea what is going on? I only found one mention of this on forums and no one provided an answer that I didn’t try above.

      Hi Daniel,
      thanks for your comment! Unfortunately I have never heard of this problem before. It sounds like you might want to send the back to a repair person and ask them for some insight? That's what I always try to do when I have no more options left.
      All the best and good luck,

    Thanks for the explanation of how to load the film because I didn-t know that you aligned the arrow on the film with the arrow on the bottom a the film magazine. On the middle of the top cover, on the back part there is a lever that can be moved to the left and returns to the right again by itself...What is it for.

      I believe you are referring to the film "wind stop lever". The manual states.. "When the film advance lever is continuously wound, with the film wind-stop release lever (42) pushed to the left, the film can be reeled up completely to its end, even though picture taking is still in progress and a film remains unexposed."
      Just an easy way to advance to the end of the film if you don't want to expose anymore frames. Probably used a lot more when film was dirt cheap.. lol 😂
      Hope this helps :) @@valentinsfotoparadies8708

      This is copied from a flickr thread.
      There is a little lever on the back of the film back (just above the place where you'd stick some card to remind you what film is inside) it usually has a little arrow pointing to the left.
      This is called the "film wind-stop release lever" in the manual. just flick that to the left and the red dot will disappear from the top and you'll be able to wind it.

      @@cloudedfilms I don't think so. You can always take multiple exposures with the RB67...

    • @playerjohn0

      Red dot means multi-exposure, if the red dot is appearing means you can take multiple shots at the same photo and multi-expose the shot. If the red-dot is covered and your camera has no defects on that mechanism the camera wont allow you to take the 2 exposure on the part of the film. Its a way of saving photographers from double exposing by mistake.

    hello valentins! while loading my last film of 120, i accidentally missed the horizontal arrow and kept loading until i started to see the horizontal arrows on the backing paper. is it possible that this caused the roll to come back completely empty after i sent it to the lab? thanks.

    • @valentinsfotoparadies8708
      @valentinsfotoparadies8708  11 місяців тому

      Hi there, could you explain in a little more detail how far you loaded the film? Normally, I do not think that loading the film incorrectly by a bit would result in a completely blank roll. What would probably happen is that your last one or two frames might not be fully exposed... but I am not 100% sure...

    Do you have to insert the dark slide every time you advance the film ?

  • @merryharry6487
    @merryharry6487 Рік тому +1

    So you dont rewind the film you just crank it and make a new roll?

    • @valentinsfotoparadies8708
      @valentinsfotoparadies8708  Рік тому

      Exactly! You just use the lever over and over again, until the resistance becomes much smaller (you can also listen for the sound of the paper slipping). Then you can open the back and take out the film.

    • @valentinsfotoparadies8708
      @valentinsfotoparadies8708  11 місяців тому +1

      @@antonikx_ I have no idea why that's happening. I also have a back that does not show the red dot once I take a picture. For my back it only happens in "landscape" mode. What I do then is, I rotate the back to "portrait" and then set the shutter speed to 1/400 and close the aperture fully. Ideally, I put the lens cap on and take a "blank shot". Usually this will bring the red dot back and let me advance the film. Maybe I should get the back serviced, now that I am thinking about it haha.
      All the best,
      V
