Thank you for showing us this comparison. I often wonder how different it looks if I did heat embossing as opposed to hot foiling. I just don’t have the money for all that equipment you need for hot foiling. You showed me that heat embossing works just fine. Yes there is a different look but to me it looks just as good as hot foiling. Thank you so much Justine for showing us this.😊🤗
For anyone else who is in the same boat: I am an artist/card maker. So I don't like to invest in tools that I can't use my own drawings with. I did recently get the foil quill freestyle and now I can hot foil my own drawings. It looks amazing.
I sold my Glimmer machine and plates as I found buying news plates was too expensive. I used the money to invest in a simple laser (toner) printer. I already had a Minc laminator so now I can print any image or sentiment and foil it. I don’t have to keep buying plates and I love the ability to print anything. There are also toner image transfer sheets that are inexpensive and fun to use. On my limited craft budget, a laser printer and Minc machine are THE way to go to get smooth foiled images.
TOO COOL!! Do you have knowledge of some y.t. vids that would demo the kind of foiling you’re describing?? P.S.: Thanks for sharing info on an alternative!!
@@kkrolf2782 I’m not sure that would be okay to share here. However, if you search on UA-cam for “Minc”, “the Fuse”, or “toner foiling” tons of videos will pop up. Hope that’s helpful. 🙂
Yes! I was just going to comment a Minc is much more cost effective along with a laser printer. I cannot imagine having to buy a different plate for each design to Glimmer.
I'm so glad you made this video. I really wanted to be able to foil without all the cost, expensive equipment and foil plates. I love the look of foiling in the videos and how when they peel off the sheet how fun it is to reveal such beautiful results. I watched many videos on how to foil without those. I tried doing the method with a regular laminator. I tried the method where you use the sticky embossing powder. I spent hours upon hours testing different ways and none of them came out looking really nice and smooth and solid. I ended up completely frustrated that I had wasted all of that time. I returned the laminator and gave up on all of those so called alternative methods to foil. I do already have several different embossing powders and the items to heat emboss and I do that quite often. I am much more satisfied with that process and heat embossing is just so much fun. It's like magic every time to me and it never gets old. I think this video will be helpful to a lot of people who just can't afford to buy all of the fancy foiling items. Thank you.
I have a minc so I do toner foiling which is less expensive and I can use any design. The only downside is it does not look debossed like hot foiling which is usually what you would see used commercially and seems more professional than toner foiling. But this is not enough for me to invest in hot foiling and go down the rabbit hole of endless plate buying.
Justine, I've been enjoying the summit quite a bit and I saw something you used that I would love to have. It was like a stencil to make color swatches and had 4 small squares to ink for sets of inks. Where could I find that item please?
Justine do you think you could use one of the glimmer dies in a die cutting machine without all the glimmer plates, heat etc? What I’m saying is I have a few glimmer dies but don’t have the glimmer machine and wanted to try and run them through just the die cutting machine. Hope this makes sense.
I have to ask...... where do you purchase the large containers of embossing powder? I feel like I wouldn't be buying the powder so often. . That larger size would be more cost effective. Thank you for the great comparison of these techniques.
Gilding flakes are another option to get a metallic look. They don’t look like either embossing or hot foil, just a different look

I appreciate that you showed us the comparison of hot foiling v. heat embossing. Thank you for not trying to sell another tool. Both are very pretty.

Thanks Justine, I will continue to heat emboss!
Thank you so much for showing both the differences between the two methods and that we can use what we may already have for a similar result!

This ended abruptly. I thought Justine had more to say 😢 Anyway, thanks for the comparison.

Is it compatible with the electric machines?
Justine I love the raspberry card stock. Who is the manufacturer? Thanks
Concord & 9th :)

I believe you would make an embossed look of the die but it won’t foil without the tools. Just try it :)
@@justinehovey thank you so much for answering my question. Love your videos and cards.

I got these directly from Wow. Scrapbookcom also sells them but they are always sold out.
Justine, do you have the Spellbinders die cutting machine with the 6” or 8” opening?
Both actually! They both work but the 6 inch is in the video
Thank You!
Gorgeous cards, Justine!! I always wanted to get the glimmer machine, but I'm so spastic I'm afraid I'll ruin it. Tfs.
Is the glimmer platform compatible with big shot?
