      Spot on. I think that’s the description of all masters. We can learn the language, the feel, how to emote, how to listen, how to react, how to swing, and how to build but to be able to do that all consistently at the highest level takes talent and hard work.

      first listen was 1 week ago, yesterday i started humming parts and now i have re-listened about 6 times. this song is going to be like holdsworth to me, don't quite understand at first but when it hits you, you will never grow tired of it.

    I can’t hold back, I must write this out. I almost cried. They obviously are both unbelievably gifted, although Shai Maestro shocked me on a whole new level. I’m speechless.

      Pinny Ostreicher this is truly one of the absolute greatest recordings of a jazz ballad in all of history, and I doubt anyone could change my mind. It competes with the best of the best, such as the miles Davis recording of 'it never crossed my mind.'

      @@cjgreen4331 did you like it? I find it's somewhat of a personal thing, but there's just some people who get it and some who don't, and that's okay. This performance immediately went in at least my top 3 of all time when I heard it, but other friends of mine that listen to jazz didn't even like it.

But this didnt strike me in any way, it really felt more like a piece to study harmonically or a piece of art than the music I usually love, even with Chris Potter on it

    So much intimacy between the piano and saxophone as a duo, you can hear both instruments connect with one another like a marriage. Unbelievable playing from two fine musicians, i would love to see an album with Shai Maestro and Chris Potter one day, i think it would be amazing.

    my god when they go back to the head at the end it’s just like they visited all the harmonic lands in the vast infinite musical universe and now they are back home! It’s a sort of a release that just pulls you back to familiarity. Fucking absolutely brilliant and powerful performance by these two! ❤️

      and the way Shai just stomps on those whole note chords just is so critical after the varying rhythmic choices made by both! after all of the beautiful chaos they’ve created they now arrive back to familiar grounds. It’s just so powerful when they go back into the head like that.

    Great stuff. Also love the way Chris stayed in the vibe at the very end and didn't feel the need to do a 30 minute cadenza to finish. Beautiful stuff.

    Everyone is talking about Potters playing... and although I am a sax guy and love everything he does, in this instance I was more taken by the unique piano playing. Very well done! I only my piano guys could play like that!!! Just WOW

It's not gutter-level commentary, it's a compliment, and those familiar with the history of jazz musician vernacular will understand that.

      @@stuart8663 A trio gig outside LA in the 90's, having trouble syncing with the bassist and drummer. Couldn't find the pocket, one of those nights that makes you doubt yourself. Afterwards I said to the bass man " Homes, I sound like shit. Can't play anything that works. I should just quit, like permanently " He said " Just a bad night. Drummer's rushing overplaying too loud..Don't sweat it. Mark you're a motherfucker". Exactly the comforting words I needed to hear.
