Just got fitted for Mizuno 923HL and PXG 0211, took them to range along with my old JPX 900s. Both PXG and HL are longer, HL hit higher, longer and better dispersion. Loving these HL irons.
I have G425's. I tested the G430's and thought that while they gained some distance, they lost too much height, spin, and decent angle. After testing the Mizuno 923HL's, I was convinced they were a better choice. Better ball flight, gained distance over the G425's, and feel better on mishits. Should be here next week. I was a Ping guy too.
I find it interesting that only one on line reviewer seems to have read the fine print on the HL stating it’s geared towards someone with a slower swing speed (75mph 7 iron) to give them more distance. Would be nice to see the person it’s geared towards testing them against the regular version to see what the difference would be. From the one reviewer who tested it with the slower swing speed, there was a much bigger difference in height and distance. Having Thomas swing them isn’t really helpful, though he does have a great swing!
He’s swinging a lot slower than he would normally, to show who these irons are targeted to. Maybe a few mph more than want, but about 10 mph than his normal swing. 👍🏼
@@glenburr6755 The description of the irons states for swings in the low 70s with the 7 iron…he wasn’t even close to that…I know Thomas can do it! I’ve seen him swing a driver under 100mph!!! LOL…
Love the content! I have been binge watching your videos to get a better idea what to expect in a fitting , buying new clubs and numbers on the trackman. Would like to see tips in what to look for in used clubs. Thanks 2nd swing!
Got my HL irons three weeks ago. I've played eight rounds and hit about 500 balls at the range. I LOVE THEM! Fitted with Recoil 95R shafts, bent 0.5 flat. Six of my eight rounds were my lowest of the year and reduced my handicap from 12 to 10. I'm 71 with a 7i swing speed of 74mph. These irons are so consistent even with slight miss hits. This is my first set of clubs with graphite shafts and I wish I had changed from metal long ago.
@@TheCamaroone1 My previous 7i was also 31 degrees. With the higher launch and higher flight, I gained about 4-5 yards with the HL 7i. The other irons don't match up exactly in loft with my old set, but I would also say that the HL irons go farther and land softer with less roll out. The ball stays in the air longer and lands with a steeper decent. Keep in mind my old set had KBS Tour 120 stiff shafts. My new set has Recoil 95 regular graphite shafts, so it isn't an apples to apples comparison.
@@peterbanton9155 thanks for the feedback! I'm thinking about getting a hl 6i to try it. The 6 iron in my current set is flying lower the last couple years so this club sounds intriguing.
@@TheCamaroone1 Glad to help you out. My set runs from 6i(28) to G(50). With my lower swing speed, which will surely get lower as I age, I did not get the 5i(25) as I didn't think I would get much more out of it than the 6i, and I have a 24 degree Adams HB which serves me very well, much better than I thought the 5i would.
I saw that I could order the HL in at 2° strong. Very tempted to try it. What are your thoughts ? The extra size and deeper weighting as you said, but lofts a bit closer to the regular Hot Metal... distance, high launch, and forgiveness ?? Could you guys test a 6 iron HL vs a 7 iron regular Hot Metal ? Similar lofts ?
The cool part about these Clubs, which I have the HM pro. With a slower swing speed the HL will fly way higher than the other two models. I am not a big hitter, I hit the HL 5 iron 185. I hit the HM pro 5 Iron about 170.
Good feedback and thanks for watching! Definitely depends on the player in terms of the distance, but the HL will definitely fly higher for everyone and there are many golfers looking for more height and launch with irons
The HL is surely for the moderate swing speed gofers. I tried every popular brands on the range offered by the pro shop nearby. JPX923 HM HL gives you the confidence to hit across the lake to a par 3 green with that high trajectory. Not as far as Paradym X though. But HL is much good value.
Any thoughts on having a slower swinging player test out the HL vs. HM? I think Mizuno claims that for the slower swinger, the HL may go further because it has more launch, carry, etc.
so if my swing speed is 95... are HL out of the question? I don't really understand why anyone would want jacked lofts, wouldn't everyone rather launch high with classic lofts? want more distance just use the next iron no?
Not necessarily! It's all up to what you want with your irons. But the issue can be that some people, with classic lofts and the newer technology, will launch the ball too high with too much spin. That's why lofts have gotten stronger over the years in the game-improvement category.
Great review Guys..Love the way Thomas hits the ball so pure....It would be nice when you do a comparison of these models you would add a higher handcaper with a slower swing speed also so we can see how these clubs works for say a 15 handicaper too...Most Pros can hit almost any club and get some good results......Thanks...
For well fit shafts I obtain 1.9-2.0 yds per MPH. Thus, I’d see your 7i topping out at 150 yd carry, about 142 carry on the low side. 1.9-2.0 yds/ mph is what Trackman data shows for both LPGA and PGA tour 7i averages.

How was the feeling between the 0211 and 923HL?
I got fitted with the Mizuno 923 HL. Every seniors should play the 923 HL. Great club. Better than ping 425 and 430. I was a Ping man.

The loft specs on the “High launch” are exactly the same as my JPX 921 forged lol
These are exactly what I was looking for. I’m 60 years old, swing 6 iron around 80 mph, need more spin and higher landing angle. ⛳️🏌🏽♂️
Pity the HL can’t be as slim as the others but very happy with their decision to provide this choice. 🎉
Agreed! Huge win for Mizuno...there are a lot of players that need an iron exactly like the HL
Good stuff guys. I am looking forward to trying both the s23 and s23 HL out. The s23 wedge i got is pretty awesome.

Just curious. How much distance did you lose because of the higher launch?

great video guys as usual! im very curious about mizunos new fly-Hi hybrids any chance we will be getting a test video on them?
I game the HL and I love them. No more balls rolling off the green
Would be interesting to compare the forged to the high launch in terms of launch, peak height etc since they similar lofts

Hey guys good video. I'd like to see you compare the mizuno hot medal high fly and the Callaway Apex21 DCB.
I heard the HLs were not available for lefties…can you confirm? If not, do you know if they will be in the future?
Please compare the Mizuno 923 HL vs Srixon mk 4 irons

With the changes in tech and lofts, haven't the club numbers become meaningless? A modern 7 iron plays a lot like my old 6 iron.
