    In terms of skills, I am rather happy they went with a more condensed list than the previous editions and also that the numbers don't have to be huge to matter :) Good video, Dudes!

    Another great video Dungeon Dudes! How about something explaining passive skill checks in the future? I always see questions about these (particularly in regard to the "passive score being the minimum result" a character can achieve on a skill check.
    It comes up time and time again, and to be honest, I am not sure I am even doing it right after 3 years.
    Keep up the great work guys!

      As far as I can tell something like a passive perception check is described as your PCs awareness when not actively looking for someone/something else. A passive score is 10+ the ability modidier (in this case Wis)+ proficiency only if you are proficient in that skill. You don't roll for a passive perception check it's just always whatever the score is.

    I'm really psyched about my Bard leveling up so I can make more money.
    My CHA is 20 so I have an ability modifier of 5.
    I wasn't proficient in Intimidation so with Jack of Trades I boosted it to a 6.
    College of Lore, I can boost that to 8 if I pick Intimidation as one of my new 3 proficiencies.
    Expertise: Double your prof score for any ability you are pro in. Boom, 10+ Intimidation
    modifier.
    I also caught a belt of returning and bought a spear. I also have a mod. 3 for strength.
    Did I also mention that I am a 7 foot tall Firbolg?

    A lot of the links to your next videos are missing. Like I'm still confused about some proficiency bonuses like how it applies to combat but I don't know which video you put that in. It would be nice if the players handbook had a whole sub chapter about proficiency bonuses because for me it's the most confusing think coming from 3.5.

    rules question on this, if you are using the ua skill feats and playing a class that has expertise such as bard, how would that work out if you took expertise in a skill you had the skill feat for would your proficiency double twice?

    • @DungeonDudes
      @DungeonDudes  5 років тому +2

    I am a level 1 High Elf Bard,I noticed my passive wisdom (perception),does that add to my wisdom outcome?
    My proficiency bonus is +2, and my wisdom stat is at +2,forgive me if this question is silly,the last time I created a character was 3e.

    I don't know how I feel about 5e Skills. On one hand they are way more straightforward, and since everything is lumped into a smaller pool of skills the likelihood of a particular skill being called for is higher. However it is kind of sad when most class & race combos are only going to give like 4 things.

    • @DungeonDudes
      @DungeonDudes  6 років тому +12

      It is a much smaller pool, but I think adding Tools to the list really expands your options, especially if you use the Tool expansion rules from Xanathar's Guide to Everything.

    • @nathanieljernigan1147
      @nathanieljernigan1147 6 років тому +5

      Dungeon Dudes agreed. Plus while the nostalgia of assigning skill points is there, I will admit to a decent amount of cursing every level when I had to figure out exactly where to put each individual point. In the end never really feeling satisfied by my choices 😂

      After playing a decade of 3.5 and pathfinder, I'm sick to death of players with no strength, or no intelligence, maxing out skills which they should never have been able to gain.

    • @Wiizozz
      @Wiizozz 6 років тому +1

      Also consider that the DCs are much lower in general, meaning you won't be practically blind (in comparison with your party members) without having +15 on Perception or won't be a gullible fool if you don't max out Insight. Also the bonus is relatively small, so having a -1 or a +4 doesn't make that much difference anymore - although it gives an obvious "advantage" to the skill check
