    Hey Luke, I always find your commentary and thoughtful observations first rate. You have a deep respect for this hobby and the companies that produce quality products. I’m sure most “civilians” (i.e., non-astro blokes) can’t imagine the love affair we have with our equipment. As for me, accumulating various upgrades to my kit is serious business, which in turn provides serious satisfaction. Do enjoy your new filter wheel mate.😊

    Still here. It’s been the worst winter ever here in Northern California. Epic snow and rain. Snowing where it never snows. 2 solid months of no imaging. So reprocessing old data and finding videos to watch. But 18 of my metal prints will be at a art gallery all summer. A tip for anyone wanting to print your beautiful astrophotography work . Calibrate you monitor with a good calibration tool . Before I did that only frustration after I bought and used the spider x pro , not a plug just what I used and 150$ us , my metal prints came out nice. Like the wow factor. So if your prints come out to dark now you know why. Oh and save them in the rgb format in Pixinsight.

    Hi Luke,
    Yep, I watched the whole video. I am chomping on the bit to get the Player One Poseidon-M Pro (IMX571). That filter wheel would be a great addition to it. I've been noticing an abundance of winter weather in your corner of the world lately. It's been somewhat decent here but the clear skies came with the full moon .. ugh! Nice to see more options out there although it's a shame there's no saving buying one brand over the other as both brands are the same price (excluding short term on sale events). It is good that the electronics are hidden away from potential damage when the filterwheel is open. As for the USB C debate, I still kind of prefer USB A purely from the fact that I find USB C slots can be not as snug fitting as USB A and slight movements of the USB C cable on my laptops has led to disconnections which can be infuriating. Hope you make a speedy recovery from your illness and hopefully the skies are clear again soon.

    Hi Luke. Hall effects have never failed me in the past but optics have. So winner, if i was buying. Don't know if you know already, losing screws can be saved. I use a neodim magnet (what ever their called) on the outside of a steel tin for holding screws. Slide the magnet off when you want to take them back out. Even put the same type magnet attached to the screw driver or alan key being used, so as not to drop the screw. Narrow rc silicone fuel tube. Small length on your Alan Key (longest shaft) give you a better grip. Hope thats of help ! Nice clear explained video as per. Its the small equipment that gets missed on unboxing videos. Hope you can keep up the good work. Clear sky's to you.

    Luke,
    This was interesting and helpful. I just received a Player-One Poseidon-M with the 7x36 Phoenix filter wheel. The kit also came with the off-axis guider (OAG) and a Ceres-M guide camera. I have spent this afternoon preparing to put my Antlia 3nm NB filters into the FW and get the camera attached. I am not going to use the OAG or guide camera at this time.
    Although you have the 1.25 inch FW, it was helpful to see you open it up and show it off next to the ZWO.
    Well, I'm looking forward to seeing how this new setup works.

    I put mine on the mount yesterday. It was -5C. The Phoenix filter wheel froze up and wouldn't run. Took it inside and warmed it, and it runs fine. I've repeated this test several times and the same outcome every time. It seizes up in even mild cold. Have you experienced a similar issue? I imagine in the UK you don't get as cold as we do here in Canada, though.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  7 місяців тому +1

      Hey there mate! So sorry to hear that happened, I've had this happen with other filter wheels in the past and it's solved by slightly loosening the center axle bolt - only a tiny bit, but they do sometimes come too tight for areas that get sub-zero temps 👍
      Hope that helps you!

  • @paulholdsworth2502

    Certainly no need to apologise for making a video out of a filter wheel exchange. Making videos out of the smallest of things is a well worn path by plenty of other astro you tubers. I for one always find yours a really good watch irrespective of the depth of the content. The product does look extremely robust and its good to see you building a good relationship with player one. I think if you can get your hands on a long focal length scope for galaxy season especially with the mount you have would be great. Anyway Luke I enjoyed the video 👍

    Hey Luke, glad to see someone using the Player One equipment. I just bought the Poseidon-M Pro with the 2" filter wheel and OAG. I love their design, but it feels like there is a concerted effort to blackball Player One at least from the US market. Any idea on why that is?

    • @Astro_Shed
      @Astro_Shed Рік тому

      Because they are waayyyyyyyy overpriced compared to more well known brands, being a new player in the market, you would think that would try and undercut the others, but no, they charge way more, and wonder why they are not selling so well, and this new FW is a copy of the well known QHY models…they really need to drop there prices and get established….before hiking the prices….but there kit does look good….

      @@Astro_Shed Their pricing is about middle of the pac on IMX571 cameras. Not the cheapest and not the most expensive. Honestly you can't beat the Touptek ATR3 platform when it comes to price and availability. Touptek rebrand the ATR3 into countless other brands like TS-Optics, Orion, Risingcam, OGMA, and more. It looks like PlayerOne is trying to compete head to head with QHY and ZWO and is priced accordingly. However the kit that PlayerOne offers is a much better deal than the same kits or combos with the other two. On top of being $400 less, you get an OAG with a much bigger prism and an EFW with an improve drive motor. Not sure if using a magnetic encoder is better than an optical encoder. That might just be marketing.

    Hi Luke. Another chilled video as usual. There does seem to be quite a few people moving away from ZWO (myself included). I was just curious what the Player One EFW has over the ZWO one? I've just been on the Player One website and they seem reasonably priced. I replaced my 8x1.25'' ZWO EFW with a Starlight Xpress 36mm unmounted wheel because you can swap the carousel to accommodate any other filter size for under £40, which is a huge advantage.

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  Рік тому +1

      Thanks so much for watching Rick mate! :-)
      I reckon the main advantage of the player one FW would be the hall effect sensor which should have high accuracy and 100% repeatability on positioning over millions of actuations with no reliance on an optical sensor, but a disadvantage would be that there's no multi-filter options (like 1.25 & 31mm both fitting in the same zwo wheel)
      I really like the swappable carousel on the SX models, that really is some fantastic design on their part! :-)
      Clear skies buddy!

Although if i quit drinking i could maybe get a used DSLR for like 120 quid! Hi Luke
    Please forgive my ignorance at this stage as I am new to UA-cam.
    I am not even sure if I have posted this on the correct page?
    I have just taken early retirement (63) and have decided to do something I have always wanted to, do but could not, because of work commitments over the last 40 years.
    Just purchased a really good set up, Refractor WO FLT91, ASI 2600MM, Filter wheel and Focuser and Skywatcher Mount.
    I have watched some of your videos and they are fabulous, a good way for me to get into the hobby.
    I have just set up a Channel membership with you but have been told It is better to be a Patreon?
    Which is better?
    Can I apologize to everyone reading this as I may be posting this in the wrong place?
    Thanks
    Keith Dutton

      It sounds like you've got a wonderful rig there to enjoy the skies with, that's superb - and congratulations on your retirement by the way! Many happy nights lay ahead I'm sure!
      Re: best method of support, people generally say Patreon is more generous with the creator than UA-cam is, but honestly either is a huge help! Thanks again!!
      Hope you have a great week ahead,
      All the best

    I have the zwo 1'25" 5 holes one, for such a long time, and I'm thinking to improve to a 7 holes one, but keep my doubt if move to 2" filter wheel or stay with 1'25" thinking to get on future a dso player one camera to change my ASI1600 to an Asc-p sensor, don't think will do full frame.
    You recon is better to go for the 2" filter wheel, bearing on mind all becomes more expensive, or is not really need as far as your sensor is full covered by the filter?

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  2 місяці тому +1

      I'd say if you want to use aps/c in the future then you'll need at least 36mm filters, if going full frame at any point you will need 2" filters :-)
      To me, it'd be worth it as I know with a 2" set I'd not need to replace filters for a very long time, but it all depends on what you feel will suit you best 👍
      Clear skies!

    What is your experience with the phenix filter wheel ? This summer I will get me the Uranus C pro and Ares C pro. And was thinking of adding the 5 x 2” filter wheel.
    For now I have L-pro L-enhance UV/IR and moon filter. But later on I will get me the Askar D1 & D2 and replace the L-enhance so I can create a real SHO image.

      I really like it a lot, reliable, well sealed and totally precise! A filter drawer system and a few drawers would probably be more cost effective, but a lot more messing around compared to loading your filters into a wheel and that's it!
      Cheers :-)

    Thanks for the video. It helped me to install the filters. Now, how do I connect the filter wheel to ASCOM? Player-One driver seems to be in a zip file with no installer. Where do I put the files in the zip directory tree? And how do I get ASCOM to see the filter wheel?

    • @lukomatico
      @lukomatico  5 місяців тому +1

      Hey mate! If I recall correctly it's just a case of extracting the drivers and running the installer afterwards, at least that's all I can remember!

    I’ve been considering purchasing this filter wheel (I have the Artemis m pro). How does the accuracy of this filter wheel compare to the ZWO EFW? Do you have to retake flat frames each time you rotate the wheel or does it reliably hit the same position each time? Thank you!

      Hey there Nathan! I find the accuracy to be perfect, totally repeatable time after time 👍
