    Hello and good evening Pete. Nice to see you again. Quick question. Did you say the band's name on the Deep Purple Funky Junction album is called Hard Stuff? I take it that Funky Junction must be the label? It sounds pretty cool. Interesting how the Allman Bros released a newer Fillmore West fifty years after they released Fillmore East. I think that show may have been released on bootlegs. I also liked the sound of the Eternal Tapestry album. You showed quite a few artists that were new to me. I always appreciate getting tuned into or onto new music. You never fail to deliver the goods Pete. Thank you and have a wonderful week~
    Rob/Boston

      Hi Rob, no the band name is Funky Junction, the label just stuck a photo of a totally unrelated band called Hard Stuff on the cover for some reason. These sort of albums were pure exploitation and the labels were not bothered with verisimilitude just what looked good! The Allman Brothers Fillmore West show was originally on a CD box set I understand. Eternal Tapestry are well worth you investigating - you'll probably have more luck finding them in the States than over here. Have a great week yourself... Pete

    Hello Pete. Found those Hollies albums intriguing. You’d never find those here, the greatest hits seem to be the only album that is quite easy to find. I picked up Illusion’s first album in Amsterdam for a fiver, very enjoyable. Those sealed records at those prices were steals. Love Lucinda. Great needle drops. Pleasure to watch this, a great respite from all the RSD videos being dropped. Cheers.

      Hi Jack, it's been pretty similar over here in that usually you only find comps by The Hollies. I think they must have come from one collection. If you liked the first Illusion album then you stand a very good chance of liking the 2nd. I'm going to have to try more by Lucinda Williams as I enjoyed this one. Cheers...Pete

    Pete, did not recognize that Hollies - Confessions of the Mind until I figured out that it was called "Moving Finger" in the US. The Hollies Sing Hollies is the only one of yours that has no US equivalent. I recently picked up a 12' maxi-single from Zoolook. I have many Howard Riley releases, including that one, and generally like everything he does. Still have a few to track down. I have the Lucinda Williams album that contains Faith & Grace, but have not heard that EP. Don't have any Mike Cooper. I have some Ozrics, but have not heard this Ed Wynne album. All of your pick-ups seem interesting, even the ones I don't know anything about. Thanks, Chris

      Hi Chris, the different UK and US versions of albums from the 60s with differing titles, sleeves and sometimes content, can get confusing at times. As I said I was pretty surprised at liking the Howard Riley as free jazz can be a bit hit and miss for me. Getting the Lucinda Williams has made me want to go back and investigate her albums further. The early Mike Cooper albums I think are worth getting, I've not heard any of his experimental / avant-garde albums that he did for so many years so can't comment on those. If you like the Ozrics you'll like the Ed Wynne I think. Thanks for watching and commenting.... Pete

    Hi Pete, I enjoy early Manfred Mann. Paul Jones is a great singer. Have you ever heard him in his band called The Blues Band? They did some very energetic blues music. I've got lots of compilations by The Hollies but never see their studio albums. Funky Junction is quite a cool find. I've got two copies. I read about it in Classic Rock magazine years ago and then found a copy in a charity shop almost the next day. It's quite a conversation piece. That Howard Riley record would make me unpopular if I played it at home. Illusion sound great. I've heard of them but not heard them. They sound very symphonic. I'm listening to this with my headphones and have noticed your clock ticking in your room. Sounds very relaxing.

      Hi John, agree about Paul Jones. I used to really like the Blues Band in the early 80s. Just looked them up on Wikipedia and was surprised to see that they released over 20 albums up until 2022! The Hollies , like a lot of the 60s bands are well served by compilations, and those are what you usually see out in the wild. They had the Hollies Sing Dylan album too at the fair - if it's still there in aa couple of weeks I'll likely pick it up. The Funky Junction album is really enjoyable for what it is. I wouldn't recommend playing the Howard Riley at home unless you want to clear the house! I think you'd like the two Illusion albums. Have you heard the first two pre Annie Haslem Renaissance albums - if not you'd probably like them too.
      I couldn't believe how loud the ticking of my clock was when I first got it home, but now I've got so used to it that I don't really notice it 😁. Have a great week... Pete

      @@soundsfromthewestcoast9939 I have the first Renaissance album. I think in my mind it sits together in a set of records that came about as a result of the dissolution of the Yardbirds. That set includes the Roger the Engineer and the final Yardbirds record Little Games, The first Led Zep album and also Jeff Beck's Truth. I enjoy hearing the direction and developments that I think you can hear in those records.

    Hi Pete - I've tried several Hollies albums over the years but never those three and all needle drops were great. I'll keep an eye out for those. Illusion sounded good too. Lucinda William's 'Car Wheels on a Gravel Road' is a favourite of mine. Plankton Wat sounded nice. Cheers Dale

      @soundsfromthewestcoast9939  6 місяців тому

      Thanks Dale. Are there any Hollies albums you'd recommend I keep an eye out for? I think Car Wheels was the album by Lucinda Williams that I heard quite a while back - remember it being pretty good. Cheers...Pete

    Great to see a new video from you, Pete.
    I don’t have any Hollies on vinyl but the psychedelic ones don’t seem to ever show up. I thought the second needle drop sounded really good, despite the horrendous shirts!
    Wasn’t aware of Illusion, though I’ve been getting into Renaissance lately. I see the album you showed is on Island.
    Some discogs bargains there, for sure. Eternal Tapestry sounded rather nice, as did Plankton Wat. Take care, John.

      Thanks for taking the endurance test John, I just can't seem to produce short videos! I'm really surprised that it's taken this long for me to hear a Hollies album in full. They had the Sings Dylan album there too, may pick it up if it's still there in 2 weeks time.
      ET and PW are definitely worth checking out if you can find them.
      Hope you have a good week - weather has improved if still a bit chilly.... Pete

    Hi Pete, nice picks, I liked the Hollies clips quite a lot, the band as name is really familiar but never have familiarized myself with music properly. I have a lot downloads by Tapestry, great psychjams, and even earlier Plankton Wat i might have. I was 10-15 years ago in some kind of download madness, i got bored with buying cd, but was not so keen into vinyls yet. Some good Cooper lp would be nice to find, never seen one, i reckon he has made later also quite experimental or ambient stuff. Greetings.-petri.

      Hi Petri, I was only aware of the Hollies hit singles which I liked but had never listened to a full album - I was surprised by the quality of those albums. I too went through a big downloading period around the same time as you, and I think I may still have a lot of ET and PW downloads somewhere (most of which I probably never fully listened to as I was downloading so much at the time. I've never heard any of Mike Cooper's experimental / avant-garde albums - in fact I've never even seen any of them so don't know what they are like. His early albums though are worth investigating. Cheers... Pete

    Hi Pete, Behind on videos again.. I love that Jarre track you played, but not overly familiar with the album. I think it is on a live album as well. Had never caught that Belew was involved. Made to Measure sounds interesting. I have been doing a fair amount of field recording based listening as of late among other with Llyn Y Cwn out of Wales. Eternal Tapestry is new to me and that sounds very interesting. Got some Duul guitar vibes. Have to check them out. Many interesting pickups. Take care, Richard

    • @soundsfromthewestcoast9939
      @soundsfromthewestcoast9939  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi Richard, how are you doing? The Jarre track is not on the Live In China album as that was a couple of years prior - has he done another live album? Llyn Y Cwn? Will need to check out. I think you'd like Eternal Tapestry - and you'd probably find it easier to obtain their stuff over there. All the best... Pete

      @soundsfromthewestcoast9939 How are you? There has been a lot of work here taking much energy. I want to say I had a Live in Houston tape in my teens. Online I see a Houston/ Lyon combined album with Ethnicolor on it, but I think it is a Lyon version. I wonder if it morphed over the years. Jarre and Oldfield were big favorites of mine as I hit double digits abouts. Cheers, Richard

    Nice picks Pete
    Those Hollies albums look like decent pick ups.
    Butterfly is a good album, and probably their most ' Psychedelic 'I think that was the last Graham Nash record before he left.
    Funky Junction sounds decent.
    Zoolook is a decent album , very 80s in its' aesthetic but a unique listen and as you said very different to what he did before..there's a UA-cam video of him in the studio around the time of its' recording where he's being interviewed.( back soon!).
    Watching this in 2 halves!!
    You did well to snag those minty and sealed records for such a steal.
    The Lucinda Williams has a great spacey vibe to it, quite liked that.
    The Made to Measure is certainly very spooky and atmospheric, great soundtrack music.
    I never explored The Ozrics' but I seem to recall what I heard being quite Steve Hillage like.
    Have a great week.

    • @soundsfromthewestcoast9939
      @soundsfromthewestcoast9939  6 місяців тому +1

      Thanks Rob, I don't know why it's taken so long for me to investigate the Hollies albums, those 3 were really enjoyable. Will definitely keep an eye out for Butterfly.
      For a cheap exploitation album the Funky Junction has no reason to be as good as it is.
      I think I have to give Zoolook a few more listens to fully appreciate it. I don't blame you for watching this in 2 sessions when you could be listening to a full album instead, but thanks for seeing it out.
      I must admit I was a bit suspicious when I first saw the prices from this seller, but decided to take the plunge and they turned out OK.
      I was impressed with the Lucinda Williams. Her voice seems to have aged quite a bit from what I remember of her.
      Michael Dawson says that the Made To Measure series of albums are all pretty good so I'll have to investigate further.
      The Ozrics definitely have that Hillage / Gong vibe about them, so if you like Hillage you stand a good chance of liking the Ozrics.
      All the very best... Pete

    Well that was alot of fun (Gumby!) Pete you got bargains galore here I like ambient generally meandering going nowhere music sometimes though less Windham hill more from a less musical background. The JMJ is a weird one but I like it too very world music IMO.
    Funky Junction in a pub yes maybe not to listen to so much at home. Fascinating story behind it isn't it. That's half of what it's about for me. I probably mentioned before my mum's cousin was in Blodwyn 🐷 pig. I like them. Smith & Jones made a joke 'i did the rig for the big pig gig' he still lives very near me though not in contact with him. He's a bit of an old hippie apparently more new age these days. Take care and hope the summer kicks in soon. With all that water up there does it lessen the pollen count?
    Regards, Martin.

      @soundsfromthewestcoast9939  5 місяців тому +1

      Hi Martin, thanks for watching, and I'm glad you found something you liked. I'm with you on ambient music - not so keen if it's too 'pretty'. The JMJ was just initially a shock as its so different from his other albums. I wouldn't have bought the Funky Junction album but for the pedigree of the musicians involved. Interesting to here your familial involvement in Blodwyn Pig (excellent band). Today is actually a nice day, quite warm, but the way things go here we never have two days the same so expecting it to rain tomorrow! Thankfully I don't suffer from hay fever so I don't track the pollen count.
      All the very best... Pete

    The Nova Materia LP was a great score. I would snag anything on that Made to Measure imprint. I'm amazed by how unfamiliar I am with the British Hollies discography: I don't recognize any of those albums.

    • @soundsfromthewestcoast9939
      @soundsfromthewestcoast9939  6 місяців тому

      I know that the Hollies like many UK bands in the 60s had different versions of their albums in the US with differing titles, covers and even contents so maybe those are the ones you're more familiar with Michael. I'll definitely have to have a look at what else is available in the Made To Measure series - there must be quite a bit as the Nova Materia is volume 45! Cheers... Pete

    I always liked that Funky Junction album. I had an original before anyone knew who was on it.
    I had the Mort Garson too. I love early electronica. I wonder if it ever came out on CD?
    I never really liked Jarre, but that one sounds vaguely interesting.
    Howard Riley was evidently a big name in British jazz who passed me by.
    I always preferred the original Renaissance. If I remember rightly, there was a guy who appeared on the second album, which was called Illusion, who was the only person to go on to the Annie Haslam version.
    I need to find that Lucinda Williams, and the Mike Cooper stuff, not to mention a couple of those Hollies albums that I don't have.
    I have several Eternal Tapestry albums, but I wasn't even aware of Plankton Wat.
    Pretty much everything else sounded good to me, as is usual for you.

    • @soundsfromthewestcoast9939
      @soundsfromthewestcoast9939  6 місяців тому +1

      Hi Dave, Electronic Hair Pieces only came out on vinyl, cassette and 8 track I'm afraid according to Discogs.
      I was initially very sniffy about Jarre - too simplistic and commercial - but I've gotten to appreciate his stuff over time.
      Howard Riley has had a long career from his first album in 1971 until the present day, both solo and with others like Keith Tippett.
      It was the guitarist Michael Dunford who bridged the two versions of Renaissance. The recording of the 2nd album Illusion seems to have been extremely complicated with original members leaving and rejoining, and various other musicians being brought in to help complete the album.
      I have some codes to send you soon one of which is the Plankton Wat album.
      Hope you are doing well... Pete
