    Great stuff there, Pete. And I am glad that I have some of the records that you showed (for example, Magma, Gong and Caravan). Prog Rock is not my primary genre, but I do like it and I have been listening more and more to it (and buying records...off course) the last couple of years. Cheers.

    Hi Pete! Great choices, great video. I considered showing Soft Machine Third for the Album with Four Songs question. I almost chose Land of Grey & Pink for the Band from the UK, but I decided to go with If I Could... just so I could show off the autograph. A Coda AND an Epilog? Now THAT'S prog! Cheers!

    Fantastic showing Pete! Absolutely loved this. I watched it twice once last night and now again this morning. I'd say about 100x's better than the job I did. Nice touch with the movements, coda, and epilog. I took lots of notes because you hit on many I wasn't all too familiar with. I have to say your answer to the concept album was absolutely Brilliant! A concept that spans a discography. I never knew that about Magma because I've not really listened to them all but one album. Now I need to make it a point to diving in to them. That Vertigo Mixed recording sounds incredibly interesting. I have to check that one out. I'll also be checking out Trace, never heard of them before. As well as, Catherine Ribeiro + Alpes, Glenn Branca and Regal Worm. I found Regal Worm on bandcamp so I'll be making a point to listen to Pig Views today. I'm looking forward to that. It's not likely that I'll ever come across Achim Reichel but if I ever do I now know what I could send you as VCLT. Thanks so much for jumping on this although I know you were already working on your own. I really loved this! You're the best! Take care!

      You watched it twice Bill!!! 😲 You must be a sucker for punishment 😂. Good luck with the dive into the Magma catalogue - they are definitely not for everyone, but if you get them then you tend to become a fanatic (like me). Trace I think you'll really like - especially if you like ELP and The Nice - check out their precursor Ekseption too. Alpes will depend on whether you like Catherine's voice or not. Glenn Branca will be dependant upon your tolerance for repetition and noise (I think Sonic Youth and Thurston Moore were big fans). Regal Worm are another I think you'll like. Diana, the German lady from the VC, found an inexpensive copy of Achim Reichel's Echo in a record fair 3 or 4 years ago, so miracles can happen! Thank you ever so much for setting this up Bill, I so enjoyed doing it. And it's good to see that other people are jumping on it too. I think if I'd have initiated it then probably no one would have followed up on it - it took someone of your stature in the VC to do it. Hope you have a really good week - I've got the next local record fair on Saturday - love me some crate digging! Take care, Pete PS I was so disappointed that I didn't get any Italian prog in there (especially being Italian myself).

      @@soundsfromthewestcoast9939 good luck at the record fair! I hope you find many great ones! The shame of things really, Pete, is that I currently have no Italian prog in my collection. I'm familiar with PFM and Le Orme but don't own anything and don't really know any other bands out of Italy. And with Richard's response he's opened my eyes to all of that wonderful Scandinavian prog. I can't wait to see what you find at the record fair!

    Hey Peter! I've been looking forward to your response to this tag! Focus is still a band that I need to properly check out. You've mentioned them a handful of times. Next time I see that album in the wild, I'm 100% picking it up! I've seen that Aphrodite's Child record around in the vinyl community but never have actually sampled it. Going to have to go do that. Of course you had to throw the Grateful Dead in here :) ... I LOVE Close To The Edge! I do enjoy what I've heard from King Crimson but I haven't listened to "Larks'" yet, so I'm putting that on my listening list too. Magma ... another band you mention often! Fantastic response ... I definitely learned a lot more about the progressive rock genre. Can't wait to sample some of these. Awesome job.

    • @soundsfromthewestcoast9939
      @soundsfromthewestcoast9939  3 роки тому

      Thanks for watching Emma. I think you stand a good chance of liking Focus, especially as they were produced by Mike Vernon the celebrated blues producer (though the music has nothing to do with the blues). Definitely had to throw the Dead in there, they are to me what Cheap Trick are to you 😁. So glad to hear that you love CttE. King Crimson sound different with each incarnation of the band so not liking one album doesn't mean you'll dislike one from a different period in the band's history (and vice versa). I'm always a little wary of recommending Magma to someone as they are definitely not for everyone, so check them out on youtube first! Have a great week, Pete.

    That's some amazing stuff. I knew probably half of it, but not all by heart. I remember "Terrapin Station" from my childhood; I should listen to it again. I like AWBH. It has a nice, exciting sound. I don't like all the tracks, but I agree, it's better than Big Generator by a mile. I saw Yes live two years later during the "Union"-tour. And "Magma" is so fascinating. I have hardly scratched the surface of this band's universe. I am also quite fascinated by Giorgio Gomelsky, who kickstarted a few of my favourite outfits. I wish there was a biographical book about him. Magma will certainly occupy my mind in the next years. That's quite a given. The original Gong has grown on me in the last months. I had prefered for years the rather jazzy version of the band by Pierre Moerlen. But this year I have listened to "You" a lot, which become one of my favourite albums.

    • @soundsfromthewestcoast9939
      @soundsfromthewestcoast9939  3 роки тому

      Thanjs Ales. I envy your coming journey through the world if Magma - one if my favourites of all time. I obviously approached Gong from the other direction, but I do really like the Moerlen led band. You Is my 2nd favourite album, and probably, to my mind, their most musically accomplished. Cheers, Pete

    Hi Pete. I’ve been busy lately and now have a load of VC videos to catch up on. But this one was a top priority as I knew you’d do a great job, which you have! Thanks for the info on the Magma sagas. I still only have Kohntarkosz on vinyl and have been waiting for a vinyl copy of M.D.K coming from Germany for weeks and weeks now. Well done on showing Bruford from several decades and I agree Peter Hammill is a giant, though as you said his vocals divide opinion. By the way I just read another comment and I think your voice sounds perfectly clear. Now to catch up with your Folk tag! Take care, John.

      Hi John, thanks for taking the time out you watch this long (winded) video!. I take it that if you've ordered MDK then you must have liked Kohntarkosz - hope it arrives soon. Glad to know the sound quality on the video was OK - might be something to do with the device the video is watched on too? I know that when I check one out on my PC the sound is muffled a little bit compared to when watching on the TV. Hope you enjoy the Folk one too. Got the next Kendal record fair coming up this Saturday - looking forward to it, there's nothing quite like a spot of crate digging! All the best, Pete.

    Hi Pete, Wow, what a video. How can I not do this one too. I'll put my thinking head on and see what I can put together. You showed some amazing records here. My eyes popped out at your Magma set. I've always been quite intimidated by them and your description of that concept spread so far has done nothing to diminish that. I have a CD Box set by them but have never been brave enough to even play it. Regal Worm seem interesting. I don't understand how I have missed them until now. Cheers. Oh, by the way did you see the message I wrote to both you and Richard in the comments of his recent video?

    • @soundsfromthewestcoast9939
      @soundsfromthewestcoast9939  3 роки тому

      Please do this one John - would love to see your own take on it. I can totally understand being daunted by the Magma catalogue - not something to be tackled lightly! Regal worm don't seem to be known by many - can't remember now how I first came across them, but they are definitely worth checking out. Is that the message where you admit to be too cowardly to watch my krautrock videos 🤣? Hope you have a good week. Pete.
