God I hope so.
I knew he was using that unique picking/strumming since Yesterday but I've never seen it broken down so intricately, well done sir.
Glad you liked it!
You are my teacher! Your videos are always helpful. My friend and I always call you “Sensei” which means Teacher in Japanese. ☺️
The Beatles forever!
I've played this song for almost 30 years now and it has morphed and changed over time from a basic beginners version into something that is my own way, I've even added a few extra additions here and there. I learned it by ear from the record originally and you would always meet other guitarists who played it in a slightly different way adding to the confusion about what the strumming hand was actually doing. I looked it up a few years ago and found a video of Paul where I could just about see his hand. Even though my own finger picking part is technically more complicated I find Paul's way actually more difficult with the "strumming first finger".
I agree - Paul says he can’t do “proper” fingerpicking - travis style - but I agree that I find his one finger strum more difficult for me to do. I’ve seen it done well Paul style by another you tuber - I forget who though - but this one here is very good. sounds just like Paul himself. I’ll have to give it another go.
TLDR: I learned to play the song my way; probably as Paul intended
@@yensilluap Apparently Dylan showed the Beatles one fingerpicking pattern as their introduction to it (I can't remember which one or which Beatle)
@@nicknewman7848 Havdnt heard that before. I know Donovan taught John Lennon Travis style picking when they were in India. Paul said he tried it but it was too much work and he couldn’t be bothered.
Bob at one time was an amazing guitarist.@@nicknewman7848
Grazie infinite!

You are the best, I mean the very best Beatles music teacher ever! Thank you so much for opening my eyes and my heart to this beautiful Beatles music.
I worked Blackbird out myself years ago, and I used a claw hammer type of finger picking. I was blissfully content in my ignorance and thought I was right, which I wasn't. I'm classically trained to diploma level and strumming with the index finger is something that was essentially beaten out of me, discouraged, forbidden, so I always used P, I & M, incorrectly it appears. Thanks for sharing that insight
I just got to see Paul McCartney live in LA he performed blackbird such a great song
Nice one! Probably the most thorough examination of this tune on the net.
WOW! What an analisys of Blackbird. The funny thing is that I learned that song almost 40 years ago, and I still have to learn it again!
No internet back then, we where young boys with an LP, a record player and a lot of desire to be able to play the song. It was fun and fashinating, but I'm so glad that now someone like you point out how many mistakes I did back then!
Keep going!
Likewise, picked it up around 1982 or 1982, and I keep coming back to it with improvements …
I have noticed too that all tutorials o UA-cam are wrong about how to play Blackbird. I recorded that song too trying to make it as close to the original Hope you like it. Find it in my channel. Greetings, Galeazzo.
Just went to your page and played your version. Very nice technique! good cover
I love your videos! I have found so many useful parts for myself and my students at school. Keep the up the goodness!
You're 100% right! I've been playing it like this forever and arguing for years with everyone playing it wrong. I think this confusion started because of a bad transcription where the fingerpicking pattern turned into some arpeggiated arrangement, losing the countryish percussion role that the index finger plays. Great video!
Really well explained, so much right hand control, or for Paul left hand control
Oh damn waddup Leo
I subscribed aaaaages ago when I found your awesome Strat setup videos and I love how the channel has evolved. Keep it up!!
Impressionante la tua precisione nel riprodurre fedelmente ogni singola nota, sfumatura, intenzione..solo complimenti....sei un grande. 👏🏻👏🏻
Thank you Galeazzo, your videos are great!
Wow! Just amazing. I always knew there was something not right in so many interpretations on line, and that was it.
I lost over 100 Guitar World Mags in the Tubbs Fire in Santa Rosa in 2017. A long lost girlfriend went on a mission to help me find more guitar mags. Some how she found a guy on Facebook who had tons of them. He gave them to me. Come to find out he does music fir Lucius Ranch. We met and I got 5 crates of guitar World mags. When I got home and open up. The fist mag had tabs to Black Bird. My Holy Grail of songs to learn. That was 2018. Jumped right on it. Beautiful Song. And to think Charlie Manson tried to created Armageddon from it. I was living in L.A. at that time. Song has a lot memories with me.
I think this is a bass player thing! I play bass and noticed that I was using this same technique on bass and guitar without ever noticing Paul doing it. Sting also uses a similar style on bass and guitar.
Thank you for this! So many mediocre transcriptions out there but this tutorial was very true to their performance
Glad you enjoyed it!
Excellent! Thanks for sharing.
Galeazzo.......good work...practical application...not alot of talking best thing.....most appreciative...thanks for sharing
You nailed it. It's the first one that is 100% spot on.
Great work!
Il migliore come sempre
Its a real helpfull video, thanks a lot.
Molto grazie, Galiazzo!
Thank you so much!
Your channel is brilliant
Beautiful
Thank you
Thanks for the video it brought me back! When I was learning guitar in high school this was one of the first finger picking songs I learned. I learned it from a tab, so I was just picking every note. When I showed my buddy what I had learned, he showed me how to strum it correctly because his guitar teacher had just taught him. As far as where that guitar teacher learned it? He must have just had an ear for it. What's funny now is 16 years later I play most finger picking songs more like Blackbird rather than picking all the notes.
fantastic!
Great video!
Pure Genius, Pure Music, Pure singing.
Thank you for this video ! I actually had a discussion about this with a fellow teacher who was rather picking than strumming. So I got the right hand pretty right when doing this song by ear about 30 years ago before the internet era. I have my own way for the left hand though which I like and never seen someone play it like me. It's not the way Paul plays it though. I'll make a little video of it and show it to world :) Keep up the good work !
Paul asked the audience at his got back concert who tried to learn black bird, a lot of people raised their hands and Paul said you all got it wrong😂
Yes I remember that :)
Yep. And it kind of pissed me off. haha. I thought I knew it.
@@billmiller520 Me too, it’s harder than it appears.
He did?! That’s hilarious! 😂
@@polytheneprentiss1534 Yes it’s on UA-cam:)
love it, it's how I have tried to play it for years, but I struggle to get the strum bit right(it's an age thing.... I'm old)
Good job! 👍
So schön gemacht. Lg from Germany, beatles Fan Ellen 😍
BOOM! Perfection! Paul would approve I am sure! :)
Excelent !!..Thank's. !
I'm happy, because I've been playing it right!
Great job Galeazzo! I first got to know your work on a vocal training video for "Mr. Moonlight," a very underrated song I've always liked. Great job on that one too! This song brings back memories! A friend taught it to me in early 1969,
super you're the best ! BENOIT from Paris
Damn. You nailed it.
Thank you. I've never managed to play this correctly - until now.
Would love to see you do a harmony video on dedicated to the one I love by the mamas and papas!
Galeazzo, te voy pillando. Galeazzo muy bien, moltó bene e grazie.
Nice channel!
Clever strum...no wonder Ringo choose drum rather than guitar✌...btw you're great teacher sir..👍🙏
No matter how many videos I see, I can't for the life of me do this "claw" picking technique lol, I always do a hybrid of conventional finger picking with a percussive down strum using my index and middle fingers. Good explanation on what he does though, I think John Mayer sometimes use a similar technique in some songs.
Paul McCartney, James Taylor: it's because we're both self taught
Is there a specific tab you use? The ones online tend to vary.
I think it might have appeared in Guitar World or Guitar World Acoustic once, but I can't remember which issue.
GooD)))))))
Good! Morning! Music.
👏👏👏
Thanks I learned it wrong... now I know it right..
Very, very well done on the "correct" way to pick and strum this tune. I've seen Paul 7 times and he played this tune each time...beginning with 1976 "Wings Over America" tour. I either read it or heard Paul on a video say he actually uses a fake fingernail (I believe the index finger) because while on tour he will physically wear out that nail...because of how he strums "Blackbird."
Let’s give credit where credit is due. The “strumming” technique utilized here is known as the “Carter Brush Stroke” created by mother Maybelle Carter of The Carter Family. I’m sure that’s where Paul picked it up. She used the Brush Stroke technique in her songs in the earliest years of country music, many times the technique is clearly visible in UA-cam videos of her picking.
I'm a fan of the Beatles.
👏👏👏👍🎹
You're such a GENIUS ~ and your analysis is spot on. Thank you so much 😊
You are so welcome
Galleazzo.... Any tutorial on goeoge finger style!
Which song Jorge?
por favor subtitulado en español!!!!!! 🙏
Si se puede, te vas a subtitulos y te vas a traducción automática y le pones en español y ahí ya está :)
@@mabelmccartney1449 Mil Gracias!!!!! no lo sabía 👌👏👏
And don't forget tapping both left and right foot same time!
When you pluck the two strings it’s called a “pinch”.
Thank you sometimes these english terms are quite odd to find :)
@@TheBeatlesVocalHarmony English can be weird sometimes if not outright baffling! Lol (You’re welcome! And thanks for this lesson! Most appreciated)
2000 M guitarists in this world playing Blackbird, 2000 M ways of doing it differently. There is even an Apple video of MacCartney playing it at the time, and then another video from the eighties, he saying that this came from the Bach's Bouree and other bullshit (it doesn't, and the real thing, the open G string, is never used nor mentioned by anybody). Of course, both MacCa video versions were different, and also different from the white album recording.
Thanks for your videos, Galeazzo, you say interesting things.
Thank you glad you find it interesting :)
Please do one on Her Majesty.
Coming soon but that's incredibly tough to play as he did.
@@TheBeatlesVocalHarmony I know!
yes! That would be sweet
Chow!
I play a shit version of this, it's lovely to hear it played better than I'll ever learn.
Follow the bass line.

Why not with a tab... 🥴🥴🥴🥴
I thought the notes he plucked between the strums were kinda forceful.
