I bought it last month and have been using it since. Setting it up is not very straightforward but after seeing several UA-cam vids about this, its not so bad.
Been using manual machines for decades. We usually have strong expressos in Portugal and we would never use a single coffee dose for a double and using a big cold cup like that would be heresy. 😅 Some advice: turn on the machine, then when it's ready, do a "fake" coffee, without coffee. This way you will heat up the water circuit, the coffee holder and the cup. Then and only after this, you put the coffee, after emptying the cup of the warm water. This procedure will guarantee you don't loose temperature, in particular before the first coffee. Also don't overcompact the coffee, but tilt the compacter around the edges, so the water is forced into the center.
I would go for the black or silver as in my opinion they will date less or age better...that is unless you have other white appliances or colour scheme to match it to.
I did some extensive research because I was buying this for my friend who's new to espresso and they live in The Netherlands. Therefore I couldn't really buy something here in the US and give it to them, so it had to be from a store over there. Luckily this was one was cheaper over there compared to the US ??? I immediately thought it would be the perfect for her since it's small and compact.
Yes it a good compact size...the price has actually gone up over the years with this machine...I paid about £140 2-3 years ago and its selling for £170-£200 today.
I was choosing a coffee mashine for a long time. Ended up ordering this one. Hope it will be worth the money. I have a question, have you heard\tried to purchase\use single bottom (regular basket) for this mashine?
A pressurized basket is much more forgiving to a beginner or if you don't own a burr grinder. You can remove the black plastic from your portafilter and fit a normal basket, thus turning it into a non-pressurized portafilter. Ps:There is a tutorial video about converting from one to another. Hello! I’ve a delonghi dédica ec685 for a couple of months now. However, I am always in trouble to take a coffee right. If fill the compartment with grounded coffee using the right measure (that is available with the machine), then a press the coffee just a bit with the right tool. However, the machine doesn’t take any coffee. I need to use less coffee than the right measure to take a coffee. Does this happen to you guys? Any suggestions of what is happening? Thank you
This machine doesn't cope too well with fine grinds and a lot of tamping because its a pressurised portafilter...you can tamp coarser grinds but if you are using espresso fine I wouldn't tamp too much and just level off the coffee in the portafilter...hope that helps.
Hello I bought this machine a month ago because its small it s not such a bulky thing on my kitchen bench. So the light game on for descaling. I descaled it meticulously and the orange light kept flashing. In the mean time I descaled the machine 3 times and still kept on flashing. Get very frustrated about it.
I'm surprised the descale light came on after only a month...mine took a year and its still flashing 4 months later as I haven't got round to descaling it yet...but I'll be doing it soon so hopefully I won't have the same issue... I'll probably do a video showing how I descale as it seems a simple procedure...it seems a strange issue to have after descaling and I'll look into it...the descaling light is set on a timer rather than it detecting the machine needs descaling and you can adjust this is the settings so it needs descaling less...have you watched the descaling tutorial by delonghi on youtube I believe the manual doesn't explain it very clearly and steps can be missed which will mean you have to start all over again.

I’ve been going through ur channel and enjoying your videos as well as this one. They are thorough and answer all questions. A quick note: you can make beautiful well-textured latte art milk using the Delonghi steamer but without the metal thing because it causes many bubbles. Take it out and steam without it. Checkout these two videos: 1. ua-cam.com/video/BtItXEwywMQ/v-deo.html . 2. ua-cam.com/video/aKV9pxmjI8A/v-deo.html . Have a look at their channels; they always have nice results with their milk. I have BCO420 and I also get nicely textured milk for latte art without the metal steam.
Thanks for the tips mate... I tried the zip tie method but the rubber nozzle kept popping off... I usually have it set to cappuccino for 30 seconds and then switch to hot milk but never get decent or consistent results... I'll have another go after watching the videos thanks again.
@@dmcerrrmmmm I've just bought this machine after a few years with an Icona from Delonghi. After a lot of practice I found the bast method for producing a decent foam is froth shallow to start with and create quite a lot of bubbles and when the temperature gets to 80C go deeper until the required temperature is reached. Perfect foam every time. Also, run the steamer for a few seconds to get rid of any water build up. I hope this method will work with this one too! Ese pods readily available online as well and so convenient. Lovely coffee as well. thecoffeepod.co.uk is a good source.
Just got a dedica today but finding that my milk has a bad chemical taste after I've steamed it. I've already tried flushing it through. Has anyone had anything like this with their machines?
I've not noticed that before but have noticed a taste if I oversteam/overheat the milk...other than that did you take the steam wand apart and clean the rubber attachment before use...maybe even try a different brand of milk and see if the issue persists...let me know how you get on.

I bought this machine based on many user recommendations. However I found that the machine is of very poor quality, settings are a nuisance for something simple. Worst of all I only have it for a couple of days and for many times the water did not flow for whatever reasons and then flowed again on its own. I had a Breville coffee machine previously and it produced coffee every time until the seals played up and cannot be fixed reliably. I found that with these types of pressure coffee machines, the combination of hot water, high pressure and plastic seals... does not work or has longevity. Just look on the Internet for yourselves you will see users have all sort of problems. They requires a lot of cleaning and even so do not last. You want your coffee quickly in the morning not mucking around with it and it must produce coffee every time. Unfortunately this Delonghi Dedicata does not stand up on quality so it has been returned to the retailer. Just do the good old drip it works every time reliably.
I would agree with you to some degree as I have experienced a dodgy Delonghi or two in my time but when you get a good one they do a decent job...just make sure you keep the receipt in case you were unlucky enough to get a machine that is defective in some way but the chances are small...I had a Delonghi drip filter that was replaced twice by Amazon and I had a leaking machine from a supermarket and I got my money back on that...I've had no issues with my Dedica and use it all the time...thank you for your comments it gives good balance to the mostly positive reviews.
Dude all the instructions in this video are wrong, the first basket for pods, if you put double water in the single shot it will become Americano, this coffee looks like a drip machine coffee, too coarse, and you should tamp the coffee really well! it is called espresso for a reason, it should be compressed really well, I swear that this cup you made went into sink hole directly, dude!
I will.guess you don't have this machine. Tamping any harder than he did, as he says in the vid, with this machine will result in no espresso at all as the pressure builds too much and gets blocked.
The build quality is very poor. Pop the top and you will find a bunch of plastic components waiting to fail. Mine did, a couple of weeks after the warranty ran out.
Pressurised baskets are better with a coarse grind and not much tamping...if its too fine or compacted too much you will get a burnt and bitter coffee...hope that helps.

Typical that's happened to me before with another machine...I got it replaced once and the second time it failed the warranty had just expired...I agree on the plastic components as I have had issues with other Delonghi models in the past...but after two years of heavy use with this machine its still working perfectly fine.

Maybe...my plan is to get a better machine every few years so I'd probably be looking in that price range for my next machine next year probably...I was contacted by a third party asking if I'd be interested in doing some reviews of a Delonghi bean to cup machine so we'll see what pans out there.
Thanks please like & subscribe.
Bro, I feel pity on you if you have used one year that coffee machine as is :D you should had at least bought non-pressurized portafilter cup for it, would had increased tremendously the coffee you make (with a proper grinder and fresh beans). Anyway, nice video!
Thanks mate...I am definitely going to look for non-pressurised for my next machine.
Do you know if non pressurised portafilters are available as such? Or would I have to modify my standard pressurised portafilter?
@@user-oh8sz1zd6o I think there are videos demonstrating how to modify the pressurised portafilters and I think there are websites you can get them online but not 100% sure if I find any links I'll let you know.
@@dmcerrrmmmm I thank you!
@@user-oh8sz1zd6o There is, you can get them from Ebay. You just have to figure out what fits to your model. Here is one example www.ebay.com/itm/Coffee-Cup-51mm-Non-Pressurized-Filter-Basket-For-Breville-Delonghi-Krups/302231088112?hash=item465e606bf0:g:ULsAAOSwBmJcdTwZ
Very much worth it to figure it out, you will get way better espresso, if you just have a proper espresso grinder.
Thats a coffee, Not an esspresso. Runs through far to quickly and with to much water for the coffee you inserted. At best this is a Espresso Light.
Thank you for your imput... how long have you been using this machine for?
I will.guess you don't have this machine. Tamping any harder than he did, as he says in the vid, with this machine will result in no espresso at all as the pressure builds too much and gets blocked.
Can you make a latte
With this
Yes it makes good lattes...I set the milk steamer to hot milk in the up position rather than cappuccino.
@@dmcerrrmmmm perfect thanks

Bro, you should have shown all the functions including milk frothing instead of showing the manual!!!!
The build quality is very poor. Pop the top and you will find a bunch of
plastic components waiting to fail. Mine did, a couple of weeks after
the warranty ran out.
kelvin five I notice you leave this same message in every review video of this product
bad luck:)?
Da heck..?!? 😂 You call that "espresso"???
Im a listening to a scouce guy
You have a good ear my friend.
I bought mine today it’s ideal for the home !
Hello! I still have the pressurized basket and I use the graef grinder.
Do you have any idea why I get bitter and burnt coffee?
Pressurised baskets are better with a coarse grind and not much tamping...if its too fine or compacted too much you will get a burnt and bitter coffee...hope that helps.

Typical that's happened to me before with another machine...I got it replaced once and the second time it failed the warranty had just expired...I agree on the plastic components as I have had issues with other Delonghi models in the past...but after two years of heavy use with this machine its still working perfectly fine.
