Great video and brilliant shooting. I have a very old (probably 1901 vintage) side by side which my father bought used, shot for 20 years, and then gave to me. I had it fully restored 10 years ago and it is shot occasionally with light cartridges now.
Great video listening to your memories of your grandad .he would be proud the way you shoot his gun . I have the same sort of memories of my father he taught me all I no .atb
Hello Jaff, I totally agree with you. I have the same thoughts about my father when I am using his gun which I inherited, great story about your past experience.
Hello my friend, It's nice to hear you talk about your younger days and your grandad with such love and fondness. I had a strict upbringing by todays standards. My dad was a shooter, though my twin and I weren't allowed anywhere near guns in any capacity. My brother wasn't bothered, but I was, and it hurt my feelings that I wasn't to be trusted with air rifles. Our much loved father isn't with us now, and I have the air rifles I always wanted. When I'm doing anything with my guns, either outside or at home, I'm always thinking about dad. Thinking what he would do or what he'd be talking about or thinking about. It's nice to think about them and still have them as part of your life. Thank you, Ian.
Your so lucky, I wish I'd had a childhood like that, I've had to fathom all this stuff out for myself with the help of youtube as I've got into it all in my late 40's ! Great vid again, keep them coming 😄
Thank you for sharing. Glad you were able to spend quality time with your grandpa. I was a late "surprise" and both were gone before I was old enough to have memories of them. Hopefully we can have a visit on my next trip over.
I have a similar situation with a gun left to me by my Uncle, it was his wedding present from his wife in 1965 Unfortunately it is not usable any more, but has very deep and fond memories. Great to see you out with your Grandads SxS and shooting well with it.
I a big fan of the side by side with double trigger and is my preferred choice, give me an over and under and I miss more than I hit but give me a side by side and there’s not much I miss at all. It’s all horses for courses and what suits one doesn’t suit another. I was brought up with side by sides, I learned with my uncles side by side hammer 410 then on to my fathers old hammer side by side 16 bore and the 16 bore has been my chosen bore ever since. It’s great when you have something like that to have an afternoon out and reminisce of times gone by and such treasured memories. My brother ended up with all my fathers guns as did he with everything else! But I’d rather have nothing and a clear conscience than pure greed.
Fantastic video jaff we all have fond memories of loved ones but there is something very special about using a gun that was used by them I sometimes wonder if my dads rifle could talk what stories it could tell I find using his rifle feels like he is here with me its probably why I choose to use his rifle on a daily basis 😀 keep up the good work with the films and we must have a day together in the hide
Hello from Northern Ireland. I have had many shotguns over the years, most side by sides I’ve had are like yours, most dealers will tell you they are worthless. If you send me some of the info on the gun, like pictures of the barrel flats I should be able to try and pin point the year of manufacture for you :)
Great film - thanks for taking us with you down memory lane.
That was something very special. It's been kept in great clean condition and it's value is priceless. Thanks for sharing 👍👍
