Same here. Of all the great JJ songs this one has been popping into my head from time to time since it first came out. I think it's because of that great title line, sung so perfectly.
Back in '78 the woman destined to become my wife and I made this our theme song. Then we kinda grew less crazy as we got old. These last twenty years she's been my ex-wife. But the song still speaks to me of promise, back when the world was wide.
Miss these days when my dad played pedal steel with JJ. Some of my favorites on this album, especially Dave Perkins incredible solo guitar work and Reese Wynans on the keys.
[Verse 1] Did you ever find out who wrote that pretty song? Was your road to Mexico diamonds or stones? Did you need that lucky piece I slipped in your hand? Were you ready when the cold wind caught you at the Rio Grande? [Chorus 1] We were kinda crazy then Needin' lovers more than friends Songs on my guitar You said felt like flowers against your scars May you find a friend tonight May he finally treat you right Can you find that same moon I've been staring at all night? [Verse 2] Always keep your word shining just like some bullet bright While this old world wears its heart like a big bullseye No don't you ever let them teach you the right from the wrong Did you ever find out who wrote that pretty song? [Chorus 2] We were kinda crazy then Needin' lovers more than friends Songs on my guitar They're for you, they always are May you find a friend tonight May he finally treat you right May you find that same moon Shining my love on you night [Chorus 3] We were kinda crazy then Needin' lovers more than friends Songs on my guitar You know me, shit that's how they are May you find a friend tonight May he finally treat you right Can you find that same moon I've been singin' to all night? Can you find that same moon Shinin' down on you tonight?
JJ was atrue star of the 60s-70s country hippie outlaw music scene, and still stands as one of the very best!!!! he and Bromberg set new standards...what a treat!!!
May you Rest In Peace tonight, Jackie Jack, tonight and always! Thanks for the pretty songs. You will be missed, but the gifts you’ve given will live on, in eternity.
A lot of the artists in this cicle recorded each other's songs, which gives them such a unique flair. This song was written by Susanna Clark, Guy's wife. Pancho and Lefty was written by Townes Van Zandt, who was best man at Suzanna and Guy's wedding.
This song has been playing in my head for as long as I can remember.

Jerry Jeff, Jerry Garcia and Jimmy Buffett are laughing and trading jokes at the bar right next to the Pearly Gates..

One of my all-time favorite JJW songs! Thanks for sharing!
My favorite Jerry Jeff Walker song
Jackie Jack was my favorite singer when I was a teen. Always hit that sweet spot in my heart. To me, he was one of the Outlaws in country music.
I love this song
Classic JJW
This tune seem familiar? Well, JJ'd just give it to his pals......
Pancho & Lefty? Who wrote that?
Who cares?

All the guys in this circle were super close friends to each other, at least from what my dad told me.
Pancho and Lefty was written by Texas songwriter Townes Van Zandt .
Steve Earle says that Townes Van Zandt once told him, "There's two kinds of music, the blues and zippity doo dah."
DON'T GET NO BETTER. THANK YOU THANK YOU !!
