    I hit the like even before I watch the video because I know it's going to be good. Keep in it real, keeping it lo-fi and no look at me I'm a fancy UA-camr. Cheers Side trip Life for your content. Can't wait to get back to Samui as soon as I can escape from Melbourne, OZ.

    So glad you have gone back to Koh Samui. It was a real trip down memory Lane watching your journey back to the island. I remember that airport so well, you are right it does have that tropical vibe. The only other airport that was similar was on the island of Maui, it had those buses open air buses called wiki wiki buses.
    I watch a lot of UA-camrs in Thailand, and quite frankly am getting a bit bored with them all racing around Thailand showing us all the provinces. I feel I have seen them all now, but the most enjoyable ones are always yours with your laid back pace. I am looking forward to spending more time with you on the beaches, it’s the best place to be!

    I stayed at the Mermaid for a few weeks in 2004 - fan rooms were 300bt, they have only gone up 120bt!!! It was a great place, managed by an Englishman called Leigh who passed away not long after. I used to scoot over to KPG to buy cheap bricks of weed and then stay in Samui for a bit. The TVs are the exact same ones they had 18 years ago lol!

    Hello Mr,Sidetriplife. Your movies and recomandations where great,it help me a lot. First i stayed for 3 days in the Grand china hotel in chinatown, than i moved to samui and stayed 2 days on bangrak in the memaid resort was also good. Then i moved to lamai beach and stayed in the marina resort for 5 days and now on this moment i wait for the pick-up with lompraya to phangan. When i arrived on phangan i rent a scooter and go find a nice beach bungalow. Thanks again and have a great day. 😄😄🖐👍

      Wonderful Janus! Personally for me 1 night is good enough in Chinatown but can also use as a base to go explore the riverside, khao san area etc etc. Hope you like Koh Phangan, perhaps my fav island! Enjoy!
      ps> do wear a helmet and pls also look for loose sand on the corners (do not brake on sand, especially front brake). Safe travels!
      Edit to add: Would recommend Benjamin's Huts or Cabana in Sri Thanu for a 1st timer. Great lil beach & village!

      Thanks Dave. Btw, even before Rona, could easily find decent a/c hotels under $30 all over Thailand, good Thai food dishes under $2 and even a modern condo with pool in Bangkok under $400 month. Biggest thing right now is inflation and starting to see it in food prices but Thailand still a relative bargain. Meanwhile, Halifax will be back to warm n beautiful before you know it, hang in there! Cheers eh;)

      Good eyes but the first letter was covered a bit. Actually that's a Boots, a UK chain (formerly Boots the Chemists). It's a Drugstore/Pharmacy like our Shoppers Drug Mart (or London Drugs in the West eh;) Curious if Boots have any Canadian outlets, came across this: "Boots expanded into Canada by purchasing the Tamblyn Drugs chain circa 1978. Most Canadian Boots shops were converted to Pharma Plus in 1989 after sale to Oshawa Group". So, no Boots in Canada and we have London Drugs but none in UK.

    Hi there, for domestic travel as from Bangkok to krabi, do we need RT-PCR test before flying ?

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  2 роки тому

      Hi Mohammad. Flew into Samui so not sure about Krabi Airport. Best check with your airline or call Krabi Airport direct. Suspect for domestic travel they'll at least require you to download and fill out the MorChana health app.

      Hi Xa, they recently changed back to the Sandbox program (stay on Phuket, Samui+Phangan/Tao, Krabi, Phangan areas for 7 days and then free to travel around). For details/requirements, recommend you follow TAT Thailand website for latest as things change and likely will again soon. Yesterday the Health Minister stated the data shows that although cases spiked, hospitalisations and serious outcomes are way down. Thus, they will be looking at easing restrictions once again quote: "The Public Health Ministry will propose easing curbs in light of the diminishing threat" So, would follow latest updates from TAT and Thai Govt sources.

      Great point! The local public songthaews are running more frequently again (Narumon knows but for any wondering the red pick-up's with bench seats in the back). Unfortunately I didn't take them as you point out but will try to remember to get more info on local transport upcoming.

    Tip use thai vietjet when flying domestically they are cheaper than bkk airways

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  2 роки тому +1

      Thx for the tip. Will show a comparison in final vid on return from Surat Thani Airport via Air Asia (approx same cost as VJ). Besides cost, will also factor in time including ferry from Samui and Van from Don Sak to ST Airport. Last, will compare cost + time taking new red line MRT from Don Muang Airport to Sukhumvit vs taxi.

      @@SideTripLife I’m in the early planning stages of my trip. Can I ask you a few more questions? I’ll just list them and hopefully you’ll have time to indulge me:
      Thinking about doing Phuket 3-4 days, then 1 night in KhaoSak then a few nights in Samui then back to BKK. Or just doing the entire time at either Phuket or Samui.
      How do we get from Phuket to KhaoSak then to Samui, is that possible? Would it be too expensive to attack this path?

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  9 місяців тому

      Local Vans will likely be your best bet. Can book at Phuket for Khao Sok & from there to Donsak (Surat Thani Ferry port to Samui). Shouldn't be very spendy. Have a look at Phantip Travel for examples: www.phantiptravel.com/ -I'm off to Indonesia tomorrow so Good noght;)

    How are you travelling on your own? I don't mean safety wise but for company. Do you get lonely or do you Chat to people in bars? Have a Good social life in Bangkok? I ask because I wanna move to Thailand for a year or so. I'm fine on my own and kinda introverted but the thought of moving there and just having no one to meet up with, say, once a week to chat with puts me off. It would Be great if you could give some tips on the practicalities of living in Thailand as well as showing us around.

    • @SideTripLife
      @SideTripLife  2 роки тому +2

      Have travelled with a gal pal in some vids but mostly solo. Rarely feel lonely but it's pretty easy to chat with someone (apart from bars) when travelling. Living here is different though. I do have a few good friends to socialise with in Bangkok and a few around Thailand and that's good enough. Most people you meet here are just passing through and some others you'd avoid both here or back home. There's also apps like MeetUp which have groups from Crypto to Reading, Hiking, Movies, Pub Crawls etc etc. Also noticed on Koh Phangan FB they even have a group called Shyne for shy people to meet (great idea). Anyways, would not recommend 'moving' per say but just come visit for a couple months to see if the lifestyle may suit. Cheers

      @@SideTripLife Thanks for this it's really helpful advice. I've been to Thailand for 3 weeks before and I loved it but I think you're right, living there would be very different from a holiday. A few good friends would be all I'd need but it's meeting people interested in forming those sort of relationships is what I'd be concerned about because, like you say, most people would just be passing through and I know the sort of people you mean to avoid too.
