I agree. And also not sure how you have your computer set up but you could make the program boot from your RAM and it would load crazy fast. But, I'm not familiar with small computers like that so I'm not sure how much room you'll have
A good idea would be to use an Arduino with an OBD2 shield to monitor activity on the canbus so that when you unlock your doors or do anything with the car it can trigger a relay to power on the gauge cluster. It would have the gauge cluster on before you even start the car.
MOD ADDICT If you want any more info on it, just let me know, I've been messing with the arduino and OBD2 shield reading tire pressures and random stuff.
I'm running a raspberry pi touchscreen dash on my M3, with software that I wrote in C++. Not sure if you have any programming experience, but it's been a fun project!
You need to use OS boot.. then go directly into cluster after boot. Btw, there is a windows arm version floating around on the net. Maybe you could do something with that.
start run type in msconfig or or something like that then hit enter then go to the startup tab then you should be able to enter your gauge program to start up.( to find your programs actual place it's stored and not the shortcut right click your program and it should start with something like c://programs) ( there should be some kind of hook up for the touch screen) maybe hooking up the USB to your windows computer?)
I have a similar setup using Dash Command in my Genesis Coupe. I'm using an android tablet and a Bluetooth OBD I I adapter. there is a delay with it. Did you experience a delay for the RPM with the computer and the direct connection to the OBD I I port? I'm assuming my delay was caused by the Bluetooth, but want to know for sure before I go for a permanent solution like this.
It's a shame you didn't record the fabrication steps. I think that setup could be considered illegal because there's no odometer? I didn't see any visible turn signals either?
I'm thinking to use an android device but I'll need to figure out how to use it with a home made electric car. I currently use torque to check my car's vitals
Awesome video! Lots of good information! Can you customize this software Dash Command to setup your main screen gauges to show the oil level, oil pressure, coolant level, coolant temperature, fuel level, fuel pressure and battery voltage?
Hi, I would like to know a little more detail about what software you used I have a raspberri pi 3 and I would like to be able to use it for that. I would greatly appreciate your suggestions and advice.
Keep working on the cluster mods man. If there is a touch screen big enough to take up most of the real estate there... Find one that could start the car with a finger print instead of keys. Would be a cool project.
just make yourself a bezel for the main cluster behind the wheel that will take care of the ghetto Lancet interior too...they always looked like a cheap 2002 civic which says a lot about Mitsubishi...cheeep cuts in materials and design runs rampant through all models except for a select few
Mod Addict, what part of TX are you in? I'm just outside of Dallas info Lancaster. I like how you did this I have plenty of questions. I believe you said you used Kagroo Windows 10, where did you purchase it?
thanks for the fast reply. how can i get this, and where can i get a tutorial about , how to set it up? what are the items i need? i have a 2009 dodge ram 1500 quad. i want it to look realy nice.
Really cool interesting idea. How are you getting the engine data to the windows pc, does it read it through the obd2 port or what? I think you should lower the bottom of the screen to line up with the side covers you made if possible. Also how hard did you try to get the first computer to work, did you try running the software you use through wine? I'm considering a similar project on my Corvette but I'm a hard core Linux guy and windows 10 drives me nuts. Anyway great project and video.
thanks man I didn't try that hard to get it to work with Linux found it easier for me to just go the windows way. and yes all the info is coming from the obd2 port. only downfall about this is it doesn't track mileage. so it's not really practical for an everyday car, would have to be for your racecar.
Is there any way to do this without an obd2 hook-up. I am doing an engine swap that doesn't have obd2. I need to now how to get the voltage signal hooked to the computer
U can buy bench test kits for these projects, but if u build em urself, it's usually with potentiometers (of course, with proper circuitry, if u need diodes, extra resistance, etc). To try to make it sound simple... Ur basically taking a known good voltage rating that the ECU wants for reference, and (depending on what the ECU wants to see per output voltage.. signal) pull the resistance to positive, or negative, within the range it would want... U figure all those things out, then (for the touchscreen) write the code for those same parameters, and hook ur potentiometer setup to that, to verify the function.
Great mod however it takes to loong to boot PC and get all the gauges on the screen. In real life "Everyday car" it can be annoying. The only affordable digital dash I found is Holley. If anyone knows other digital dash pls drop a link. However it is a great idea for a second dash as multimedia unit.
+Vadim Gerasimov thank you sir and yea I agree with you I bet I could cut the time down alot with a auto boot and have the program load automatically. But thanks for the comment.
Or use the MSMG Toolkit, strip down a windows 10 iso of all the stuff you don't need (basically everything in this case) and then install that. It will heavily improve the startup times.
Hey man, nice job on this tutorial. Im at the step where I am trying to connect my wifi obd2 scanner to my windows 10 mini pc and the dashcommand software says connected but wont show any of the rpms or anything. Any special way you had to set it up?
+teja potamsetty the only thing I could think of would be maybe check the setting to see if you need to specify it's a Bluetooth connection vs a wired connection. Mine was a wired connection so I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot a Bluetooth one. Sorry man
Jaime Cuevas yea I agree was planning on getting a new screen for it as that one is all scratched up. will definitely have to look into a anti glare cover as well. thanks for watching.
Savy Techgirl there is a full running version of windows 10.. however drivers are getting support.. but you might be able to install drivers from a working version of windows
Yeah I've been trying to find the exact dimensions in inches but I find so many different dimensions it's hard to tell what's what. I have the 7" official raspberry pi screen with the black outline and I've already cut the gauge cluster to it but it doesn't have hdmi so I need to get a similar screen to yours. I'm just not sure if I'm going to need to get another gauge cluster to cut to the new screen because I'm not sure which is actually bigger or if at all.
looks good, reminds me if back in the day. What are you using for startup/shutdown control? I would recommend a m3atx to power your Pi2, it will boot and shut down the pi with ignition. Check out my videos if you haven't already.
VuthavadooVikshay yes there are settings you can go into and change all sorts of stuff it's a really cool program. and thanks I am planning on doing something for it I'm not sure what yet.
it can be I installed it in my lancer cluster housing so this one will only fit in a lancer. but you could put the screen in any housing as long it fits of course. and everything I got I ordered on amazon so it should be on there will post links in description now.
Just strip the windows 10 of all services that you don't need. And to get touch screen you have to plug the screen into a USB port of the windows 10 pc.
+William Thefnbill yep sure is one of the best cars in it's class in 2004. And I sold it so don't have it anymore building a big turbo rb25 datsun 280z.
Sorry officer, I couldn't see how fast I was going. That windows 10 creators update is taking forever to finish, though.
stevey500 hahababhabababbajhHajahah!!!!-
LOL
In the registry you should change it to boot application on startup. That way when you start your car it boots like new cars right into the cluster.
that's a good idea I'll have to do that.
I agree. And also not sure how you have your computer set up but you could make the program boot from your RAM and it would load crazy fast. But, I'm not familiar with small computers like that so I'm not sure how much room you'll have
Luper SSD
Michael Fripp totally.. something that will boot pretty much on an instant.
@@MODADDICT u dont have to do it in the reg just go to run and type msconfig and click startup and u can set a new startup task
A good idea would be to use an Arduino with an OBD2 shield to monitor activity on the canbus so that when you unlock your doors or do anything with the car it can trigger a relay to power on the gauge cluster. It would have the gauge cluster on before you even start the car.
+Brian Ebling that's a great idea but would it have to reboot when you crank the car on?
MOD ADDICT If the arduino was powered by a direct battery source, it shouldn't lose power when cranking.
I believe the arduino could be powered by the OBD shield through the OBD port and I'm fairly certain there's always power even when cranking.
+Brian Ebling makes sense I'll have to give that a go I have sense sold the car and the cluster but have been wanting to make a bigger and better one.
Ryan F any more info on your digital dash?
I was just about to send my cluster in to get rebuilt! Not after this vid, your a legend dude!
You need to use OS boot.. then go directly into cluster after boot.
Btw, there is a windows arm version floating around on the net.
Maybe you could do something with that.
I know this video is a couple years old now, but if im not mistaken you can set up raspberry pie for windows 10
Definitely awesome congrats
start run type in msconfig or or something like that then hit enter then go to the startup tab then you should be able to enter your gauge program to start up.( to find your programs actual place it's stored and not the shortcut right click your program and it should start with something like c://programs) ( there should be some kind of hook up for the touch screen) maybe hooking up the USB to your windows computer?)
It's about time! I want to make one for my xj.
Looks good. Could you please place the link to the computer you used and also the enclosure for the computer. Thanks.

Thanx Buddy :-)
"it's gonna be loud....." he said and i was like "YAAAAAAAAY" and i hear this toyota prius starting
Sindre Andrè Andersen lol camera doesn't really pick it up but it was pretty much open header lol all fixed up now tho nice and quiet.

How do we not have these for sale everywhere yet? We have apps like Torque, we have cheap chinese pcs and lcds, why are they not everywhere?
It's a shame you didn't record the fabrication steps.
I think that setup could be considered illegal because there's no odometer?
I didn't see any visible turn signals either?
So ever time you start your car, you got to boot.your dash?
I'm thinking to use an android device but I'll need to figure out how to use it with a home made electric car. I currently use torque to check my car's vitals
Awesome video! Lots of good information! Can you customize this software Dash Command to setup your main screen gauges to show the oil level, oil pressure, coolant level, coolant temperature, fuel level, fuel pressure and battery voltage?
Yes, sir, you can add and remove information from the cluster there are also custom gauge faces you can download and use as well so tons of options.
Hi, I would like to know a little more detail about what software you used I have a raspberri pi 3 and I would like to be able to use it for that. I would greatly appreciate your suggestions and advice.
A windows tablet would've saved a lot of time. You can find them for dirt cheap in pawn shops.
Great Vid n all n I will be doing the same thing, but this boy looks a bit high, as high as a cloud,
nice. i love t. itwill show how much gasyou have also? or no
jorge m it does have a gas Guage I didn't get a chance to drive enough with it in to see if it was reading or not.
Keep working on the cluster mods man.

Is there a gas light or guage? and ill check your last video but do you have links for the pc or screen?
Do you have the links for the components you used? I have a similar idea but not on my cluster
Please how did you do this ?
will / could this work on electric converted vehicles?
Can you see your gas level? Kinda an important thing to know but I didnt see it on your dash.
Any beautiful new cluster for lexus lx470 2002 to a new version
Would you be able to make one for a 2008 Dodge Charger ?!?
Mod Addict, what part of TX are you in? I'm just outside of Dallas info Lancaster.
I like how you did this I have plenty of questions. I believe you said you used Kagroo Windows 10, where did you purchase it?
TheNastyboypro fr I’m in Fort Worth
thanks for the fast reply. how can i get this, and where can i get a tutorial about , how to set it up? what are the items i need? i have a 2009 dodge ram 1500 quad. i want it to look realy nice.

How would you customize a cluster for a 2007 impala SS? I'm in need of one asap.
How did you make the needles move without a car?
U can buy bench test kits for these projects, but if u build em urself, it's usually with potentiometers (of course, with proper circuitry, if u need diodes, extra resistance, etc). But will it run crisis
Shit I don't see why it wouldn't lol
Hi, good job
but how did you get the CAN bus commands? I mean the opcodes
Hagay Sakat Google sir.. usually provides most things.
Awesome idea 👍
connect the usb of the screen to the pc to use the touch screen
Great mod however it takes to loong to boot PC and get all the gauges on the screen. In real life "Everyday car" it can be annoying. The only affordable digital dash I found is Holley. get something like the gigabyte brix that will let you install an ssd for faster boot
Or use the MSMG Toolkit, strip down a windows 10 iso of all the stuff you don't need (basically everything in this case) and then install that. It will heavily improve the startup times.
Vadim Gerasimov auto meter makes a great universal digital dash. nearly zero boot time
Haltech/RacePak IQ3 Street Dash
Hey man, nice job on this tutorial. Im at the step where I am trying to connect my wifi obd2 scanner to my windows 10 mini pc and the dashcommand software says connected but wont show any of the rpms or anything. Any special way you had to set it up?
+teja potamsetty the only thing I could think of would be maybe check the setting to see if you need to specify it's a Bluetooth connection vs a wired connection. Mine was a wired connection so I'm not really sure how to troubleshoot a Bluetooth one. Sorry man
true, I bought a usb and it is working thanks. Did you notice a pretty decent lag from when you rev to what it shows?
What usb cable did you have to buy exactly?
+teja potamsetty I didn't really habe to do anything special the only difference is mine was a wired connection vs your Wi-Fi connection.
Screen glare is going to be a problem, you should have an anti-glare screen before finishing, nice work by the way
Jaime Cuevas yea I agree was planning on getting a new screen for it as that one is all scratched up. will definitely have to look into a anti glare cover as well. thanks for watching.
Would you do it for my 2010 ford Taurus I will pay you what ever you want
would you be able to save multiple tunes and upload it.?
+Stephen Aiden I don't see why not that would really depend on your tuning software you use.
OK.
Looks awesome 👍😁👌
Why does it show neutral on the dash ?
pretty sweet man. impressive.
Sweet like a NASCAR Cup Series dashboard.
Do you have pit road speed lights LOL.
J/K this is to cool thanks for posting it :)
Can you mod a 2015 Cadillac cluster to fit my Truck
what kind of monitor do you have and where did you get it from do you have a link
How does the computer read rpm and speed? Is it just a matter of plugging in something or is there s separate device to install.
+B bo I'm plugged into the obd2 port which provides all of the vehicle info to the computer and the program puts it on the screen for me.
Is it compatible with the Honda city type 2 model?
You can use Windows 10 iot on a raspberryPi.
Savy Techgirl there is a full running version of windows 10.. however drivers are getting support.. but you might be able to install drivers from a working version of windows
That’s awesome
Hey there can you tell me what the measurements of you screen is in inches from top to bottom and side to side?
It is a 7inch touch screen I have it linked in the description that will be the best way to get the dimensions.
Love your build btw.
Ah ok have you thought about just getting some plexi to cut and cover the openings?
And thanks man glad you enjoy the videos will be post more soon
Yes I also had that thought but my goal is to have a bigger screen view with perfect or close to perfect fitment
How bright is it at night? is that adjustable ?
+adam nonya it's pretty bright as for adjustability I honestly don't know didn't even think about that.
looks good, reminds me if back in the day. What are you using for startup/shutdown control? I would recommend a m3atx to power your Pi2, it will boot and shut down the pi with ignition. Check out my videos if you haven't already.
connect an echo dot for voice commands 👌🏾
You should have installed android on raspberry and used torque app with odb2
Can I put this on my 2001 Bmw e46?
don't see why not! its really a universal thing as long as your car has an OBD2 port you should be good to go.
is it possible to change the miles reading to km/h ?
Great job btw, will you be making another one for your new car?
VuthavadooVikshay yes there are settings you can go into and change all sorts of stuff it's a really cool program. and thanks I am planning on doing something for it I'm not sure what yet.
Did you find a way to make the Fuel Gauge work? That would make it more usable.
VuthavadooVikshay no I haven't played with it much as the car is in pieces in my garage for a new paint job haven't driven it since this video lol.
Check out latepanda alpha
Pi sized but made for windows
does the odometer work
Hey there do you have a link to the correct dashcommand download for windows 10?
Just google dash command for windows 10 that's all I did to find it
Dont you have to have the micro usb plugged in the actual pc to have touch capabilitys
+comment a I tried that and it still didn't work
What kind of obd 2 are you using
+Federico Cantu I used the tactrix openport 2.0.
what tuning software do u use??
Steven Daniel it's called fastworks the only tuning software for that car that I know of.
you can have the rasberry img file that used in the video?
thanks
How much to do a 2001 F250
Is this dashboard universal for any car you can install? And where can I order this fee?
it can be I installed it in my lancer cluster housing so this one will only fit in a lancer. but you could put the screen in any housing as long it fits of course. and everything I got I ordered on amazon so it should be on there will post links in description now.
How did you install windows on the pi
CliMeeXx PlayZz™ I got rid of the pi and am running a kangaroo mini pc.
Where can I buy it??? :)
where did you get a Kangaroo for $100. lowest I see is $149.99.
Richard Pulliam III not sure think I got it off of Amazon along with everything else.
omg this is so fucking cool!!!!
Hello, the program name?
Vincenzo Miceli it's called dash command
tutorial bro?
How often do you upload videos?
carlos aguirre I try to every week
Do you live in Killeen
+Jahquan Russell no sir
Good job keep going :)
no gas cluster
should really turn off the Wifi
Just strip the windows 10 of all services that you don't need. And to get touch screen you have to plug the screen into a USB port of the windows 10 pc.
in car view
why you just don't buy a windows 10 tablet ???
+best movies wanted to do something different and mountable where my cluster was.
Just get a new Mercedes Benz
When you start a how to.. it should explain something. Not just a video of you doing it.
What are you driving? An automatic? SCRUB!!
+William Thefnbill no sir it's a 5speed manual
Yeah but it's still a ralliart sooo...
+William Thefnbill yep sure is one of the best cars in it's class in 2004. And I sold it so don't have it anymore building a big turbo rb25 datsun 280z.
Damn that was pretty stupid
Any beautiful new cluster for lexus lx470 2002 to a new version
