    Former Army Veteran. OEF/OFS. Plan on Reenlisting in this Rate within the Reserve for the Navy. We called it MOS in the Army.
    Scored a 39 on the ASVAB. (It’s been a long time. Since 2015 when I last took it) Hopefully I qualified for the job. Recruiter said everything looked good. Haven’t reviewed jobs yet. Waiting on confirmation if Med Waivers will be granted.
    It was refreshing to see Basic Training is waived for prior other service. They and the Air Force have a lot of veteran friendly prior service programs. Not sure if you got the opportunity to see or work with prior service from other branch’s. Looking forward to the opportunity if everything goes well.
    Excellent video and insight.

    • @HaedenBeck
      @HaedenBeck  6 місяців тому

      A fleet returnee will only go through C school, unless you're crossrating from another rating to MA, then you have to go through the whole thing (A school then C school) same as anyone coming from boot camp. The only difference is if you already went through the OC course in the fleet and are crossrating to MA you can skip being sprayed again, rest is the same.

    What is the availability of Master at Arms contract at MEPS? Is it always available or seasonal? Is it a desirable job that everyone is after. It’s almost impossible to go active MP in the army. While in the Air Force everyone stays away from the security forces job?

    • @HaedenBeck
      @HaedenBeck  8 місяців тому +1

      Air Force SFs seem to get good training, and are actually trained at the same base as us but it's not connected at all, you just see them around. I can't say for sure though, I'm not USAF. If they say MA is not available and you really want it that bad, you can just say call me when it is available.
      MA is probably usually available, but recruiters may try to push another job on you, or try to tell you that being an MA is some kind of riverine special forces program or something - it's not. I'm a gate guard. I can't lie to you. So I hope you don't have misconceptions about how "cool" it will be. It is possible to go from that to other cool stuff, but that's how you'll start.
      A lot of MAs seem to get out after 4 years or change to something else, so if you stay in as an MA you can rank up easy and fast with less competition than other ratings. Best of luck!

      MA does not require a high ASVAB, I'd be surprised if any branch's MPs do. You don't need to be that smart to stand at a gate somewhere scanning IDs. I'd actually recommend another rating if you have a higher ASVAB, unless you really want this job which is easy by comparison to other ratings.

    Too bad they don't give you the same authority as the civilian police officers on the Naval bases. That way you be able to do a little bit more, but I get it, the Navy doesn't want that. They should be sending you guys down to the federal law enforcement Training Center like they do the civilian federal police for the Navy... instead of Lackland. A Navy Captain in DC told a reporter last year they have a lot more powers than MA's. She was saying things like they can pursue people off the installation, make arrests off the installation and they have the authority to do that even though the Navy doesn't like it. They should train you like they do them....

    • @HaedenBeck
      @HaedenBeck  6 місяців тому +1

      It complicates things that MAs are in foreign countries. We wouldn't want German police forces driving crazy and chasing after people in Los Angeles, so I'm not surprised that in most cases we're not allowed to do that in their countries.
      We have full authority on the base and with the assimilative crimes act the local laws merge with ours so we don't have to completely rewrite the law every place we go.
      How MAs perform drastically changes at every command and every type of command, and even how each individual is qualified. I wouldn't want to generalize it too much.

That being said I don't feel my life threatened every day or anything, I'm just a gate guard scanning IDs for now. If you're not great at math, MA might actually be for you since you just have to be good enough to pass the ASVAB and that's the last math you'll ever see.

    Can a E1 to E3 be an MA. I was told you had to be an E4 and above to be an MA. I am hearing from people now being an MA is not precluded by rank.
    My understanding was you had to be an E4 because they did no want non petty officers stopping petty officers. They also wanted people to know about the Navy first.

    • @HaedenBeck
      @HaedenBeck  20 днів тому +1

      So before 9/11 the MA rating was very small and was only E-5s and above. After the attacks the rating was opened up to all ranks/rates and people from other ratings transferred over. For this reason, a lot of MA officers were not only enlisted but also another rating originally like Signalman.
      Nowadays you can join the navy to be an MASR (E-1 MA). That's what I did. As for lower ranks stopping higher ranks, it's no factor. An E-1 MA can stop an officer. Nobody outranks the law, nobody outranks the authority of the commanding officer and the grunts who enforce their directives. There have been MAs who have stopped the CO from entering their own base.
