  • KTM 390 Adventure | It's been almost a year since we learned the much-anticipated KTM 490 Adventure was no longer being considered as a successor to the wildly successful 390 Adventure. With no significant updates to the bike since inception, and facing new competition from India and China, it seems form spy shots that KTM is finally going to produce a successor to the 390 Adventure. - Frank

Yes, I think this is what a lot of people wants. Enough horsepower, good suspension, lightweight and a rally tower where you can put your navigation. It could be a good entry into the KTM world.

Yesterday, I chased the new test mule of the 2025 KTM 390 Adventure here in Chakan, Pune. For the average Indian guy's height, the bike feels tall. My 2022 KTM 390 Adventure felt puny, at least from the side. I couldn't spot tubeless tires with spokes, though. But from what little I could spy on the dash, Cruise Control seems to be inbuilt. Hopefully, they won't put it in the power parts paid upgrade.

@@OneOldManRidingI can’t believe they dropped they redesigned everything and no tubeless. Even if it was optional I would pay the difference. That’s why there is a V1050 in my garage and not a T700.

These changes are a welcome update to a machine I already enjoy immensely. I am in the camp that was hollering for the 21/18 spoked TUBELESS wheels (jury is still out on the tubes, I guess) but I am still pumped. And, I'm still glad I picked up my '22 390 last March as it's given me time to adjust from the '10 990 I'd been riding for the last decade to the much smaller, lighter and flickable 390, as well as the mechanical differences. I have to wonder if the styling is really going to change that much- or were they just trying to disguise the bike? But, I don't have a problem with it either- it's more typical offroad KTM-ish and reminds me of my old 990.
While I am not a hardcore offroader, I buy my ADV's first and foremost to perform best on dirt/gravel/sand and second on the road. I don't need to go 150mph or corner at 45° lean angles anymore, I want to enjoy the backcountry and get away from the noise and crowds, thank you very much. This bike also still allows me to do decent speed on the interstate when I have to, but that is only for an hour or three max, to get to the fun riding!

Nice review, … and I know that KTM 390 ADV riders really want this upgrade. But in the US KTM just reintroduced the 790 S (with down graded suspension), pulling the 890 S off the market, and based on their ads seemingly promoting the 790 S as the base level entry in their ADV line-up. Where an updated 390 ADV fits into their marketing plans, probably only KTM managers know. I hope we see a KTM press release on a significantly upgraded 390 ADV early next summer.

I like the look of the front fairing. Looks like it adds some side panel to the nose. Hopefully that helps with the wind to the chest and head issue. Definitely a better angle on the windscreen too. Also, I really like what you said about the 21" front wheel. It's been asked for, so they are doing it. Personally, I don't want it. Reality is that I'm still doing 80-90% of my riding on tarmac. The 19" front and 17" rear deliver great comfort and fantastic handling. I'm glad I got in before the switch. I wouldn't want to give up the super fun road performance for better off road when the reality is that I just do way more riding on-road.

Hello 5Aerim, fair point about RE. This is CFmotos first foray into the small market. So no previous owners to be listening to. 😉 The RE does not excite me, the weight to power is... Less than ideal. CMoto looks to be knocking it out of the park on their first try. While it's heavy as their bikes tend to be, it looks very well done. I'd be waiting to see what the Kove 800X is like. Claimed 95Hp and 185 kg kerb weight. The current 390 weighs 158 g dry so add on the liquids plus weight for the usual bazooka muffler and you are looking at around 170kg.

Great review, totally agree that people want that smaller 690 enduro R. But you’re missing the main thing where this bike falls short: weight. This new 390 is likely going to be around 360lbs wet which is about the same as the 690. People wanted the smaller lighter 690 that would ultimately replace a drz400 but they arent going to get it here. This bike is just as big and just as heavy as a 690. That being said, fingers crossed ktm has a 390 enduro R in the works.

Unless I’m missing something, the 390 adventure comes in wet at 177kg, which this bike is based on, and the 690 is 150kg… unless you’re short of stature, there’s no need to look at this new bike. At all.
