Very true, I'm sure these activities are more difficulty after knee replacement surgery... but hopefully with some practice they are beneficial and you will see some improvements in your walking.
Thank you so much for posting this video! I'm 5 mos post surgery and having a difficult time walking for any length of time, getting tired and limping. My previous knee surgery 13 yrs ago I did not experience this. Since doing what you posted - really reaching my leg forward and then stepping heel toe ... I am so much better!! Nothing was working previously and this IS... I can't thank you enuf!!!
I’m glad to hear this. I’m actually getting worried…..I’m almost 4 weeks out. I feel easily fatigued and definitely have a limp. I feel like I move like a turtle ❤❤❤❤
I have soreness on my hips and where my legs meet torso area. I figure it is from bad walking form. I will try your tips from your video. Thank you for your info.
Hello I just saw your video for the first time. I just recently was just taught how to walk heal toe. The big step help me. I'm in the total knee replacement surgery 9 wks January 11. I've been in a lot of pain but I still do my exercise at home and I walk at least 1400-1600 steps every other day plus 3x therapy and just found out that the Dr have to manipulate my knee. Not very happy about it bcuz I've been working hard. Looking forward to do more exercise. Your video are very helpful to me. Thank you sir. John 3:16🙏✝️🛐💙
Thank you for watching and sharing. Hopefully the manipulation will be very helpful and you'll notice improved range of motion in your knee and improved walking. Keep walking and exercising and you will see the benefits of your hard work.
@@CJBr-be4uk About the same. Im very discouraged. I cant balance and carry even dishes. Impossible to put weight on knee as to kneel to garden. Hope ur doing better.
@lindasischo224 I am 4 months post op. My knee buckles at times when I walk, I fell 3 times since i had the surgery, so I'm scared to walk. I walk most times in the house without the aids. I'm afraid to walk with more than one item. I still do the exercises and also watch the UA-cam ones. I also don't have a full extension. Are you still doing your strengthening exercises?
Here is an exercise to improve going up and down stairs better but has similar principles for going uphill and downhill: ua-cam.com/video/E0A4xZ6GBX4/v-deo.html Some things that will also help you are building strength through the quadriceps and glutes through exercise and practicing uphill and downhill walking either land-based or using a treadmill.
I had to get an emergency surgery after an accident and they put a rod in my femur. They went through the knee. It's been 3 and a half months and it's my knee that is the reason I still can't walk all this time later. I appreciate your video!
I haven’t had any surgery but I do have a torn meniscus in my right knee. For some reason I don’t know how to talk normally with my left knee anymore. It’s like I don’t know how to extend it regularly when I walk and I feel like when I stand on it my knee is always slightly bent. I’m scared to force myself in an unnatural standing position. I forgot how to walk and stand basically. I also have pain in my good knee now when bending it so it can only get to like 130 degrees. As for my bad knee I can’t extend it all the way it feels stuck. Does anyone else have this issue
Lack of range of motion can be common with a torn meniscus. It sometimes feels like the knee is locked. You probably know how to walk it’s just you don’t have the mobility in the knee. Physical therapy is a good option to see if this can be addressed.
Hi Tiya, I'm sorry to hear that you're still experiencing sounds and pain in your knee six months after TKR. It can be disheartening when recovery takes longer than expected. Have you discussed these symptoms with your surgeon or healthcare provider recently? It's important to keep them informed about any ongoing issues so they can assess your situation and provide appropriate guidance. Sometimes, additional physical therapy or imaging tests may be needed to understand what's causing the discomfort. In the meantime, gentle exercises recommended by your therapist and following any prescribed medication or pain management techniques can help. Take care!
I am 75 yo and almost 4 mths post op. I achieved satisfactory ROM within a few weeks. I have built up to about 1200 to 1500 steps a day and can manage the full heel to toes walking motion. But every step is painful, albeit at relatively low level of 1 to 2 on a scale of 10. The pain stays quite constant throughout the walk but I get some increased swelling. I usually elevate and ice and massage after walking. Should I be showing more progress in walking normally without the pain ? What else should I do?
To still have some pain with walking is definitely not abnormal. As long as the pain stays at this lower intensity, I would actually recommend to just continue what you are doing. Your knee is still healing and there is still going to be some inflammation as well as nerve sensitivity. The more you walk and keep your normal routine the more the body adapts and tolerates this activity with less pain and discomfort. Hope this helps!
I would offer similar advice as the video. You'll likely have some difficulty making significant improvements until after your surgery, but every bit helps leading up to the surgery. Best wishes!
I had knee done so I need more help I shuond be better but I am not I can not go to work I had my knee done in July and I am still not walking good at all do help me janet

Hi , many thanks for this very helpful information . I will be having a partial knee (medial component) next week and I’m wondering if you still advise heal /toe protocol.? Much appreciated and thanks in advance .
I don't believe splits are contraindication but I believe it will be more a concern about comfort and tolerance of being in this position. The vast majority of people will probably not tolerate or have increased pain in this position.
Hello . I am a kid a girl 12 years old and i had knee fracture that was a hairline fracture and it's almost 2 months after my cast removal was done on 6th jan 2023 and i am still not able to walk
Hello, thank you for watching the video. Sorry to hear you are having difficulty walking. Hopefully with some physical therapy and hard work you will be able to back to walking soon! Best wishes!
I had acl and meniscus surgery done on 10 feb ...going to complete 1 month ...i have approx 90° flexion..i can't walk properly without support ...how much days it will take to walk normal ?
If you were walking prior to surgery, you will likely be able to return to walking after, but I can't speak on specifics of your particular surgery and circumstances without knowing anything about you or your situation.
This is common and ok…do the best you can with where you are now, you are likely making improvements even if you can’t notice them yet… the pressure and discomfort improves slowly over time
@@KneeReplacementTherapists I hope so because its hard to keep going when you have constant stiffness and pain. In the last 12 weeks i have had one lateral release on the right knee and one manipulation under anaesthic
Sorry to hear that but this is very normal part of the process. Continue with your rehab and give your body time, you will see many improvements in the coming weeks and months.
It is very difficulty to provide a specific reason without doing a physical assessment and obtaining a more complete medical history. I recommend consulting with your surgeon. Thank you for watching!
You can take a bath once the incision is closed and the surgeon give the ok. Also when you feel comfortable and able to getting into and up out of the tub.
So easy for these young bucks who have never experienced a TKR.
