THIS IS WHAT I'VE BEEN LOOKING FOR. Not a single car audio, trailer, or mechanic shop has been able to tell me if I can do this without a mantainer/trickle charger. I believed it was possible to do it this way but they couldn't verify. Thanks!
Thank you for your comment give me a thumbs up if you can.
Ok. Just want to ask a few steps.
So.
From Battery Brake Box...
Hot into the trailer to a deep cycle battery...Then I should be able to add a power inverter to charge tool batteries?
You remembered the fuse! Awesome! So many FORGET the fuse. One buys a battery box made to NOT leak out the bottom and let any Acid leak! Then drill holes in it Brillant! No neutrals in 12v just Hots and grounds. Thanks for the video.
Thank you for your comment.
I’m glad you enjoyed the video and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
Most buy the battery boxes to protect the battery rather than keep the battery from leaking.
Thank you so much for the video
It really helped me
I did exactly what you show and now I don’t have to charge my battery again
Thank you again santos
I’m glad that helped let me know if there’s anything else you would like to do to your trailer or anything else and I would be glad to make a video thank you again
entonces si le funciono primo?
Thank you for taking the time to make the video. I am using this info to carry a deep cycle battery in my truck charged to run my CPAP machine while camping.
Well thank you for your comment and I hope you continue to watch the videos and give me a thumbs up.
Great video! Thanks!
Thank you for your comment and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
Thanks for the video. Question: You know how you have the positive and negative wires going to the break away (emergency brake) battery...Can't you just split them to go to the new battery?
Yes you can I just ran inside the box where everything was tied in together essentially I did the same thing everything that was going to the battery is going to the other battery that is inside the trailer.
Thank you for your comment and leave me a thumbs up if you can.
@@buildingwithpapa in my trailer, the emergency brake battery is mounted inside the trailer. I plan to mount an extra battery or two right next to it. My plan was just to split the wires that are charging that battery. I think it'll work. Thanks again.
How do you not blow the fuse when the trailer battery is low and you start charging? Does the tow vehicle’s trailer light system safely limit the charge current? Thanks for sharing!
Thank you for your question. Many trailers that have brake systems, which this one does already has a small 12 V battery on the frame with a fuse that charges off your seven pin.
You need the fuse because if something short out you want that fuse to break. I hope this helps you and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
I enjoyed the video, but I don't recall that you mentioned how you wired the negative side of the battery. Where did you ground it?
The battery set up was already in the trailer and they had a grounded to the frame and they had the wires going directly to the lights but there was no way to charge it so I connected it to the seven pin the white on the negative and the black one on the positive of the seven pin it was already on the diagram of the truck which one was which it was easy to connect and now the battery is being charged while the truck is running
nice video. yes, some audio issues, but we can get the idea of what you're doing here. I have a single battery Silverado 1500 with the towing package, and I see that I too have 14vdc at that pin with the truck is running. any issues with charging two, 12vdc AGM deep cycle batteries, connected in parallel (so they remain 12vdc), in my trailer, with your method? In other words, can my stock truck (whether its the battery or the alternator) handle the extra load put on it to charging these two trailer batteries?
Thank you for your question. No, it will not be an issue. It’ll charge the batteries. It’s only going to produce what your alternator puts out and no charge the batteries completely. I hope you enjoyed the video, and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
Thank you for doing that Video I was wanting to do something similar with a trailer I just bought so I can run a mini fridge, lights, fans and CPAP while camping (and if I get a large enough Inverter a portable A/C).
I also have another video where I install an inverter in a Landscaping trailer so he can run a compressor and charges batteries for his battery operated tools.
I appreciate your comment and if you can leave me a thumbs up it really helps the channel.
@@buildingwithpapacan you share the link with the landscaping trailer install. Very interested in doing a similar setup.
Here you go. I’m glad you like the video and if you can leave me a thumbs up . ua-cam.com/video/kI3A5F-SgsU/v-deo.htmlsi=YdyyqhtSRzF76y-_
the battery on my towed vehicle is always getting drained during towing. I want to run a trickle charge so i can start my towed vehicle when i get to my destination. so all i need to do is to run a fused line from the constant hot of my connector to the towed vehicle battery? Do I also need to run a dedicated ground wire from the connector directly to the battery or is vehicle ground going to be sufficient?
Thank you for your comment, I think the real question here is why is your battery draining I don’t know how long you’re towing this vehicle but it seems odd to me that the battery is draining.
But if you do decide to charge that battery this way use the fuse line like you said of the constant heart but you are going to have to run the neutral also.
I hope this helps.
I never would’ve thought using The seven pin to do that good man
Thank you for your comment hope you continue watching videos
I saw that you had a smaller battery. Did you removed it or did you leave it still connected with the bigger battery also ? appreciate any information about that.
Yes the smaller battery I left it connected it was also a 12 V that is for the brakes on the trailer this helps you thank you for your comments
What gauge of wire you use to run from your fuse Box to the baterry
I believe what I used was 10 gauge wire.
Thank you for your comment and give me a thumbs up if you can.
Thanks for your video! I just learned my 2018 F-150 SuperCrew with a tow package will not charge the trailer batteries while driving. The RV dealer checked the 7-pin Aux 12V and it showed no power. I spoke with a Ford service tech and he stated in order to have power the truck needed to be parked and you had to keep your foot on the brake pedal. He then hooked up a device that simulated a towed trailer and when the brake was not pressed there were zero amps at the 7-pin., but when the brake was pressed it showed 6-7 amp at the 7-pin. What are your thoughts about running a 16 gauge wire directly from the tow vehicle battery to the 7-pin Aux to charge the trailer batteries while driving?
Running directly from the battery is very dangerous it can overheat that Wire and possibly burn it up I don’t recommend it if you do it you need to put a fuse in that line so that you don’t have any issues but I think it’s going to pop the fuse quite a bit.
Also I wanted to thank you for your question I did not know that about the F1 50 I’ve done it on a dodge ram as you seen in the video and it works quite well I’ll have to check it on my Escalade but again mines a 2013 I believe there was no issues with mine I know what they use for the tow package it says that power to the small 12 V battery for the brakes on the trailer.
I hope you like the video and that you continue to watch and if you can leave me a songs up it really helps the channel.
@@buildingwithpapa Thanks for your insight. I'd rather be safe than sorry.
I agree always be safe all right if you can give me a 👍
First, a lot of vehicles have the aux pin circuit broken by leaving the fuse out. It's safer to not have an energized lead hot all the time. Kids playing can mess with it, driving through saltwater could short the circuit and cause galvanic issues with metals by your exhaust. Just look under your hood for the breaker names. I bet you have a breaker for "aux trailer". Google say space 9 and 21 are the fuse slots AND look for relay slot #5 in the fuse box, it comes empty from the factory, put a $10 relay in that slot or jump a fuse to slot 5 to have power to aux pin all the time, with a relay you only get power back there when the trucks ignition is on. Fuse should be anywhere from 15 to 30 amps. If you need more than thay then yes you can run a wire from your f150 to the camper trailer, they make kits for doing just that. I had it like that for a 20amp DC-DC charger, until I finally found the Xantrec echo, its a 10 or 15amp battery charger for my trailers lithium batteries. Hope that helps.
I really would love to hear what you're saying. I love this idea. Hagd.
I did upload a whole another video with better sound. check it out

So, you don't need to run a wire from the negative terminal on the battery or did I miss that?
Thank you for your question. I should’ve made it more clear this trailer when he bought it had a battery in it to run the lights but they didn’t set it up to be charged so I didn’t need to run the white wire. I only needed to run the positive to the battery, I hope you enjoyed the video and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
What gauge wire do you use to hook to battery from trailer hook up
I believe I used an eight gauge wire. I hope this helps you and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
What gauge wire does it need? What gauge is that red wire that was ran?
The red wire I believe was 10 gauge.
I hope this helps you if so give me a thumbs up.
Santos what part of fl are u in? I could ur help with this.
I don’t know how I missed this but I am near Fort Lauderdale.
You can email me at Buildingwithpapa@gmail.com
What size wire did you use to go to the battery?
When you look at your seven pin the wire that’s coming off that for your 12 V positive and negative is the same size wire that you want to use to go to the trailer to the battery I believe it was a number 10 I would have to look again I hope this helps you
Nice job!!! Why did you have to reinstall the original brake battery?
Thank you for your question. The battery was already installed inside the trailer, but it only operated the lights but was not being charged so I had to run the wire to the battery so that it would be charged off the seven pin. I hope you like the video and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
what size inlinefuse did you use? and thank you for the video!
Are used a 40 amp in-line fuse.
Thank you for your comments.
@@buildingwithpapa HA! That was my question. The video was a big help.
I was looking at solar to trickle charge the battery while the truck and trailer were parked. I don’t have much running off the trailer battery, but like everything with an electrical power source, things are going to add up. (Solar panel, charge controller, inverter are in my future)
Thanks for putting together the video. HUGE HELP! I tried finding the indoor fan you showed, no luck. Could I ask you for the brand? Again, thanks. I’ve replaced boat trailer wiring. With this video I think I can handle charging the battery in the trailer. Really good stuff.
@@jeffhenderson934 The fans my son-in-law bought them I believe on Amazon, they’re golf cart fans 12 V
I hope you continue to watch give me a thumbs up that helps the channel.
Audio fades in and out badly ! My question concerns preventing back feed from trailer battery to truck using a diode.
What diode do you use to prevent the back feed
The connection is only made when the truck is running. That’s why he had to start the truck. It would only pull from the trailer if the truck batteries went down and you might be glad it did.
What amp fuse? Do you need a regulator to step the 14v down to 12v?
Are used a 40 amp in-line fuse. It worked fine and no you do not need a regulator. Your alternator is usually pushing out 14 to try and keep your battery up to 12.8. I hope this helps you and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
Are any risk to damage electrónics in the truck due a trailers battery?
Make sure you install a in-line fuse. Hope you enjoyed the video and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
Ok im a little lost since the video dropped sound so many times & I never saw you reconnect the 7way nor do I know why you even cut it. Would you ever think of making this video over step by step with better audio?
Sorry about the sound, but yes, I have remade the video on a couple of other trailers should be in the playlist. if you look at the video closely, you’ll see he had 27 pins one on the hydraulic jack and one for the trailer. I eliminated the one on the hydraulic jack and added it to the existing seven pin cable. I did all that inside the box.
I hope this helps you. If not, please send me another question I will do my best to help you also, if you can leave me a thumbs up.
Im trying to do same thing my black power wire has scotchlock with wire to the brake controller battery can i add another scotchlock with wire to the battery the one i want to charge i was leary about multiple scotchlocks on powerwire
It’s not the greatest thing to do but it will work. I’m glad you like the video and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
I ended up hooking my elecjack to a battery with a inline fuse just just not sure how to wire it so truck charges it
How does it charge do you run new wire up to truck battery
No you don’t run new wire to the battery, your seven pin will have your 12 V hot wire and the white negative when you’re using those two wires it will charge your battery.
Hope you enjoy this video I have many more and thank you for your comment.
How do you keep it from not back feeding into the truck?
Thank you for your comment. You need to put a in-line fuse the battery you’re using is only a 12 V battery just like your truck I don’t know what truck you have but some trucks have two batteries there is no issue. Hope you enjoyed the video and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
So why did you install a new 7 pin connector? Did the original not have a 12v positive?
I did not install a new seven pin connector he had 2, One was for his Jack and one was for his trailer so I eliminated the one to the jack and tied it into the other seven pin on the trailer, so he would only have to use one.
God bless man that is what l need 🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏

Thank you for your comment, and if you can leave me a thumbs up
Great video I did not see what size fuse you used to protect the charging can you tell me what size you used and how you decided that. Thanks
I believe in this when I used a 30 amp fuse because we were just using to 8 inch fans and three small lights it wasn’t pulling that much. Hope you enjoyed the video, and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
Thanks so much so the fuse is for the fans protection only or also for the charging? I’m mainly concern for the charging in my application
It is mainly for the charging.
I’m interesting in all the wiring part. Can you do another video explaining what you did. Sound cut off on most important parts. I’m sure a lot of people are going to find that video helpful.
Thanks for sharing with us.
Thank you for your comments, let me know what you are looking for this trailer actually had the battery set up in the trailer already but not charging so it Already had the negative wire hooked up all I had to do is run the positive wire to the positive side of the seven pin and that’s what I show you in the beginning using the meter to find out which is the positive and -12 V wires coming from the truck and you can identify on the seven pin to the trailer and those are the wires you would be hooking up you would have to use both negative and positive if you don’t already have a battery hook up inside the trailer. I hope this helps make a comment or ask me any questions you’d like I will try to help you thank you.
Thanks for the help. I thought that’s what you did it. I wired my trailer yesterday and the alarm is installed. My only concern is if I have to change the fuse for the 7 pin conector since I now have a second battery and the alarm. Don’t want to blow a fuse..
again thanks for your time.

Where in Florida are you? Could definitely use your help
I’m in South Florida near Fort Lauderdale.
So, does it charge the battery while driving and even when driving lights of the truck are off?
Yes it charges the battery while driving. It doesn’t matter if your lights are on or off it will still charge the battery.
If you like the video and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
If battery truck is death and Hook up the trailer fully charged can 7 pin conector manage all the power to run the truck?
Thank you for your question you’ll have plenty of power to run your truck even if the battery in your trailer is down but you need to find out why your trailer battery is down it is best to keep it fully charged and your truck will charge it but if it keeps going down, then you need to check out the battery. I also have another video on how to restore a bad battery I hope this helps you and if you can leave me a thumbs up
thanks for the work into creating the video. im hoping the gaps in your audio shutting off isnt too important
Thank you for your comment. I’ve also made another video doing the same thing on a different trailer and the audio is better. I hope you enjoyed it and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
Your video is exactly what I needed but your audio cut out so I am pretty lossed
Which part do you need help with let me know I’ll see what I can do
Could you use 12 gauge wire in place of 10 gauge wire?
Thank you for your comment, Do you have to be at least the same size of the wire that is coming from your truck if it is 10 gauge used to engage do you need to verify it.
Let me know how it turns out and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
Why didn't you ground the negative on the battery to the frame of the trailer or the trailer itself
Thank you for your comment. The negative was already grounded to the frame from the trailer company. They never hooked it up to the seven pin to charge the battery so the battery would discharge and it would have to be removed or plug in a battery charger at night this is for my son-in-law so I hooked it up to a seven pin And now it stay charged. I hope you enjoyed the video and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
You do good work. good video except the volume. couldn't hear you for more than half the video. 👍
Yes I’ve heard that a lot so I put up a second video of doing the same thing, it has less views but you can hear better. thank you for your comment.
How do we know it won’t overcharge the battery? Is that what the fuse is for. I need this setup for a trailer with a winch. The winch runs off the batter but I have to manually remove and charge each time.
Yes that is what the fuses for so it doesn’t overcharge the battery or if there’s any other complications that would heat up the wire the fuse would blow first
On that small box with a small 12 batteries I have a light that’s on top of the little black box
Where is the small black box is it on the outside on the tongue of the trailer or inside?
Maybe I missed it? You ran 1 wire to positive terminal. I didn’t see you run a neutral line. Was there already one in place? Or maybe I am clueless but I thought to charge a battery using the 7 pin you would need 2 wires, for both positive and negative terminals.
Yes, you’re correct there was already a negative wire run to the box from that battery so all I had to do was run the positive wire. I hope you like the video and if you can leave me a thumbs up.
Need same but for 4 pin plug?
I have never tried with the four pin, I will have to look into it.
Hello sir questio !

If you don’t have a seven pin here’s how you install one on your trailer.
You never installed a battery isolator? Im doing this same set up on my trailer
Thank you for your comment. I guess I should’ve clarified this this truck already has a battery isolator it has two batteries and then has the positive and negative coming through the seven pin and there’s a battery on the trailer for the brakes, I just came off of those wires up to the new battery.
Will this not overcharge the battery? What prevents that?
Thank you for your question. No it does not over charge the battery it’s being used every day with lights and fans. I hope you enjoyed the video and if you can leave me a thumbs up.

What purpose does a battery in trailer serve?
Daniel Jimenez Well my son-in-law delivers bread so he’s out very very early in the morning the battery is for his lights and he has a couple fans to help keep him cool because he’s in and out of the trailer all day long delivering bread to all the stores
Anything that's under 12v. I have a popup so the list would include: the refrigerator, the lights, raising the roof, the stereo, the fan, 12V plugs and USB plugs.... which I believe is the same things a battery does for a regular RV. Everything else requires AC power or propane.
Sound cuts out, and can't see what wires, are being connected, because camera is too far away.
You have to look at your seven pin hook up on your truck or vehicle it will show you the negative in the 12 V positive that’s where you would connect your wires the black would be positive and the white would be the negative let me know if you need any other assistance
Ford trucks won't work unless it senses the load off the trailer connector. So it won't show any power until then.
OK that sounds reasonable, but the only time you’re going to be charging it is when it is connected with the seven pin.
Also thank you for your comment the truck I was working on was a ram and my other truck is an Escalade so I have not worked it out with a ford at this point.

Good idea however im surprised that you didn’t blow the 30a fuse when you cut the cord cap off!
The hot and ground are directly connected to the battery and your side cutters could have created a direct short as they penetrated the conductor
I would advise disconnecting the battery first
You need to watch it again the wire that I cut was the one that goes to the electric jack, I tied that into the rest of the system so when he connected his seven pin to the trailer it also operated the electric jack, so he didn’t have to plug the jack in and then when you after he hooked up the trailer then unplug that one and plug in the trailer jack, I combined them together so no that would not blow out the fuse the jack was not connected to any power until it’s connected to the truck.
I hope this help you understand it better thank you for your comment.

Yes in that video I had some sound issues. I had just bought my mic and had some problems, so I redid the video and hopefully straightened out all my sound problems for my other videos. thank you for your comment, if you can leave me a thumbs up.

Sorry no help at all.. don’t understand what you and that what I need to do to my trailer .. now for over 16 years now. Nobody seems to know what I’m talking. about
Well explain to me what you’re trying to do. I just put up another video called charge your battery in your trailer off your seven pin (@Buildingwithpapa) If you were trying to charge a battery in your trailer off of seven pin this one explains it and it has better audio.
If that doesn’t help you then just tell me what you’re trying to do in the make of your truck and or trailer and maybe I can help you.
