Back on 74/Message in a Bottle RETAKE if you want to hear him SING SING. ❤I think you’ll enjoy it very much sir. Thank you. The sample is Vera Hall. Ren usually drops the Acoustic versions afterwards.
Ren put out this song for ME Awareness month. He'd made a promise to himself, and the people who hadn't made it back to the world, that he wasn't going to leave them behind. This was just one step in him keeping his promise. It's the first song about chronic illness to chart. The worst of Ren's sickness was in 2015/2016. He was very sick... he was sure his death was imminent. His mother wouldn't leave him home alone, she was very concerned he was going to give in. When he says he was recording with the devil knocking on the track, it was actually health vlogs. He was recording, hoping that his story would get out and help someone after his death. Instead, the stem cell doctor came across the videos and offered him a $25k experimental treatment for free. His selflessness saved his life. The sample is Vera Hall, a slave's daughter in the genre and time period of, like, Nina Simone, who Ren also loves. It's been used by many people - most famously Moby - but Ren went back to the original source and paid Vera Hall's estate for permission to use it. He edited the track from the sample himself. There's a short on his RenMakesStuff channel of him turning the sample into that high frequency playing in the background. With Ren, the produced versions always come first. The acoustic are him remixing his own stuff. A lot of people like the acoustics best but it's always worth doing the original first, imo. For this one I, also, prefer the rap. Many say the acoustic hits harder but it doesn't for me 🤷🏻♀️ I only really like the acoustics best for the singing songs.
Damn just learned a lot here love that good looks! And that makes sense why he’s so soulful too! And I’m not gonna lie the hip hop version definitely hit me for sure but I didn’t mind the acoustic. It’s new n mellow to me
@@unclebito61715He loves the music 😊 Some people come for him saying he has no business as a white guy from the UK touching the songs, but he tries to keep it respectful and explains the songs resonate with him from a different place, but still mean a lot to him. A lot of his busking videos and a couple with The Big Push are songs like Trouble So Hard and Wade In The Water. I think everyone's always a little thrown by the sheer breadth of his musical influences. I mean, you jump from Nas to shouting out Nat King Cole, to singing Man's World with one friend and I Shot The Sheriff or War Pigs with his band then skip on over for some Elvis, 50 Cent and Stairway To Heaven on a livestream and a year later proceed to drop a crazy track with some Kendrick influences and Ragaeton 😂 It's all Ren's world!
Yeah he rap-raps and he sing-sings. Check out "Back on 74/Message in a Bottle" if you want to hear him sing-sing in the most soulfull way. Love that you went for the acoustic version first.
I agree. You need to hear him sing! Back on 74/ Message in a Bottle live retake or How to Be Me feat. Chinchilla LIVE version. He can more than sing, sing: he has gorgeous pipes and harmonization!!! Please do them. ❤ For Joe live is also a beautiful singing and rap song that he wrote for his friend that took his own life when they were young.
When you get to 'Genesis' and 'Murderer' i would suggest doing the song then Acoustic as you will get to appreciate how he makes it a new song almost :D unless you prefer this way of course,i'll watch either way
Thanks I appreciate that 🫡💙💙yeah I liked how he sounded when singing we may have unlocked signing ren on this channel lol even though I’m supposed to stick to rap! But we’ll pivot haha
Really liking your reactions ❤️. You are right. Ren is a rapper and loves hip hop. He equally loves Rock, EDM punk, jazz, soul etc. I don't know how he can be so immersed in all genres. As a career, Ren was a producer first. He was 13. He couldn't find a rapper in his small village, so he did it himself. 🥰 He started busking at 17.
I agree with u bro. He’s an incredible rapper with a mind full of knowledge that allows him to come up with sick rhymes…but has a beautiful singing voice also
it is a sample of Singer Vera Hall Troubles No More and Ren rewrote and made his own I thimk The singer Mobley use the Vera Hall sample 10- 15 years ago Ren has also perform. the Vera Hall song also live while busking on the street
Actually, he’s a singer first. His Sick Boi album was him diving into rap and outside of his comfort zone. But Ten is a genius and can do anything. His second album has one rap song and the rest will actually be “singing” songs. Check out his band, The Big Push. Specifically, check out I Shot The Sheriff, where he’s wearing the red suspenders.
When was a producer 1st at 13, then rapped because he couldn't find a rapper. This started his career. Even though I'm sure he sang before but not professionally. He busked for the first time at 17
It's the other way around. The rap version came first and then he made the acoustic from it. Same with Murderer and others. Still fascinating that he is able to interpret his own song in drastically different ways. He is a good soul living music 😊
The acoustic and the produced videos! 🔥 🔥 You're an original! We vibing!! The comments are great too! Want something fun/crazzy next? Halftime nas retake, The Hunger or Losing it. Take your pick! P. S. Ren's medical condition persists😢.......Love and Good Vibes for Ren❤
Uncle Bito, you missed the premier of a new song drop by Ren today ofc his new album "Slaughter House " health related but rapping one. I hate rap but like Rens rap. Amazing performance. Maybe tomorrow you may listen. Anything by Ren is diamonds. Support Ren and send him ❤and positive vibes
I feel like music is a universal language and genres are the different regional dialects of the same language. You got the idea of what he was communicating when you heard the acoustic version of this song but, you understood him completely when he spoke the same words in the dialect that you regularly listen to. That was like watching magic happen! It was so cool! Thank you so much for taking the time to do both versions and explaining what you were feeling along the way! This was such a cool reaction! 💐 Ren dropped a new song today from his next album! The video is INSANE! My brain is still reeling and I watched it an hour ago! 🔥🔥🔥
Yes I completely agree! And it’s a feeling! I’m glad you were able to catch that in real time but I definitely laughed at myself before letting y’all know! It’s crazy how the mind will hear things depending on the delivery
Ren started in music by teaching himself guitar and how to make beats. He couldn't find anybody locally to rap over his beats, so he learned to do it himself. I think both singing and rap are highly ingrained into him. He likes to sing rap (like in the 90s), but he also loves to throw a verse or two into a lot of singing songs. He turns a lot of his raps into acoustic version. That might actually be backwards, as he uses the guitar and piano to write a lot of his stuff. So, even though he released the rap first, he may have written it on the guitar before making a beat. His most recent album was meant to be his version of a hip hop album. So, most of his new stuff reflects that. As you move backwards in his catalog, you see the singing being much more front and center. But even then, rap is peppered throughout his catalog. Not as many whole songs, but a verse of chorus here and there. And sometimes he sings in a rap type flow and cadence. He sings, he raps, he sing-raps, and he rap-sings. His work with The Big Push has almost no rap though. Almost.
Nope, he usually starts with the beat. Very rarely with the lyrics because he hears rap as percussion. He creates the percussive lines in the beat and then makes the words fit. There are some instances where it's the other way around, but he's talked about it a couple of times. I think the most thorough explanation might've been in the Justin Hawkins interview if I'm remembering correctly.
@@perfectkismet I'm just basing it off how I have seen him develop songs in his instagram vids. I haven't watched any of the interviews yet. I have a separate playlist for those that I keep meaning to get to.
His "raw thoughts with the grim reaper knockin' on the track" were being translated into a blog. The "stem cell doctor with a generous glow" spoken about read that blog and approached Ren offering a $25,000 stem cell treatment that saved his life.
Ren sampled a sample from "Trouble so Hard" from the Moby Play album, which was released about 12 years ago. I have that CD. Moby sampled it from Vera Hill "Trouble so Hard", Atlantic records, 1960. Many other artists sampled Vera Hill.
The same sample was used by Moby. A number of reactions said that the beginning reminded them of a Nas song. Not the sample though. Kanye also used the same sample.
"....for the FIRST time BEAUTY was a word that I used..."...he found the beauty in what good things he found through his struggles. Great reaction man. You will respect his "Nas Halftime RETAKE" Not a cover...just react to it blind please. I believe you'll appreciate it. FYI the captions aren't the best. You're intelligent enough to figure it out.
Lordy! Have you got a ride ahead: ⚠Please keep your hands and feet inside the vehicle at all times. And, as a courtesy to others, please scream only inside your mind. ⚠ Others have sampled Vera Hall's "Trouble So Hard", from 1937, so no doubt you've heard it many times. Singing, eh? You haven't done "Chalk Outlines ft. Chinchilla" yet . . . Or any of Ren with The Big Push. ( Tip: Whenever possible, do the official video first, and the acoustic version second.)
Apart from the Vera Hall sample, I'm not sure Ren sampled anyone else on this. You know he produces and makes a lot of his own beats, so it could just sound like something else. Ren has such a deep knowledge of so many musical genres, it might just be from his own magpie mind.

Vera Hall - Troubles So Hard!😊
"....he can sing sing??" .....oh sweet summer child... prepare yourself 😂💜
Rens style is VERY 90s, which i love since that was my decade 😂 i was born in 83 and ren was born in 90.💜
"Trouble So Hard" by American folk singer Vera Hall (1937).
The OG yes , the sample he's looking for is the Moby cover from the 90s.
You should check out the chapters in the troubles playlist for the full story. This is just the caption on the last page!

Troubles was one of the first songs I heard from him lol I love this song (:
The sample is trouble so hard by Vera hall .... moby used it in natural blues 🇬🇧😊

Nice reaction… your ear is “tuned” for the song cadence of rap. It makes sense to you.

Yeah Ren makes his Acoustic live versions almost into different songs. One of the few artists whose live is as good, if not better, than the studio.
Animal flow should also be a two-fer and Genesis. ❤❤❤ please
Well I can’t do that for that lol take out genesis n give me another n let’s seeee! (I did genesis a while back)
