    Part 1: • Guy Torry on Following...
    --------
    Guy Torry spoke to VladTV about the friction behind the scenes of American History X after Edward Norton, an actor in the film, was allowed to edit the film, which caused tension with the director, Tony Kaye. Torry added that Kaye asked him to join him in his boycott of the film, which Torry said made him feel uncomfortable because he was just getting his start in Hollywood.

    Guy was fantastic in this movie.
    He was only on screen for maybe a little over five minutes, but he really sold it as the only guy on the planet who could turn Derek Vinyard around.

    Guy absolutely killed it in this film. I remember seeing it for the first time and having one of those moments you never forget. This film seriously opened my eyes to treating everyone with love and respect regardless of who or where they came from. I was not the nicest person when I was younger and Guys role made me reevaluate my life's choices. Thank you for your work 🙏 mad love and respect to you. And thank you from the bottom of my heart.

    Norton was scary good in that film. I saw it with a then girlfriend while up in Chico, CA when she wanted to visit the college. Being an interracial couple, coming out of the theater that night we both felt this really weird vibe. It was probably unfounded but it was present nevertheless. I seem to recall I was the only black person in the theater. But the film was one the most intense I've ever seen. When I first saw Norton in "Primal Fear" I was blown away by his performance in X was next level. The anger and hatred seemed to just come out of the screen. Especially the scene with Elliot Gould.
    .
    The laundry folding scene when they were arguing about the Lakers and Celtics was hilarious. Derek was talking about James Worthy's head and Lamont was like "he had ladies". Derek comes back with something like "I can't even talk to you."

    Something not talked about enough with this film is its message of how racism can creep into a normal person. Yes, the criminals that killed his father were black, but they did not kill him because he was white. Yes, the father got passed up for his promotion to a black employee, but it had nothing to do with race.
    He then passes down that casual racism down to his son, so that when he faces a real trauma - he then goes: oh okay, so everything my father said is true. And goes deep down the rabbit hole. I feel like there is a lot of people who are converted this way. And even those who don't become full-blown skinheads, I bet a lot of people hold racist views that once started out as casual.
    This movie is important because it reminds us all to keep our biases/hate in check. To separate your feelings and to be logical.

    • @shytguy
      @shytguy 2 роки тому +18

      Affirmative action has everything to do with race. How can you say that? It’s about preferring one group over another due to skin color. Not saying I agree with anything these racist people had to say in this movie, but to deny what affirmative action is, is to be dishonest.

    I am a former white nationalist. I used to be into the whole white power thing for a phase, never met up with fellow people or was a skinhead or anything, but I did own a swastika flag and had some pretty scary beliefs. I never was a neo nazi though, I just owned the flag because I believed in ethnonationalism, and wanted a white ethnostate. I went to a great organization called life after hate, and it helped me see the errors in my ways. I used to be a hip hop kid believe it or not, until I felt like the media and racial identitarians, and other races and religions where trying to wipe out my race. As silly as that sounds, I didn't arrive at that conclusion overnight. American history X in actuality has nothing to do with the modern white power movement or the movement back in the day, and the southern poverty law center doesn't tell the truth either. The best answer for all people is for all people to break free from racial identity politics, and reform what is left. You cannot fight hate with hate. Then all you did was make more hate. The issue isn't white Nationalism, black nationalism, Latin nationalism, the issue is racial identity politics, extremist ideologies, and the politics of racism. Racism does not and never has existed simply due to the color of ones skin. It exists because of various socioeconomic reasons and tribalism, and is the result of racial identity politics. The answer is to teach all angry people who don't like other races of all skin colours you can still be proud of your skin color and your heritage, and your history and all the great things it has done, without hating other races. The problems in society are created by people being human. Not other races. Blaming various societal ills on other races gets you absolutely nowhere in life.

      In actuality Skinheads are not respected by a lot of other white nationalists, they are looked down on for their reckless behavior, a better movie that somewhat more accurately depicts the white power movement as a whole is a movie called betrayed, which is based on bob matthews, who was essentially an extremist who died in a shootout with federal agents. He is sadly looked up to by a lot of misguided youth who subscribe to ideologies like that. But he, as well as a lot of other people that are essentially influential people within that community don't shave their head and go around stomping on people. They usually hide out in the woods and dress up in paramilitary shit, or just regular plain country clothes, some people i saw that were big in that community wore thrift store suits or just suits. The whole white power skinhead thing is really an 80's, 90's, and early 2000s thing. It will never fully go away, because technically it has it's own music culture. There are whole companies set up to make money off of selling music that is essentially encouraging or promoting racism, and hate crimes. But very few people really adopt the skinhead look, because people will physically attack you for displaying stuff like that. there are certain groups that keep the skinhead thing going, but a minority percentage of actual neo nazis are skinheads. Nazis are a stubborn and deranged bunch of people. I never was a nazi, I never really believed in that version of the ideology, but nazis are like if you took a marxist socialist, and then added private property rights, made them care about the environment, and then added a lot of ethnonationalism and racism. they are very angry people usually and have a very specific ideology and if you fall at all outside of their idelogy, they get mad at you. Most of them do not believe in the holocaust, or if they do they may or may not feel like jewish people were behind it to score reprations from germany, they usually are really into WW2 history and oddly enough do actually know some historical facts that are interesting, but always tend to have a misinterperted historical narrative. Not all of them I met were super angry, but they were usally creepier, they tended to be very quiet, or had obbsesive interests with things I would rather not talk about on this comment. I never had much respect for them because they were socialist, and I don't like socialism. When I stopped hating so much, I look back and realize more and more how fucked up some of the people I used to talk to were.
