i feel like what you might be looking for is them making "stylized" sonic toy collections? they're obviously not gonna make awkward sonic toys on purpose but at least they'd stand out from the "model accurate" toys
I would love a line that replicated different Sonic designs of different games like the Sonic Adventure or Sonic 06 designs made into real figures. That would never happen, but it'd honestly be really cool.
I know what you mean about them being "too perfect." The unique molds the older companies used gave the figures their own style, but now there's no variety with the molds anymore. They all just look the same.
@@rankrodent2772 is it because there isn't much of a variety in terms of the figures themselves or that they all look similar? I don't know about you, but I simply want cleaner looking figures that is faithful too the CURRENT style of the games nowadays
I feel like another thing that would make the jakks line better is releasing the characters in more box packs. For example since Omega is very hard to find and Rouge will probably be as well, how about relasing a Team Dark 3 pack like they did with Mecha and classic Eggman. Not only does it make the purchase feel more grand but also easer to get the characters that are harder to find. Plus characters that might not sell as well could be released in these packs like put Cream and Big in a team rose pack or Ray in a Mighty, Ray and classic Sonic pack.
How about releasing more Sonic characters besides the core cast like Sonic Boom’s Lyric, 06’s Mephiles or Satan’s Ixis Naugus? It gets boring seeing the same put out over and over with very few surprises in the mixes that lines like Transformers would normally do in their collector-orientated lines besides doing the same legendary seven characters several times.
@@rayvenkman2087 would love to see those characters but I can't see Sega allowing any of them besides Mephiles. Although I would absolutely love to a Nagus figure or even see him in a game.
@@greensoda123 They’d make for visually interesting characters on the toy isles if Sega allows it and they’ll have to give eventually. I mean, Transformers didn’t do too many toys of comic created characters until the early 2010’s where Hasbro/Takara began really dipping their toes in that with Generations Drift and been making more since.
I really wish they just calmed down on the size of the pupils for the Adventure line, the proportions were fine otherwise. But yeah agreed completely, the jakks stuff are just the game models ripped right off the screen, and we have been sick of those for years now.

Jazwares released some pretty cool figures when they had the IP. It helps that when they were involved in the franchise they could have unique character redesigns as game tie-ins like the free riders toys, the black knight toys and they even released a pack with shadow and doom's eye. I remember wanting sonic toys all the time when I was younger and ended up missing out on a lot of the toys they made. I do foundly remember getting their toys and plushies around the unleashed and 20th anniversary eras. The werehog figure was suprisingly heavy, and covered in pointy plastics. It felt like a weapon.
You’re not the only one who missed out on them. I used to have a tails free riders figure but I think I broke the leg by accident. I still look to this day for Jazwares sonic figures and I can’t find them anywhere. They’re too expensive. Was it because they were popular? There’s no way they’re rare, a lot were produced from 2009-2014. It’s just like GameCube games. Companies stopped producing, demand got higher, then the next thing you know it’s over $100 for one figure/game. This really sucks 😔
As someone who dips their toes into toy collecting, this video hits pretty close to home. Also so true about the kids and toys things, Ive seen TMNT and transformers fans even say this where most buyers are the nostalgic adults who collect toys. So far ive seen tmnt somewhat do the solution you mentioned where there's a toy line for adult collectors that are focused on rereleasing old 80s characters, i think its by super7
They are a little more expensive, but yeah. Super 7 has an open pre-order for their TMNT Ultimate lines. Which is way nicer than hunting random Targets or fighting bots online.

@@maximillianlylat1589 Eh. Yes and no. I love the Neca movie stuff and Super 7 for different reasons and I think that's why they can co exist. The Ultimates are high quality versions of the toys I grew up with, while Neca goes for screen accuracy. And having both options just makes it awesome to be a TMNT collector. Hopefully Sonic gets that treatment.
If there ever was a more collector focused line of Sonic action figures, I hope they're ones that are more along the lines of 1/12 scale like what the 4 inch Jakks line has. As cool as the Classic and Modern collectors figures are, they're so big that they don't mesh well with any other character on my figure self, and the 2.5 inch line is just too tiny for my preferred scale of action figures. Jazwares were nice and some phenominal articulation, but they always felt way too tiny. Idk, I just really want a line of Sonic figures that I can pose next to my other action figures like Megaman X, Spidey and others without them feeling like they're the wrong size compared to everyone else. I can't be the only one that's super picky about their action figure scale like this, right?
It’s funny you mentioning the rare Rouge the Bat figure from Sonic X, awhile ago while browsing Ebay I spotted an original Sonic X Rouge plushie that was around $300+ It’s pretty fascinating looking at all the rare Sonic merch there is and the ridiculous prices attached to it. Also on subject while I’m not big on collecting toys or figures anymore I hope the toy-line gets a lot more diversity with the characters, since that’s one of the biggest appeals to the Sonic series imo.
You have hit the nail on the head dude! This is why we mainly collect the obscure or rare 90s/early 2000s stuff. There's nothing wrong with the current products, but they are lacking in style and scope and don't really feel like collectors pieces. I'm glad you've opened the door for this dialogue. It's definitely something we've wanted to discuss but feared how people would react!
Honestly, Hasbro has definitely got the right idea with it's collectors lines. I think Sonic the Hedgehog has the same sort of fanbase that could be easily separated into some sort of normal and "Generations"(pun intended) line.
Transformers does exactly what you're suggesting, they have the transformers for kids based on whatever cartoon's on at the moment, and they also have the generations line, which are higher quality while still being affordable
I love the Jakks line because it's the first time official sonic figures are widely available at my country, it's nice to see figures at the super market
The Jazwares line is super nostalgic to me. One of my friends back in middle school used to have a Sonic and Silver figure, and he brought them to school to show me. Also I used to watch Sonic Stop Motion Adventures all the time.
It's been a long time since I've come across a UA-cam video so niche and yet so particularly catered to my interests. As a child it was hard to get a hold of many Sonic toys, I'm pretty sure I've got the 5 inch Werehog and Sonic w/ Caliburn from their respective game pre-orders but they were the only 5 inch figures from Jazwares I ever saw. It wasn't until much later that I decided to spend the money to pay scalper prices for the Blaze the Cat comic two-pack and the Chaotix triple set. Super stoked about the upcoming Rouge figure, I could never track down the one from the Sonic X line so it's kinda exciting for a toy collector and Sonic fan to finally get a figure of Rouge the Bat.
I used to be really into collecting action figures and stuff when I was younger. At one point I grew out of it, (which I’m happy for, because it can be an extremely expensive hobby.) Watching this video took me back to when I was like 12. I wasn’t expecting Mark to make me weirdly nostalgic for action figure collecting, but here we are.
I'm not much of a toy collector but I do understand your frustrations somewhat. I also never knew how lacking we were in things like female Sonic characters. Like seriously, one Cream toy? How dare they!
Articulation is possibly the thing I want the most from a figure, and it seems like since that 2008 run (that also tended to be structurally weak) we haven't really gotten something like that.
I'm kinda hooked on the 4" Sonic line of figures. I wish they at least had elbow joints, but they're still perfect. I can't wait for them to roll out more characters. And if they're making Omega I hope they roll back and do Gamma. Wishful thinking,but they made Mecha Sonic and he's one of my favorite of the figures
My biggest problem with Jakks is the quality control. I’ve gotten two classic Sonics with arms that immediately broke off. Same thing happened when I got 2 waluigi figures, both had left feet that were about to break, with the first one breaking.
When I was a kid I had the bendy figures and remember the metal in the figures breaking through the rubber and stabbing my thumbs when I tried to play with them. The other Sonic toys I had where these really cool big ones that talked. I had one of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles but I remember the tails in Tails where really cheap and broke off.
I’m really surprised that there’s no collector oriented line, because Hasbro has been doing that for forever. For example, there’s the Marvel Legends six inch line with more details and articulation. While, at the same time, there’s the basic line that’s four inches with less detail and articulation. It’s very simple, which is why I’m so surprised at the lack of such
i know this is probably nostalgia speaking but i think jazwares had the best sonic toys. the designs looked like they were ripped straight out the game, they had the most articulation, and the variety was insane. i still remember buying the generations 3 inch figures from toys r us as a kid and even then i thought they were perfect
I am a rookie Sonic Figure collector. I Collected Tomy Sonic figures, I currently have a Classic Sonic and Modern Knuckles that are not on the best condition. My Tomy Classic sonic has a broken nose, my modern knuckles has a damaged arm. I ALSO have all 4 inch Jakks classic figures (Mighty, Sonic, Eggman, and Mecha Sonic). As I also have 8 modern jakks figures. (4 inch Knuckles and Sonic. 2.5 inch Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, Tails, Eggman, Metal Sonic, and Silver.) Also 3 Tomy Sonic Boom characters (Space Knuckles, Knuckles, and Green Eggman)
I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been a series of Sonic figures specifically for adult collectors. With the cult following it's acquired over the years, you'd think they'd realize that adults are actually a huge part of their fanbase and have more disposable income than literal children. Even My Little Pony had a Fan Series line, and continues to license out the brand for higher quality adult-aimed collectables.
I've had this on my concience for a while now, and considering the topic, I feel this is where I should confess my sins. My only Sonic figure (😔) is a tiny little Chao, and its one of the kinda figures you'll find a lot on the bottom rack at the checkout lanes of Walmart. I found them underneath the display, ripped out of their packaging. Knowing it would be thrown away if it were found by an employee, I hid it away in my pocket and left with him. I need consulting, is my action justified, or am I a filthy thief?
I have so much nostalgia for the Jazwares line of sonic toys I really liked how you could move most parts of the body so you could get almost any pose and they also worked really well with stop motion videos shoutout to all the sonic stop motion youtubers
as someone who collects sonic merch, i make sure the characters i buy are characters i dont already have im so hyped for the prime and movie 2 toys because I really like them, the studiopolis playset is dope and the sonic movie 1 playset with the old design is absolute treasure another bit i like about jakks is the figure coming with an item from the game, building a playset with that would be my dream as a kid, using actual springs and 10 count rings great video btw! im still hunting for a resaurus figure
I have a similar problem with Legend of Zelda figures. The closest to perfection are the Figma Twilight Princess Link and Zelda. We have yet to receive a proper Ganondorf figure since the 90’s Ocarina of Time line
Mark's honestly been sounding EXTREMELY SIMILAR to Brian Griffin specifically after his Family Guy video. I don't know if this is because of the fact that the Brian Griffin dog from Family Guy inspired him so much, or if it's because of the genuine post-family guy depression he has.
Imagine being lil kid that just want to have 1 figure of his fav character, and he can't because collectors needs to buy like 10 copy of it... :C (no hate of course)
As a 12 year old who's always late to everything he sees/hears/etc I can relate because I just saw a Crash Bandicoot action figure that I never knew existed and guess what? couldn't find a single darn one! :(
My main complaint is that whenever I try to look for these figures, they’re either triple the price online or are just the same sonic figure with a different accessory I don’t want. Jacks should just increase the production on these figures so they can stay in stock so they can work on new characters
I'm collector of mostly Star Wars, and comic book figures, and I really know nothing about Sonic. However, I loved getting a window into the world of another collector and seeing the love and frustrations. We all do have our frustrations, I can tell you that for sure. Great video!
I feel like Tomy's figures were able to look accurate while also having their own sense of uniqueness. Also, Tomy made a ton of Sonic stuff before having the master license, such as those fragile figurines you mentioned before, and actually still make Sonic stuff, via their Club Mocchi Mocchi line of plushes.
Great vid! I mainly collect Marvel Legends figures that both combines great looking figures, deep articulation, huge cast of characters and accessories so for me personally Jakks is doing fine with their line but I want some Sonic figures that can have the same effort and care as they have. The main example I want Jakks or any other company with the Sonic toy rights is to emulate what Bandai did with the SH figuarts Pac-Man figure.
Great video, I agree with you 100% I would love to see a Company that works on figures for the collectors,The possibilities are endless and there are so many sonic characters that still to this day don't have any figures any let alone merchandise
I used to have all of the jazwares 3 inchers (along with a metric fuck ton of other memorabilia, mostly comics) and I even got a custom figure made of an old oc I had by trading an extra classic super sonic I had. I ended up giving it all away to goodwill the summer before I went to high school bc I was so embarrassed by my love of sonic. Seeing now how rare and expensive all of my old toys are makes me so upset, they were some of my favorite things I owned
I find it funny & a bit telling that everything you've pointed out with Jakks' handling of this line, also applies to their World of Nintendo (might as well be World of Mario at this point tho) line.
Yeah, it kinda stinks when the toy section of a store is just 1 famous character repeated over and over again. (Looking at you, M A R I O !) I understand they wa.. they NEED those famous characters to start up the line. It be like making a sandwich without bread (or wafers in ice cream's case)!

When you said that Jakks figures are too close to the original is the same for me, this is why I love Lego figures and some products by Funko that make there figures look like the characters but having a style that makes them look like a toy... you know... what I want to buy!

i want model kits that let you build large scale models of Metal Sonic, Omega, Orbot, Cubot and a whole host of Eggman machines - that would be dope. im honestly suprised Goodsmile hasnt stepped in to make figmas of Sonic characters yet - all we got was the Nendoroid Sonic.
Good point, we don't really have any action figure line aimed for collectors, company that does stuff like GEE but for action figures would be pretty cool, maybe with more articulation, the price would be higher but hopefully not something like F4F. Obscure characters would have a chance to...exist in a figure form like Tikal, Chaos, Omega etc.
If there's any company out there that would be great for Sonic figures it's Super 7. They have a Ultimates line that's more targeted for collectors by having different series of highly possible and high quality figures at fair prices of around 50 or 55 dollars. They're doing the Simpsons right now and they look great. So a Sonic series of Ultimates would fit perfectly especially since they oddly prefer doing obscure or lesser known characters.
The only reason I am ok with them remaking the same characters sometimes is if you couldn't get the older ones. But you are right, they focus on the main cast too much.
I am with you that i want more collector inclined sonic figures, something more midrange than the first 4 figures. Something like a SH figuarts/Figma of the characters would be a godsend

As much as I love the Jakks' figures and have collected as many as I can come across (having been quite lucky at regular stores finding some of the more hard to track down figures), my problem with them isn't that they're perfect. My problem is I cannot bend their elbows. For me, this restricts certain poses that I would like to be able to do with these characters. As strange as some of the joints can look for Sonic characters, I do believe that they add something to the figures, but that could be that I prefer being able to give them different poses moreso than the average person.

As a child it was hard to get a hold of many Sonic toys, I'm pretty sure I've got the 5 inch Werehog and Sonic w/ Caliburn from their respective game pre-orders but they were the only 5 inch figures from Jazwares I ever saw. It wasn't until much later that I decided to spend the money to pay scalper prices for the Blaze the Cat comic two-pack and the Chaotix triple set. Super stoked about the upcoming Rouge figure, I could never track down the one from the Sonic X line so it's kinda exciting for a toy collector and Sonic fan to finally get a figure of Rouge the Bat.
I used to be really into collecting action figures and stuff when I was younger. At one point I grew out of it, (which I’m happy for, because it can be an extremely expensive hobby.) Watching this video took me back to when I was like 12. I wasn’t expecting Mark to make me weirdly nostalgic for action figure collecting, but here we are.

Articulation is possibly the thing I want the most from a figure, and it seems like since that 2008 run (that also tended to be structurally weak) we haven't really gotten something like that.
I'm kinda hooked on the 4" Sonic line of figures. I wish they at least had elbow joints, but they're still perfect. I can't wait for them to roll out more characters. And if they're making Omega I hope they roll back and do Gamma. Wishful thinking,but they made Mecha Sonic and he's one of my favorite of the figures

My biggest problem with Jakks is the quality control. I’ve gotten two classic Sonics with arms that immediately broke off. Same thing happened when I got 2 waluigi figures, both had left feet that were about to break, with the first one breaking.
When i buy Jakks Metal Sonic's, the head came with some marks as if the plastic had been burned...

When I was a kid I had the bendy figures and remember the metal in the figures breaking through the rubber and stabbing my thumbs when I tried to play with them.
The other Sonic toys I had where these really cool big ones that talked. I had one of Sonic, Tails, and Knuckles but I remember the tails in Tails where really cheap and broke off.
As a poor person who buys video games, I dont care about the toys.

I’m really surprised that there’s no collector oriented line, because Hasbro has been doing that for forever. For example, there’s the Marvel Legends six inch line with more details and articulation. While, at the same time, there’s the basic line that’s four inches with less detail and articulation. It’s very simple, which is why I’m so surprised at the lack of such
i know this is probably nostalgia speaking but i think jazwares had the best sonic toys. the designs looked like they were ripped straight out the game, they had the most articulation, and the variety was insane. i still remember buying the generations 3 inch figures from toys r us as a kid and even then i thought they were perfect
I am a rookie Sonic Figure collector. I Collected Tomy Sonic figures, I currently have a Classic Sonic and Modern Knuckles that are not on the best condition. My Tomy Classic sonic has a broken nose, my modern knuckles has a damaged arm. I ALSO have all 4 inch Jakks classic figures (Mighty, Sonic, Eggman, and Mecha Sonic). As I also have 8 modern jakks figures. (4 inch Knuckles and Sonic. 2.5 inch Sonic, Knuckles, Shadow, Tails, Eggman, Metal Sonic, and Silver.) Also 3 Tomy Sonic Boom characters (Space Knuckles, Knuckles, and Green Eggman)
I'm honestly surprised there hasn't been a series of Sonic figures specifically for adult collectors. With the cult following it's acquired over the years, you'd think they'd realize that adults are actually a huge part of their fanbase and have more disposable income than literal children. Even My Little Pony had a Fan Series line, and continues to license out the brand for higher quality adult-aimed collectables.

I've had this on my concience for a while now, and considering the topic, I feel this is where I should confess my sins.
My only Sonic figure (😔) is a tiny little Chao, and its one of the kinda figures you'll find a lot on the bottom rack at the checkout lanes of Walmart. I found them underneath the display, ripped out of their packaging. Knowing it would be thrown away if it were found by an employee, I hid it away in my pocket and left with him. I need consulting, is my action justified, or am I a filthy thief?

I have so much nostalgia for the Jazwares line of sonic toys I really liked how you could move most parts of the body so you could get almost any pose and they also worked really well with stop motion videos shoutout to all the sonic stop motion youtubers
as someone who collects sonic merch, i make sure the characters i buy are characters i dont already have
im so hyped for the prime and movie 2 toys because I really like them, the studiopolis playset is dope and the sonic movie 1 playset with the old design is absolute treasure
another bit i like about jakks is the figure coming with an item from the game, building a playset with that would be my dream as a kid, using actual springs and 10 count rings

I have a similar problem with Legend of Zelda figures. The closest to perfection are the Figma Twilight Princess Link and Zelda. We have yet to receive a proper Ganondorf figure since the 90’s Ocarina of Time line

My main complaint is that whenever I try to look for these figures, they’re either triple the price online or are just the same sonic figure with a different accessory I don’t want. Jacks should just increase the production on these figures so they can stay in stock so they can work on new characters

I'm collector of mostly Star Wars, and comic book figures, and I really know nothing about Sonic. However, I loved getting a window into the world of another collector and seeing the love and frustrations. We all do have our frustrations, I can tell you that for sure. Great video!

I feel like Tomy's figures were able to look accurate while also having their own sense of uniqueness. Also, Tomy made a ton of Sonic stuff before having the master license, such as those fragile figurines you mentioned before, and actually still make Sonic stuff, via their Club Mocchi Mocchi line of plushes.

I mainly collect Marvel Legends figures that both combines great looking figures, deep articulation, huge cast of characters and accessories so for me personally Jakks is doing fine with their line but I want some Sonic figures that can have the same effort and care as they have. The main example I want Jakks or any other company with the Sonic toy rights is to emulate what Bandai did with the SH figuarts Pac-Man figure.
The 2 inch I think is a perfect for more smaller characters, to fit more with the 4 inch stuff

I used to have all of the jazwares 3 inchers (along with a metric fuck ton of other memorabilia, mostly comics) and I even got a custom figure made of an old oc I had by trading an extra classic super sonic I had. I ended up giving it all away to goodwill the summer before I went to high school bc I was so embarrassed by my love of sonic. Seeing now how rare and expensive all of my old toys are makes me so upset, they were some of my favorite things I owned

Good point, we don't really have any action figure line aimed for collectors, company that does stuff like GEE but for action figures would be pretty cool, maybe with more articulation, the price would be higher but hopefully not something like F4F. Obscure characters would have a chance to...exist in a figure form like Tikal, Chaos, Omega etc.

If there's any company out there that would be great for Sonic figures it's Super 7. They have a Ultimates line that's more targeted for collectors by having different series of highly possible and high quality figures at fair prices of around 50 or 55 dollars. They're doing the Simpsons right now and they look great. So a Sonic series of Ultimates would fit perfectly especially since they oddly prefer doing obscure or lesser known characters.

The only reason I am ok with them remaking the same characters sometimes is if you couldn't get the older ones. But you are right, they focus on the main cast too much.

I (try to) make a living selling Sonic toys on facebook, it's insane how the value of certain toys skyrockets after a couple of years. Recently sold a Sticks the Badger for £130
As much as I love the Jakks' figures and have collected as many as I can come across (having been quite lucky at regular stores finding some of the more hard to track down figures), my problem with them isn't that they're perfect. My problem is I cannot bend their elbows. For me, this restricts certain poses that I would like to be able to do with these characters. As strange as some of the joints can look for Sonic characters, I do believe that they add something to the figures, but that could be that I prefer being able to give them different poses moreso than the average person.
