Thank you for your detailed video on the coffee machine. That model has just been released here in the UK, purchased it from Argos a well-known UK multi-product retailer. I ordered mine today, they are having an early Black Friday sale, from £250 to £200, a wee bargain. Great review! I have owned this machine since April and love it. I did purchase a non-pressurized porta filter and feel it makes a really nice cup of coffee. Making a proper steamed milk is nice. Still terrible making latte art 😂. One thing to add is you can adjust the temperature of the water making the coffee. I found the shots barely hot with the regular factory setting. Very happy with this machine and the small footprint in my small kitchen. Thanks for reviewing this machine.

After watching your video, I'm sure this is the coffee machine I was looking for. Now all you have to do is order it. Greetings from Great Britain.😊
Waiting for mine to arrive, just ordered one, looking for some decent upgrade after having experimented quite a lot with my previous cheap machine.🤩Thanks so much for the detailed review
Thank you for mentioning the plastic early on in your vid, its so hard to avoid coffee machines that allow the hot water to come in contact with plastic.
Your videos inspired me. The Delonghi EC885 is excellent. I have these upgrades: * Open portafiter * IMS basket * Leveler * Mesh - sits on top of puck * WDT!! I added the WDT and it makes a huge difference. I have a 1zpresso hand grinder, no "clumps", but, what the WDT does is remove "air pockets" and make the puck much more evenly dense before you tamp. Huge difference! I adjust EC885 to highest water temp. I put in 15gms, wdt, level, tamp HARD (like 40lbs pressure), put on mesh, run the shot (preprogrammed to 38 ml which gives me 30 ml with a shot). No channeling, excellent crema. You can hear the machine working harder and achieving a higher pressure. If it's working really hard, you'll see a little drip coming out of the wand, watch for it! Dedica is great, but imma add the 3420 to get the better temp.
Bought one a year ago and love it. Sadly it was advising decalcifying every 3 weeks and sent to repairer who identified the reason being the cockroaches inside the machine. The Arte was bought as we moved into our brand new unit and never having seen a cockroach in the intervening time we are at a loss to understand how they can have got inside. As the repair cost is 50% above the cost of a new machine I will replace the machine with new one. Been a Dedica user for a long time and will continue to be one Love your videos
I just picked mine up and im using the pressurized filter currently. If I press the double button I always get 60-70g of liquid no matter how fine the grind is (kingrinder v4). should i be stopping the extraction manually at 25ish seconds with 30ish grams of liquid (14g of grinds)?
you should not be adjusting grind size on a pressurized basket. Entire point of the pressurized basket is to eliminate the grind headache and make an “easy serve”. If you’d like to mess with grind size and get a better shot, you should get a non pressurized basket. Yes you should stop manually at 30 grams so you don’t wash your shot out. Even better if you rewatch the video he tells you how to program your shot. (volumetric dosing). also with a pressurized basket it’s not gonna be worth measuring out the amount of volume in and out and the extraction time since you’ll be getting a mediocre shot anyway. Moral of story. Upgrade new portafilter and basket if you want to do all that
I dont drink any coffee with milk and i dont even use the steam wand that often but only the fact that comes with the tools itself its worth buying it over EC685. Always is nice to watch your videos Tom, good job 👍.
Hey Rezart! Totally agree on that one. And, if you ever get guests over who do like milk drinks, then you can make them with this machine, better than the other Dedicas. Cheers!
This is a really helpful video and has sold me on this machine. I was considering the Gaggia Classic Pro but I think this may be a better entry to espresso making for me.
Thank you for the kind compliment, Holly! Of the two, this one is certainly more ergonomic. The learning curve on the GCP in my opinion is much higher. I hope you like your machine! Tom
Simply explained for someone that does not own a coffee machine, i now own one of these, how can i ever drink normal coffee from a kettle again. I also use soya milk which makes no difference. Thanks Tom
Hi Tom, just wanted to thank you for your reviews and straightforward advice. My Dedica 885 arrived today and it's absolutely great. I may be tempted to an open filter at some point once I've actually got the hang of it, but thanks for your help in choosing the right one for my budget :)
Thanks again, Tom for great info. Just ordered the IMS basket. Really expencive to get to Norway, so I ordered it on belgian amazon to my belgian friend who is coming to Norway in two weeks 😂.
hello. what is the color of the coffee maker in the video? Is it 885 GY??? Silver color? or uncoated stainless steel? Which is still better than 685 or 885?? Thanks!
It’s a great machine. Problem for me is when I remove the portafilter from the machine, the basket comes off and gets stuck in the machine. I have to push it sideways every time to release. Not sure why that is happening.
Hi, I have owned this machine for a year now and it was good at first, however the steam pressure is now significantly leas than when it was new and I am not able to generate a vortex to create microfoam. Has anyone else had this issue and solved it?
Hello. I have a problem with the 885 model.. When water is supplied, after spilling 10 - 15 seconds, cook 30 milliliters of coffee. When you press the double espresso button, the extradition takes 20 seconds - 60 grams of coffee. Is this how it should be? With an increase in the volume of water, the time of the strait also changes.. That is, if I want to make an espresso of 30 grams, does it cook for 10-15 seconds? Or do I have a problem with the car?
@@TomsCoffeeCorner if I hold for 25 seconds, as it should be extracted, then pours 90 milliliters of coffee. Is it normal that it pours 90 milliliters in 25 seconds?
thx a lot - that you also or even present such low budget beginners machines - because of such reels I decided to opt for this SMALL and slim espresso machine and spend much more money for an excellent grinder (the EMIL / BG T64, a further devolpemnt of the g-iota etc. grinders with many improvements aesthetically and functionally as well). go ahead with that stuff;-)!
Fantastic video - thanks so much. I have a 685 that's about 9 years old and started leaking water and doing some other weird stuff like the steam shutting off after a couple of pumps. So I got the 885 and agree it's a definite upgrade. Steam wand is so much better and copes much better with a fine grind. Two questions: (1) there was a pointless "needle" included in the box - I can't quite work that one out - am I missing something? (2) does the depressurised portafilter improve the flavour? I use ground coffee from the shops (NZ has great coffee options) but buy a new packet every 1-2 weeks so it's pretty fresh. My standard flat white tastes great. I could cut down my old portafilter... or do I keep the 665 as a reserve for my brother's holiday house since maybe the leak was just crap stuck in the water tank outlet?
Like you’r reviews, about the rubber thats food grade silicon if i remember correctly so its totally safe if anyone is worried about the taste just do a couple of empty shots before you’r first shot and you’re good to go
I’m struggling with mine, shot times are very very quick, this is with no coffee in and steamer seems to be very quick, someone mentioned I have maybe programmed the shot time to be very short, didn’t know this was possible, have I made a mistake?
Hi Tom, I bought the delonghi dedica as my 1st espresso machine on Black Friday last year after I saw your video. I enjoyed it as a beginner. However, after a few mos of using something happened with my frother. We don’t use it a lot but I was gonna foam milk to put in my matcha today when all of a sudden the frother stopped working . I was able to purge it initially, but once I started foaming the milk it stopped working. My brother already de scaled the machine. Do you have any idea why it’s not working or do you think it broke?😢 Thanks Tom!
Hi Tom what dedica DeLonghi espresso machine would you recommend? For 2025! 🎉what Is the best? For lots of Crema and a good steam wand. I currently have the EC680 and I’d like to get a better steam wand so would you recommend the Mastro or the ARTE 885? Also I just bought the norm core bottomless forgot what it’s called? Anyway should I get an IMS basket for the norm core bottomless or is the basket that comes with it good enough for now? Put it this way which one gives the best or more creama? 🙏 thanks
Hey Tom, Do you know if there’s any plastic in the steam wand from the 885 Arte? if it is all stainless steel inside so the hot water goes through only the stainless steel in the steam wand, then I will buy the Arte 885 tomorrow. Because I currently am using the 680 model dedica. And I don’t like the plastic steam wand. ( I would change the steam wand but looks too complicated for me. Rather just buy the 885 Arte instead. But only if the hot water in steam wand does not have any contact with plastic. Cause I already have that unfortunately on my 680 model. Thanks 🙏☺️

Great thanks Tom. Is there one in particular that you would suggest to purchase? Basically, which one would you have bought if you had to buy one for your machine thanks. 🙏
I have an EC685 that has made more than 15,000 coffees, now I have to change the water pump and the valve, and I would like to know if I could change the steam wand for that of the EC 885... Since I am repairing it, I would like to take advantage, if possible
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I tried so hard to push it in. It wont . Also the steamer only produces hot water not much steam. So returning this. Thank you though
Thank you for the review. I just purchased one of these. When I try to pull out hot water from the steam wand, it splutters all over the place. Is that normal? Steam works perfectly well, hot water (i.e. for americano) not so much....
Thank you for sharing your experiences. I find this model quite good myself, and I can get a good silky milk foam from it. I think it’s a good next iteration of the EC 685. Cheers, Tom
Tom, thanks for your excellent reviews and information rich tutorials. You mention that you don’t think the tip can be upgraded. Do you know if this is still the case? I would love to change to a 3 or 4 hole tip if its possible. Many thanks, Chris
i have the Delonghi Dedica Arte EC885 since about 6 months now and i don't know what i'm doing wrong but can't get a good frothed milk with it.... and it seems to be so easy for you....
Hi Jean, well I have practiced on many machines, so that makes it a little easier. Check out this video, on a similar machine: ua-cam.com/video/J113t5usekE/v-deo.html
I just returned the 680 because it was defective and learned from Amazon it’s a frequently retuned item. Trying to decide what to buy now. Hopefully this is a better machine.
Had a bent deformed wall on the left side. It still worked but I wasn’t going to except a new machine in that condition. We should be getting the EC885 today.
Can a Baratza encore grinder produce a fine enough grind for a none pressurised basket? Does the 15 bar pressure of this machine affect the use of a non pressurised basket?
I have read that the Encore can be modded, but was not really designed for espresso. The Dedica doesn't really provide 15 bar. Please see my latest video, where I measure the pressure.
Thank you so much for this video! I am a barista myself and was looking to buy my first home machine. Couldn't decide which one as I had tried some Breville and Sumbeam machines at friend's houses and none of them reached my expectatives and also my budget wasn't as much. I bought it yesterday, first used and I already love it ❤
How did you remove the insert from the basket? The manual says to use a needle but that doesn't help it seems. Is there a special needle for that? If so, I didn't get one in the package...

@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks for replying Tom. Think my wife figured it out, using the single shot rather than double I was putting too much coffee in. 7-8g in single pot and it poured out nicely.
I’m confused/puzzled by the default volumes for the 1- and 2-cup buttons. For a ‘double’ shot with 14g coffee, the machine is programmed (as per the manual) to deliver 70mL - but everything I read online suggests that 14g grounds should go to approx 28g delivered coffee. What have I misunderstood?
Hi Jonathan, I think it delivers 70ml when not under load, so when no portafilter is inserted with coffee. Anyway, just take a scale, and press the button until 30g ends up in the cup. 👍 Then, that amount will be saved for next time.

After watching your video, I'm sure this is the coffee machine I was looking for. Now all you have to do is order it. Greetings from Great Britain.😊
Awesome, hope you enjoy it!
Waiting for mine to arrive, just ordered one, looking for some decent upgrade after having experimented quite a lot with my previous cheap machine.🤩Thanks so much for the detailed review
Thanks for your feedback, and I hope you like your machine!
Thank you for mentioning the plastic early on in your vid, its so hard to avoid coffee machines that allow the hot water to come in contact with plastic.
Got my Dedica Arte and your tutorial videos have been really helpful. Thank you ! From the Philippines
@@MaridelSantos-j5k thanks for the feedback! Enjoy! Tom
Love your channel. Your videos are very helpful. Bought the dedica arte and a bottomless portafilter. It's awesome. Thank you.
Thanks for your feedback, and have fun!
Your videos inspired me. The Delonghi EC885 is excellent. I have these upgrades:
* Open portafiter
* IMS basket
* Leveler
* Mesh - sits on top of puck
* WDT!!
Hi! Great explanation!
What means "Add 3420"?
@@ruslanetss It means buy the DeLonghi 3420, but I think I'm not going to do that. Coffee is fine right now.
❤
What portafilter did you use?
Bought one a year ago and love it.
Sadly it was advising decalcifying every 3 weeks and sent to repairer who identified the reason being the cockroaches inside the machine.
The Arte was bought as we moved into our brand new unit and never having seen a cockroach in the intervening time we are at a loss to understand how they can have got inside.
As the repair cost is 50% above the cost of a new machine I will replace the machine with new one.
Been a Dedica user for a long time and will continue to be one
Love your videos
I just picked mine up and im using the pressurized filter currently. If I press the double button I always get 60-70g of liquid no matter how fine the grind is (kingrinder v4). should i be stopping the extraction manually at 25ish seconds with 30ish grams of liquid (14g of grinds)?
Did u find out what to do then?
you should not be adjusting grind size on a pressurized basket. Upgrade new portafilter and basket if you want to do all that
@@carmenridolfi7370 i’ve upgraded my basket shortly after my post so no worries there
@carmenridolfi7370 exactly, plus while using small scale this is easily doable (stop manually)
Cheers!
Absolutely thats way better upgrade than the old ec685 👌.

Always great content, that steam wand is certainly a super upgrade!
Definitely! I quite like the steam wand design.
That's a great review, Tom! :) Love watching your videos.
Thanks so much, Arthur!
always a joy to watch your videos :)
I appreciate that!
Great video!
I saw this machine at the store, now I'm kinda hoping my old Dedica breaks 🤣
Yes, I get that! The new steam wand is sweet. Cheers!
Just sell and buy the new model. 😉
Tom
whaat bottomless portafilter do you suggest with this
Simply explained for someone that does not own a coffee machine, i now own one of these, how can i ever drink normal coffee from a kettle again. I also use soya milk which makes no difference. Thanks Tom
You betcha, Kevin! Thanks for watching, and have fun! Tom
Hi Tom, just wanted to thank you for your reviews and straightforward advice. My Dedica 885 arrived today and it's absolutely great. I may be tempted to an open filter at some point once I've actually got the hang of it, but thanks for your help in choosing the right one for my budget :)
What coffee ground are using. Mine has been a nightmare, haven’t poured a single decent shot yet.
Thanks again, Tom for great info. Just ordered the IMS basket. Really expencive to get to Norway, so I ordered it on belgian amazon to my belgian friend who is coming to Norway in two weeks 😂.

Finally a proper steam wand for Dedica series..
Yeah I know. It took them a while, but I like it!
Great video thank you, i was hesitant to have it but after watching ur video , i will go for it😍thanks again
hello. what is the color of the coffee maker in the video? Is it 885 GY??? Silver color? or uncoated stainless steel? Which is still better than 685 or 885?? Thanks!
This is the EC885M. It is stainless. I prefer it over the previous models, due to the better steam wand.
today i had ordered it , i thought is amazing 💫
It’s a great machine. Problem for me is when I remove the portafilter from the machine, the basket comes off and gets stuck in the machine. I have to push it sideways every time to release. Not sure why that is happening.
Thanks for sharing! The cappuccino looks great!
Thank you for review! You helped a lot!❤
Brilliant ... short and to the point. Many thanks
This video was super helpful. Thank you. Gaggia it is for me. I didn't even know about this brand until watching your video.
You betcha! Thanks for watching!
Hi there! Just hold down the button for the duration of the shot, until you reach the volume you want.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner if I hold for 25 seconds, as it should be extracted, then pours 90 milliliters of coffee. Is it normal that it pours 90 milliliters in 25 seconds?
@@Кирилл-я3в9б Stop it when you get to 32 grams. If it goes too fast, then you gotta grind finer. Cheers!
when will they understand that they have to make it with the filter holder like the maestro plus with the non-pressurized filters in addition?!
Hi there, what type of milk is the best to use for creamy cappuccino like yours? Thank a lot for your vid 🎉
Can the steam wand come apart to be cleaned on the delonghi EC885. Mine is making a high pitched noise and isn’t working properly.
I use a bottomless filter but my pucks are dry from bottom and watery on the top. Puck does not come off with one tap
such a helpful review! im considering getting one for myself 😁
thx a lot - that you also or even present such low budget beginners machines - because of such reels I decided to opt for this SMALL and slim espresso machine and spend much more money for an excellent grinder (the EMIL / BG T64, a further devolpemnt of the g-iota etc. grinders with many improvements aesthetically and functionally as well). go ahead with that stuff;-)!
Glad I could help!
Like you’r reviews, about the rubber thats food grade silicon if i remember correctly so its totally safe if anyone is worried about the taste just do a couple of empty shots before you’r first shot and you’re good to go
Does this model use a 51mm portafilter?

How many double-shots could I get with filling the behind water tank?
Thank you for the amazing review and details… very objective review.. your review really helped me decide on the machine

🙏 thanks
I can not get to create the crema of the cofffee... A little advice for me please? 💜💜
I’m in the same boat!
Thanks 🙏☺️

Very nice vidéo !
Please coud you say What Grinder should i use to make a good coiffe With a bottomless on my Dedica Delonghi.
I really have hard time to make a good coffee juste like you!
Thank you very much to help me!
Bon jour, Pascal! It depends on your budget and preferences. Graef CM702 is a good option on the budget end, but you'll need to add the included spacing washers.
Otherwise, maybe a Baratza ESP or Fellow Opus. Feel free to contact me at my website if you want to. Cheers! Tom
Great thanks Tom. Is there one in particular that you would suggest to purchase? Basically, which one would you have bought if you had to buy one for your machine thanks. 🙏
It is very difficult take off the coffe from the filtro after using the machine why? What's wrong in using it? Thanks for your help
You need to wait 60 seconds for the pressure to abate. Cheers!
Is this machine coming with non pressuring porta filter or do you need to but extra one please?
You need to buy the unpressurized basket. Check the video description for some ideas.
I have an EC685 that has made more than 15,000 coffees, now I have to change the water pump and the valve, and I would like to know if I could change the steam wand for that of the EC 885... Since I am repairing it, I would like to take advantage, if possible
I have heard that it's possible, but you have to find the part...
Thank you . I wish you would show how to use the other baskets. Mine does not fit .and there is no instructions.
Which baskets? You just have to push them in. Cheers!
@@TomsCoffeeCorner I tried so hard to push it in. It wont . Also the steamer only produces hot water not much steam. So returning this. Thank you though
How do you determine the number of clicks or the grind fineness ?
Thank you for the review. I just purchased one of these. When I try to pull out hot water from the steam wand, it splutters all over the place. Is that normal? Steam works perfectly well, hot water (i.e. for americano) not so much....
Thank you for sharing your experiences. I find this model quite good myself, and I can get a good silky milk foam from it. I think it’s a good next iteration of the EC 685. Cheers, Tom

i have the Delonghi Dedica Arte EC885 since about 6 months now and i don't know what i'm doing wrong but can't get a good frothed milk with it.... and it seems to be so easy for you....
Hi Jean, well I have practiced on many machines, so that makes it a little easier. Check out this video, on a similar machine: ua-cam.com/video/J113t5usekE/v-deo.html
Does the machine have to be on when you open it?
Hi your Bottomless portafilter is different? What one is yours? And where did you get yours? Thanks.
Hi there! I made mine, but you can order one from Amazon too. I have some links in the video description.
I just returned the 680 because it was defective and learned from Amazon it’s a frequently retuned item.
Trying to decide what to buy now. Hopefully this is a better machine.
What was defective?
Had a bent deformed wall on the left side. It still worked but I wasn’t going to except a new machine in that condition. We should be getting the EC885 today.
Can a Baratza encore grinder produce a fine enough grind for a none pressurised basket? Does the 15 bar pressure of this machine affect the use of a non pressurised basket?
I have read that the Encore can be modded, but was not really designed for espresso. The Dedica doesn't really provide 15 bar. Please see my latest video, where I measure the pressure.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner thanks
Got one of these yesterday, mine came with a milk jug too
When making an expression the coffee is dripping instead of constantly fill out the cup, there is a reason for that?
It'll keep dripping for a while after the shot, due to the residual pressure in the brew group.
Thank you so much for this video!
I am a barista myself and was looking to buy my first home machine. Couldn't decide which one as I had tried some Breville and Sumbeam machines at friend's houses and none of them reached my expectatives and also my budget wasn't as much.
I bought it yesterday, first used and I already love it ❤
Awesome! Glad to hear you're happy. Have fun!
How did you remove the insert from the basket? The manual says to use a needle but that doesn't help it seems. Is there a special needle for that? If so, I didn't get one in the package...
Do you mean the rubber insert? That can be removed via a little tab.
@@TomsCoffeeCorner yes I mean that one. I tried pulling but it won't budge. Do I have to pull really hard?
Hello Tom. I am a bit confused with the way my delonghi 885 pours. It just drops slowly like drop by drop does not pour nicely like in your video, what can be the reason
Have you tried grinding coarser?
@@TomsCoffeeCorner Will do, should be the reason. Thanks a lot.
Just bought this thanks to your review. I’m not getting a continuous flow of coffee. Getting 14g in for the single shot, the grind is for an espresso machine but I’m getting only 10-15ml drip through
Hello there!
I’m guessing that your beans are probably too old - or in other words roasted too long ago.
It could also be that your grinder is not ideal for espresso.

@@TomsCoffeeCorner Thanks! That makes sense.
