Great review (though it isn't restricted). Having reviewed this and the CB650r (I realise they differ in target market), which would you go for if you could only have one bike in your garage?
The rest of the world has the horn button on the bottom which makes it closer to your thumb for quick use. The Japanese made a mistake putting the horn above the turn signals, causing confusion until you get use to it. I have to always look down to where the horn is to use it on my Forza which is annoying and delaying sometimes. The placement really should be corrected.
Great review, im riding the vstrom 250 at the moment i have my open license however dont have the experience to even consider wanting a full powered motorcycle. Was considering the vstrom 650 or even dr 650 however as im mostly on roads may consider this new 500x . Would like to keep the weight down below 200 kg as well. Am in Australia but know the difference between inches and metric so showing my age i know. Certainly dont need the biggest bikes to have fun.
What a well thought out nicely made bike. Nice review btw. If I didn't have such a large lump of a GSA in the garage I'd be tempted to add this to it. Grammar police warning... It's "buffeting" lads not "buffering lol! Agree re wheels...would have preferred seeing tubeless spoked wheels for off road use and twin front discs and a rear rack platform to take a pack or topbox.
It’s been a great bike from its inception but so much better now . Better instrumentation ,front suspension , added slipper clutch . Great for mild off road but really shines on the road.
I test road this bike yesterday morning ( along with the 2017 kawasaki vulcan s 650) and MAAAAN....This bike's engine ...feel is SOOOO damn smooth and refined. Keep in mind though, I'm used to a single cylinder 286cc rebel 300 2017. So ANYTHING is an upgrade for me xD Kawi was awesome too though slightly more...."raw" I guess.
I have the 2019 cb500x in white . After 43 years of riding this is my first Honda and I love it .Great go anywhere bike, plenty of torque to potter around in a high gear and loves to rev when you want to get a move on. In fact I was so impressed with this engine I bought a 2019 cbr500r as well. Got two great bikes for what I was going to spend on one.
12:20 It's not 500c engine size, but it's close. It's 471cc. It's the same engine as in the cbr500r and 2017 and newer honda rebel 500...only tuned kind of in between the two ( at least I think it's tune inbetween those two bikes. It's DAMN smooth though..Love test riding it yesterday)
Wow: Great upgrades on the CB500X 2019; i love it; Great Job Honda; i’m really tempted to upgrade my CB500X 2017; Honda: now please create a new version : a CB500X Adventure Sports ((kind of Rally Raid version; small Africa Twin; spokes wheels, inverted front forks, skid plate, hand guards, rear suspension with adjustable remote, engine guards, dual front brake discs, ABS switch on/off...)) & i will buy it to swap my CB500X 2017 for a CB500X Adventure Sports 2020. Or, let’s dream, i would also upgrade for a future new CB650X or for a smaller Africa Twin 700cc (my 2 dream bikes). By the way : CB500X are not only for new riders; i know a lot of experimented riders who ride CB500X (unbeatable value for the money).
I agree with everything u said . Love the lady that discovered this bike for rally raid I think her name is Jenny . I love the 500 X I think I will buy one to put next to my VFR 1200X .
Nice review there, gentlemen. I would love to see you review the new Honda CB650R and its faired brother the CBR650R. Those two really caught my attention and it looks like they're great bikes. So, could please consider reviewing sir?
yep as Mark says, Helite Airvests. The tags on the front are the mechanism that allows it to go off and inflate in the event of an accident as it pulls the ball out (takes a lot of pulling) and sets it off... There is a review on the channel :)
Nice to see you have implored a camera person, you now going for the professional look, 👍🏻 Just need the professional presenters. Once again great review, always a good watch keep it up. Many Thanks 👍🏻
I like your reviews. Can I ask that you include under seat space & total carrying capacity. Its on the swingarm on Honda;s. I have noticed a lot of bikes have quite low permitted carrying weights eg 700/900Tracer's at about 180kg. If shall we say you are "Big Boned " like me and want to carry a passenger, this rules out a lot of machines.
Hi all, first off to all the people who are saying they would swap or buy this if it has this or that or im too short , there is no stopping you because i am a very short rider 5;7 with an inside leg of 30-32 and i can tiptoe this bike. i did;nt like the older model so i waited til they released this 2019 model and love it ,im having Barkbusters put on this week and maybe get the rallyraid spoked wheels, but when i spoke with rallyraid they have to make a new version of the front wheel because of the hub. Now a question if anyone knows because rallyraid told me it could NOT be done and that is getting more power they said you cannot de-restrict this bike so i would love to know if it can be because IF it can this bike would then be THE ONLY bike you would need. So if anyone knows that you CAN DE-RESTRICT this model please let me know thanks ride safe SCOOBS.
With a 32 inch inseam you shouldn’t be tiptoe but flat footed , if your 30 or below than maybe yes. But i also believe that the seat on the newer model is also a bit narrower in the middle to help the rider reach more for the ground.
The CB500 range's engine is a peach, smooth, torquey and flexible. Had the previous X version as a courtesy bike - never seen so much crud and spray off the road on visor and helmet. The F is cheaper, more fun and handles better, and at least the wind is clean air, not turbulent and directed straight into your face like the X.
Those bikes many people will put a skid plate on that protects the oil filter and bottom from rocks and things off road. Better off not coming with a skid plate from the factory anyway..they are always junk and people replace them.
Nice, bike only gribe I have with Honda is the hourrendus mirrors, on my cb125r they are a nightmare..... Please Honda change ya mirrors on all ya bikes.. Woosh
At least on the mirrors of the cb500x, they are decent ( meaning don't shake much at 60mph to 70mph speeds) UNLIKE the stock pos's on my rebel 300. :*(. I was in a hurry to get on two wheels with an engine..Yes I know I should have gotten a 471cc bike :P
I like the mirrors .they look much better than my Strom mirrors that r like barn doors but don’t work nearly as good . I think looking at video they r the same as on my VFR1200X DCT and I really like them for the price I paid anyway . If I had spent Ducati or BMW $$$ maybe I would have wanted more. Thanks good day to u all
Chris Hart agreed but then it wouldn’t be the same price. I’m not likely to take it off road so the wheels are ideal and much easier to clean. The front suspension has some adjustment but I think it’s a good setup to start with anyway. There’s always the Rally Raid suspension if really needed.
@@Planet_Wax the rally raid stuff is amazing. Better suspension and longer travel, and those wire wheels really look the part. But it does come at a price. And on the older one if you just stick the 19" wheel in it's guaranteed to hit the radiator so the suspension upgrade is a must. At least the stuff is available though. I do wonder if one of the big 4 will offer a 500cc twin with wire wheels and usd forks. Maybe like a Yamaha T5. A2 licence friendly. I think a kawasaki 400x must come at some point.
Is it big enough for a large man? And I mean in terms of room and comfortable riding position, not power and top speed. 6-3 and 300 lbs large i'm talking about.
im guessing it would cope ok yeah, but have a try on one first as you might find you want something a little more powerful, although the comfort and fun is all contained in this little beast :)
If you are not in a hurry to get from Hamburg to Munchen on the German Autobahn 50HP is enough pleasure for most riders. (OK48) It has enough ‘oomph’ to let you feel you’re alive and handles like it has only 125 kg.
RiderCamTV, I appreciate your content, but PLEASE.....please. start recording and uploading 60fps. 30fps on motion-based content like motocycle reviews/road tests is ..well...just weakens the feeling of it all. 60fps man. It's 2019.
A pleasant commentary but oh so lacking in important detail. For many of us things like the tank capacity and range are basic requirements and knowing that it is a full power bike made the constant comments to it being restricted cringeworthy. As a road tester you should be aware of why the 2019 model has been fitted with a 19 inch front wheel and the way that the screen has some adjustment. Little things but if you want your viewers to take you seriously do a bit of preparation so you sound as though you have some knowledge about what you are talking about.

I,m in Dublin Ireland. The laws just change so, so, much here.
Great review as ever.... If I change from my CB300r then it will be for a CB500X. I tried the 500f in 2016 which I really enjoyed but for around town filtering etc I just needed something light and the 300 doe's me fine. Perfect all rounder the X. I will reach out before . Thanks so much for all the effort u guys do putting these videos up .
I agree love the wheels consider the off readability of the bike .
Hey Mark, thank you so much for the kind words, they really do mean a lot to us both as we love making the videos and of course riding the bikes :)
Hope the hospital stay goes well :)
RiderCamTV yes got home a week Tuesday. Now making plans for next year I think I’ll b in stride in a month or 2 . Hope u guys will b doing Norway next summer
Mark Lloyd if things stay the same Mark will be guiding the Norway trip next year.
RiderCamTV thrilling. I can’t wait. U guys take care .
A nice looking bike. Enjoyed your company. Looking forward to your next posting. I’ve got my GS1200 & ZR750 under covers for about 8 months!!! Had the first of two hand surgeries 🤚, the 2nd in 4 months, so living my motorcycle life vicariously through your vlogs until about December. That countryside you ride in is beautiful. Will have to venture south to Cornwall next time I’m in Blighty. Cheers from downunder. 👍🏍😀
thanks for the kind words Russell. Great to have you along for the ride too :) Hope all goes well with the surgeries :)
Mark truly has a military background. He doesn’t miss anything. A wonderful bike
I couldn’t tell if it was the military background or the superior intellect I was seeing.
Great review (though it isn't restricted). Having reviewed this and the CB650r (I realise they differ in target market), which would you go for if you could only have one bike in your garage?
The rest of the world has the horn button on the bottom which makes it closer to your thumb for quick use. The Japanese made a mistake putting the horn above the turn signals,
causing confusion until you get use to it.
Thanks for the review, thinking of getting one of these. Waiting for Honda to contact me
Great vid guys lovely bike will be getting one when I pass my test also like the hi vis vest where can I get one of them ta
Ronnie Mills the hi-vis is a Helite vest www.airvest.co.uk/
Excellent & positive but objective review, waiting for mine, should arrive in a few weeks!
thanks buddy. You will enjoy it im sure.. ride safe
Great review guys, would love to see what you guys think of the Honda CBR500R if you get a chance
thanks Nathan. hopefully that one will be coming :)
Just ride with us man stay safe nice white color
Another good review chaps. What road tyres would you recommend for this?
Nice review guys. Like the high vis jacket, what brand?
Would love to trade in my 2017 for this one, but it's taller and I'm short. Nice test ride and review, fun and relaxed as usual.
Yes they increased the height up front kind of the way Rally raid did it in the aftermarket kit. Much improved bike tho
I thought the seat height stayed the same even with the changes.
A great choice for a young explorer.
Another great review chaps, thank you. However, you can't fish for indicators, the're out of season, and the wheels look like church windows.
Buffering... darn dyslexic fongurs!
hehehehe, oh the buffering, i mean buffeting..... hehehhhe (sorry coudn't resist) thanks for the kind words, Ride Safe
So ANYTHING is an upgrade for me xD
Kawi was awesome too though slightly more...."raw" I guess.
Motoryzen Good choices to check out as your potential next bike
Jump .the new X is phenomenal. They put so much into this newer version.
I ended up buying the Vulcan S ABS Cafe. I did a lot of online searching and found a brand new 2017 on sale for $5,999 US. I couldn’t pass it up.
excellent stuff, and as you say a great bike :)
Very interesting review & I like those hi viz vests too 👍🏻
12:20 It's not 500c engine size, but it's close.
It's 471cc. It's the same engine as in the cbr500r and 2017 and newer honda rebel 500...only tuned kind of in between the two ( at least I think it's tune inbetween those two bikes. It's DAMN smooth though..Love test riding it yesterday)
The older cb500s was close too 60hp. Too make these just 46hp it actually helped to reduce the cc down to 471cc. It's closer to a cb450x really.
as you say its close to 500cc but whats a number hahahahahhahhaha.....
I love the 500 X I think I will buy one to put next to my VFR 1200X .
it was an amazing bike, i loved riding it...
Pragmatic review, congratulations. If I may ask, how do you compare this motorbike with the NC 750X? Regards
thanks for the kind words.. both are great bikes, but the 750 has a little more power but essentially both amazing machines :)
Nice review thanks. This bike hasn't arrived in America yet.
More like lost at sea!
Nice review there, gentlemen. I would love to see you review the new Honda CB650R and its faired brother the CBR650R. Those two really caught my attention and it looks like they're great bikes. So, could please consider reviewing sir?
thanks for the comments buddy. Hopefully we can review them, we will see what we can do :)
Lovely bike. Great review. Love the area- spent many a year down in Perranporth!
Great review! Greetings from Brazil.
Thanks for sharing the review 👍 nice bike.
Great review - I think I will get one. I wear a bright helmet and gear but what are the life jacket tags on the front? Air vests?
PAUL S yes the are Helite Turtle back vests.
yep as Mark says, Helite Airvests. The tags on the front are the mechanism that allows it to go off and inflate in the event of an accident as it pulls the ball out (takes a lot of pulling) and sets it off... There is a review on the channel :)
Nice to see you have implored a camera person, you now going for the professional look, 👍🏻
Just need the professional presenters.
Once again great review, always a good watch keep it up.
Many Thanks 👍🏻
hehehehehe, thanks for the comments buddy... we grabbed a friend who did a great job :)
Great video, guys. Thank you!
thanks buddy :)
Great review.
Great review, lads!
The F is cheaper, more fun and handles better, and at least the wind is clean air, not turbulent and directed straight into your face like the X.
monck55 same MPG’s on both? Those are some of the many bikes on my list to test.
I hope it has knobbly tires and not wheel😁😁great review by the way all the best
Stock...the 2019 cb500x comes preinstalled with cast wheels and basically 50/50 tires ( not knobby tires).
Good review guys
Those bikes many people will put a skid plate on that protects the oil filter and bottom from rocks and things off road. Better off not coming with a skid plate from the factory anyway..they are always junk and people replace them.
Which one do you prefer? Cb500x or vstrom 650?been thinking about upgrading the bike
Great review!
My first road bike was a Honda Gold Wing here in the States at age 20.
I’m sold!!!😎
its an amazing bike :)
Great vid guys and good fun too thanks....Please tell me where you got your hi-viz gilet please. Cheers !!!!!!!!!
@@motoryzen can anyone recommend any good universal mirrors , again like said. Ones I have on my cb125r just don't cover the areas you. Need..
Thanks good day to u all
Great reviews 👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👍🏻👏👏
thanks buddy
Halfrica Twin!
It is half the power and almost half the price. The conventional forks and cast wheels should go. Then it would fit the target a lot better.
I think a kawasaki 400x must come at some point.
love it!
I had a " lii UUL" spot ah chuckle watching and listening to this. Cheers. :P Ftr though ..I thumbs up it a while back.
Is it big enough for a large man? And I mean in terms of room and comfortable riding position, not power and top speed. 6-3 and 300 lbs large i'm talking about.
I’m 1,8 meter and added a spoiler from givi on the windscreen.
im guessing it would cope ok yeah, but have a try on one first as you might find you want something a little more powerful, although the comfort and fun is all contained in this little beast :)
If you are not in a hurry to get from Hamburg to Munchen on the German Autobahn 50HP is enough pleasure for most riders. (OK48) It has enough ‘oomph’ to let you feel you’re alive and handles like it has only 125 kg.
So what's the actual HP of this cb500x if its unrestricted?...Have watched a couple videos and everyone is talking about restrictions.
Knobbly wheels! That's novel, I've seen knobbly tyres........
How can you de restrict it ? A thought that was the bikes full specs 48 bhp
RiderCamTV, I appreciate your content, but PLEASE.....please. start recording and uploading 60fps. 30fps on motion-based content like motocycle reviews/road tests is ..well...just weakens the feeling of it all. 60fps man. It's 2019.
hey buddy, thanks for the comments, we will work on this
A pleasant commentary but oh so lacking in important detail.
All that and I'm still wondering what the fuel consumption is. My Africa gets about 45 miles per us gallon cruising at 65 mph.
its very good :)
Hi All: Can somebody explain to me about the restricted licences i have been away from bikes for the past 25 years & now have on order this 500x, I hold a provisional A licence, where does this put me with the restriction of the bike/licence?? I,m in Dublin Ireland. The laws just change so, so, much here.
in these days 6k is a budget bike ....
its in someones budget
Funny review, although a little bit tv shopping style...
Great review as ever.... If I change from my CB300r then it will be for a CB500X. I tried the 500f in 2016 which I really enjoyed but for around town filtering etc I just needed something light and the 300 doe's me fine. Perfect all rounder the X.
Would you mind subscribing to my channel Toby and Mark (and whoever else of course)
keep up the good work!
thanks for the kind words buddy. great videos and we see that you also took out the CB500X. What a fab bike :) best of luck with the videos :)
@@RiderCamTV thankyou and while I have you in sorry to advertise on your channel. Looking back that was not my intention. I was a bit blinkered at the time and seemed to think it was a good idea. Won't happen again.
You are great guys, I come down your way quite alot so well give you a wave of I see you. Top chaps!
Great info as I’ve just been to look at this bike. But please attach the mic closer to your mouth as the quiet /load is so annoying
What’s flapping around on the lhs near the fairing? Have you ripped some wiring out ? 😂😂
Oops I see now it’s your mic lead
mic lead :) hahahhahhaah
Where did you get the weight from. Honda give it as 196Kg!
that's 'wet' weight, i.e., incl all fluids
Can this be an everyday ride?
😍👌🏻👍🏻 Subscribed!
Buffering?...Buffering? .....Buffeting.
Why is "HONDA" only supplying a choice of (ONE COLOUR ONLY for AUSTRALIA) Grey and RED for USA that I know about, when HONDA ADVERTISES "RED" or "WHITE" or "GUN METAL GREY" which is a very BORING COLOUR and NOT VERY VISIBLE ON THE ROAD especially for LEARNER RIDERS.
who knows why they make the decision they do. perhaps they will do the BMW trick and release it in another colour next year
Thanks for sharing.
46 bhp restricted to 35 kW? :) 1 kW is like 1.3 bhp soooooooo
yea keeps saying restricted and its not, its a 35kW motorcycle
What's the top speed?
in the UK 70 :) and it did that well
You guys are funny but in a nice way.
HELP! I'm buying the bike this week but I can't choose the colour! 😂
The Red is my favourite: Looks grear .
@@gerryrooney4862 thanks! Yeah I actually am taking red now for sure 😁
Better than the himalayan?
yes
In the US...you can buy a Suzuki Hayabusa when you are 16 with "0" experience...it's called "population control" here in 'Merica! And I live in Utah, one of the MOST conservative states - that does NOT have a helmet law. Things that make you go WTH!? Looking forward to returning to Europe soon...
wow, thats what it was like in the UK until a few years ago....
Buffering.. LMAO
21:22 someone went little Britain wheelchair bloke
hahahahahhahahahaha
buffering ----> buffeting
There is NO "L" in knobby..
hahahaha
Almost all reviews of Hondas include the problem of the horn and indicator switch position.
Come on Honda. I have been riding bikes for more than 40 years and I haven't found such a trivial thing to put me off your whole range of bikes.
Rant over...
for now
