Ok. So I've been in the military for 29 years. I'm a DIY guy and this is hands down, the best UA-cam video out there. No rambling, clear, concise, to the point, super knowledgeable, right use of terms, unbelievable use of training aids......Nothing more to add.
I have never listened to or watched a more concise...accurate...and complete explanation and video regarding actions needed for a mechanical fix. You walked through each and every necessary move while narrating it perfectly. . I have subscribed and will use your site in the future whenever I need a "fix". Thank you so much.
I don't usually comment on these videos, but I must say This was super good. Thank you for posting this. I've got a bad upper ball joint and was scratching my head how the axel comes out. Again thank You!! Edit... My darn vaccum and axel did not come out as easy as yours!! cut my behind, but at least I felt confident how it is supposed to come out.
Great tutorial. To be "clear": Super 60 can be referring to any Ford Dana 60 post 2005 in all of these axles, depending on who is talking. BUT the "Wide Track" or "Fat Boy" is the real Super 60. Only came in a few F350 duallies for limited years (2008 to 2010) and all F450 and F550 from 2005 on. To make things worse the naming conventions get all mixed up when sourcing bearings, seals and U joints. Just did all of this. Great fun, multiple part returns, none of the fitment charts work etc. different spline count, stouter parts, same drag links, shocks are different, different U joints, same track bar. It's a mess. You want the real Super 60 if you are doing any conversion. I can turn a 84" cab to axle F450 tighter than a short bed f350 now.
@@moejr14 Yes check the stamp plate for model and look it up. Can't mistake them. The tubes are much thicker, brakes and u joints are huge. Best bet is see what truck it came with. Check the axle code on the door jam. F450, F550 2005 on and some select F350 dually (rare trucks).
No, Ford 'Super Duty' 60 does not mean 'Super 60' they are very different, ask the manufacturer: Dana, they don't think they are the same. f350-f450 dual rear wheels only had them in 4.33 and higher. post 2005 f550 and higher had them united electric info is mostly wrong. (aka pirate)
very informative video. Even a novice could do it per your video!! Well done! :) P.S. I miss and prefer spindle nuts and normal lock outs with inner and outer bearings.
Regarding the U-joint. While the axle is out try greasing the joint. If grease doesn't come out of all 4 cups replace it. I would probably replace it with a new one anyway as they are not very costly for a quality part.
There is a wide yoke and narrow yoke for the ujoints 4 1/2" or 5" make sure you order the proper ujoint!!! And there is a specific tool to install the knuckle seal. You don't want to buy them twice.
Good video! Very informative, I determined my inner axle seal is leaking as I can see oil leaking out of the outer. How long can a guy run a truck like that? Also, subscribed!
Hi anyone knows if rockauto sold a all seals(vacuum seals!!) in and out because I replaced a all bail joints and I need replaced that seals! And a bolt on top of the hub! for connecting a vacuum hose! VENTURES sold that seals? Thanks fellas great vedeo 👏👌👍
Before the axle is pulled out do I need to empty the center gear box first? I need to help my son fix his F350. the passenger shaft is now missing the dust shield. I can turn the shaft by hand and shake up and down,.
Reat video. Does anyone ever change just the bearing in the wheel hubs? Ford sells the separately but it seems everyone just changes the entire hub assembly.
Do you have a brand of O Ring snap pliars that you recomend for this? None of mine seem to be long enough to reach back in there and the ones that are dont seem to be strong enough to complete the task.
So ford uses the same axle from 05 on up? Basically I'm looking for a salvage front axle for my 2015 f350 and cant seem to figure out which years will fit
So much damned confusion on O-rings and nomenclature. I have a 2006 F450 with the REAL Super 60 "Wide Track" and manual locking hubs. It's been three straight days chasing part numbers for seals and O-rings. From what I can tell the spline shaft between the Super 60 and the "WIDE TRACK SUPER 60" is the same but the spline count is different. So, all the seals should be the same? I got the yellow O-rings (yours are orange, ugh) for the manual hubs and now I see there is a mystery black one too for Vacuum? Is that black O ring on the manual locking ones? Wide Track? Ugh.
What truck should I be looking for that would have 5.38 gears from the factory? I need single wheel non dually. I thought super 60s were 10 lug, but this one seems to be 8x170 single wheel...What gives?
Hi Dennis i have a pair of snap on that i use it does the job but its hell getting the snap ring off and on and i was looking for some longer reach pliers any luck finding the part number that the guy in the video is using Thanks.
Hello, I have an 06 f250 with this axle. I found the schematics online and it shows there is a thrust washer, but I did not notice it in the video. Does this model have one or not? thank you

Great video. Love it when a guy knows what he's talking about and gets straight to work.
One of the best and most detailed tear down videos I've ever seen. Thank you!
Glad it was helpful!
Dude!!! You just saved my life and my truck thank you!!
Glad we could help!
Teacher. You are a Real Teacher bro.
Badass video! Very informative and detailed 👍🏻 Best tear down video I've ever seen.
Great video!! Well done.
These seals are the reason that I bought an XL with a manual transfer case shift and manual hubs.
All trim levels still use the seals to "seal" out water and contaminants. Just an FYI for anyone reading comments.
I've done this job several times, but that was a very good breakdown of the job.

Do you have parts numbers for all the seals and o rings
I have a 2020 450 with a bent driver side axle tube. Will a 2012 450 axle assembly fit even if I have to swap gears over?
Great video helped a lot. Lol i just need a bigger pry bar and ill be good.
Good video! Can you help me. With inspection front and rear axles? I have sounds. Thanks.
In what state you?
Great job!
The hose going into the knuckle was the cause of my vacuum leak.

Haha oh there’s supposed to be a snap ring? I just have rust lol
great video, how about an intaling video
Bro that snap ring is a nightmare 😭 I'm trying to remove mine now on second set of pliers
Getting it back on is even worse
@@jessealbrecht5970 your crazy lmao get the homedepot husky pliers they worked great for me
Are all hubs/unit bearings the same from 2005-2016? I understand that the abs sensors are the only difference. Can you confirmV

We have a pair of Mac Tools that work. They are older and I do not know if they carry them anymore. Part Number TP26
where did you get those pliers the long reach one?
Amazon
It's there supposed to be an outer axle shaft seal behind that plastic dust shield?

This is a great video. My diff fluid is leaking out my passenger side of my front axle. How do you set the inner tube seal? Thank you.
Axel shaft seal installer
Does that year not have the outer shaft thrust washer behind the hub assembly? Looked like it was missing in the video.
That is correct. This axle Design starting in 2005 does not use thrust washers.
So ford uses the same axle from 05 on up? Basically I'm looking for a salvage front axle for my 2015 f350 and cant seem to figure out which years will fit
Any 05-16 will. The brakes changed in 2012 though. So size and rotors are different so be advised there. Other than that, the rest is identical

Does the 2006 not have needle bearings on inboard side of hub to support the axle?
They updated the design and it is now a sealed bearing.
@@VenturesTruckParts so the sealed bearing can still be changed like the needle bearing style?
@@matthewrodrigues2637 Yes that is correct. The sealed ball bearing can be replaced.
Nice video but getting that rotor and hub off isn’t easy your gonna need a BFG
I have play in the knuckles between the dust seal on the axle housing and vacuum seal. What do you suspect is at fault?
U-Joint ?

Please tell me what brand or who makes those snap ring pliers.

what number is on snap ring plyers, i bought 4 different pair none work big set bent.

How do you know if you have a Super 60 or just a Dana 60 from a Superduty Diesel ?
2005 and newer trucks refer to the front axle as a Super 60. Previous years are referred to as a Dana 60
Similar for a 'Super 60' axle, as opposed to a 'super duty' axle
