I like the heavy duty emergency tarp I bought from your site a couple years ago.. I do wish that they came in bigger sizes like 8×8 or 9×9 for more coverage and would love to be able to set up a tent configuration with the emergency tarp and see what the heat retention would be.
    Much respect to you.

I got two. Taped the 7' sides together to make a survival blanket 7'x10'. Great for tarp shelters now!

Gee thanks Dave. I just finished adding the four center grommets to the last three "old style" Survival Blankets I bought from you. I'm going to wait for the next Blanket iteration before I buy any more, hopefully the next improvement will be to add center grommets to the remaining two sides to make these excellent things as versatile as they need to be.

That ready to roll ridgeline and carrying real tent pegs is extremely smart. Carving tent pegs can just wears your knife edge and exposes one to potential accidents. Carrying pegs is a risk remover and saves time. Smart.

I agree with several of the comments below. I would also like to see the two additional side grommets as well as it being available in a square shape 8x8 and/or 10x10.

Last year for Christmas I got the 8" skillet and Swedish style mess kit and stove, awesome pieces of gear. This year I got the Scout Canteen (it's gonna make the BEST flask!) and two of these new tarps, one in each color. The green one had two grommets that were mis-struck, the metal was actually torn. I got on their website, filled out the form with a pic attached thinking I'd get a return label, mail it back, get a new one eventually...LET ME TELL YOU, bearing in mind this is Christmas, they responded right away, sent me a new one and said keep or toss the old one, the new one arrived today, just 4 days after Christmas. AMAZING customer service and these things are DIRT CHEAP, like $13 or something. Now to find the time to use them! Dave, great work, Happy New Year and I hope 2024 is incredible for you.

Dave, you are a wealth of wisdom.i do have one question/suggestion. Have you ever thought of putting small toggles on the grommets themselves? I have toggles on several of the tie out points made of cut up tent poles. It makes setup quicker than anything I've ever seen. Just slip the toggles thru the prusik knots and slide. I also have toggles on all 4 corners for the same reason. Attach you pre-made guys with bowlines on one end and other end is the same marlin spike hitch. Good video as always. Thanks

Dave, I don’t know if you would run into a patent issue, but a nylon tarp with an aluminized layer would be good. It’d be like the Jerven Bags, but maybe a bit cheaper & a bit bigger.

Hey Dave, thanks for continuing to experiment & innovate.
I’m taking your basic survival class in April and just bought two of the emergency shelter kits so I can practice with one and have one in good shape for the class. I will keep those in my vehicles and order the new blankets when they are released this afternoon. I really do appreciate the fact that you continue testing the gear you sell and making improvements when warranted on gear that is already really good.

My number one issue with it! I use it above my hammock tent in cold conditions tucked under the rain fly. I'd love to have the middle grommets strung to my ridgeline so I can leave the front one or two grommets free to flap so I can get out easily.

Since you're using the survival blanket as a reflective tent, would you carry a second one as a ground tarp or sleeping burrito? How would you close off the ends of the tarp to help hold/channel the heat in?
What's the difference between the survival blanket and the space blanket?
I have 3-4 bivy sacks, but wasn't there a heavier version of them? Recently I saw a pop up ad for some type of longer thicker version of the bivy sack. Can't remember if they called it a survival sack. I'm usually sceptical.

this is similar to what I use ( A-frame leen too mix ) except my overhang is only about 2 foot and it is basically a leen too design no need for center groumets as the tension on overhang is enough to keep tarp in place over ridgeline how it tests in field I don't know my experience in outdoors is limited

  • @TestSpaceMonkey

Is there value in tying those prusik hitch loops off with a big stop knot, maybe something that ends up hanging off the side of the loop, so you can use it as a button to secure the ridge line holes on the tarp? In other words you put the knot holding the prusik hitch loop where the stake would go, eliminating the need for those extra 2 stakes on the ridge. I've played a bit with button knots on tarp setups and they hold well if you run the loop being anchored around them them twice.

Dave, I recently looked at buying one of the Pathfinder Survival Blankets, however I was still reading reports of the grommets ripping out when used with lines and not stakes. Can you address this? Is this still an issue? Does it depend on the type of line (thinner bankline vs thicker parachord)? I read somewhere that the pathfinder school was recommending using gorilla tape to strengthen the grommets. Is this still suggested? If so, can you make or direct us to a video about that?
    Thanks!

What happened to the friction toggles on the anchor ends of the ridgeline -- the extra prussic loop with the toggle in place of the truckers hitch?
Didn't some of the utility cords also have a toggle to make the loop-to-toggle connection for extending the length of a line?
I get that this is another option - but did the toggles not make it into the overall cordage management system?
