Guy Torry spoke to VladTV about the friction behind the scenes of American History X after Edward Norton, an actor in the film, was allowed to edit the film, which caused tension with the director, Tony Kaye. Torry added that Kaye asked him to join him in his boycott of the film, which Torry said made him feel uncomfortable because he was just getting his start in Hollywood.
take it easy on the brothas aight , the brothas!
Love that part

👍
@bee boo Yep, pride comes before the fall.
Alotta skinheads in the comments!
J H their basements and the internet is the only place where they’re allowed to be vocal.
Guy was fantastic in this movie.
He was only on screen for maybe a little over five minutes, but he really sold it as the only guy on the planet who could turn Derek Vinyard around.
Guy absolutely killed it in this film. I remember seeing it for the first time and having one of those moments you never forget. This film seriously opened my eyes to treating everyone with love and respect regardless of who or where they came from. I was not the nicest person when I was younger and Guys role made me reevaluate my life's choices. Thank you for your work 🙏 mad love and respect to you. And thank you from the bottom of my heart.
So cool to hear this, keep moving forward!
American History X is a cult classic
It's an American classic!
I call it a cultural landmark, even though it's a movie, i hold it up as a piece of history.
One of my favourite films ever I would say
@@repooc84 American Psycho is also a Masterpiece.
@TAD tell me you’re gay without telling me you’re gay
This movie was so powerful, I remember leaving my theater with my sister in tears, it was about brotherhood and friendship and, Lamont saved him, I think most impactful movie I have seen
Unfortunately that's not how life actually is. Remember Hollywood movies are an intentional illusion.
"We were crying, we started huggin like 2 little bitches!....ahhhh! 😭😭😭
He practically relived the scene in real life, when he's talking to "Derek", until he made him laugh and became friends in prison.....something similar like that
Low box office BUT most people between 25 - 55 today most have owned the dvd at some point ...there's your money
Have it on bluray
I remember I stole it from JB-HIFI....in 2001 hahahaha
no comment still got mine
Thats the ticket
Miguel Deal just about to say that bro same
Guy Torry played in Life with Bernie Mac, Eddie Murphy, Martin Lawrence etc. Come on Vlad get into it
Facts i would love to hear him speak on that 🎥
That set must have been on fire
Papparazzi18 played in ??or the background
His name was radio I believe
He did on part 8
Norton was scary good in that film. I saw it with a then girlfriend while up in Chico, CA when she wanted to visit the college. Being an interracial couple, coming out of the theater that night we both felt this really weird vibe. It was probably unfounded but it was present nevertheless. I seem to recall I was the only black person in the theater. But the film was one the most intense I've ever seen. When I first saw Norton in "Primal Fear" I was blown away by his performance in X was next level. The anger and hatred seemed to just come out of the screen. Especially the scene with Elliot Gould.
.
The laundry folding scene when they were arguing about the Lakers and Celtics was hilarious. Derek was talking about James Worthy's head and Lamont was like "he had ladies". Derek comes back with something like "I can't even talk to you."
Cant lie I side eyed Ed after this. I only saw Primal Fear before so both movies he played a off the wall POS. 🤣🤣 He was playing them a little too good. Then Fight Club came out and he became one of my favorite actors cause he shows he takes the roles serious.
@@darrienscott7048 lmao cant really blame u for dat bro that mf played it a lil too good like u said.
Something not talked about enough with this film is its message of how racism can creep into a normal person. Yes, the criminals that killed his father were black, but they did not kill him because he was white. Yes, the father got passed up for his promotion to a black employee, but it had nothing to do with race.
He then passes down that casual racism down to his son, so that when he faces a real trauma - he then goes: oh okay, so everything my father said is true. And goes deep down the rabbit hole. I feel like there is a lot of people who are converted this way. And even those who don't become full-blown skinheads, I bet a lot of people hold racist views that once started out as casual.
This movie is important because it reminds us all to keep our biases/hate in check. To separate your feelings and to be logical.
Affirmative action has everything to do with race. How can you say that? It’s about preferring one group over another due to skin color. Not saying I agree with anything these racist people had to say in this movie, but to deny what affirmative action is, is to be dishonest.
I belive we seen it and understood the message without this lol
@@shytguy nailed it
Ur assuming alot lol 😂🤣🤣 😆 the movie never goes into those details ur just as wrong as the father assuming those guys got passed up for the black guys

Vlad coming through with some interesting interviews that are very informative lately man!!!
Yeah i feel hes getting over the trendy shit and hes respected enough to pull in the people he wants. Hes a fan of real nigga shit, like he empathises with the lack of clout and notoriety black entertainers get. All the haters can hate... But they seem to forget vlads a middle man for people who almost see blacks as human... Its not everyone but the curious can learn the she "we been knowing" haters cant see too far from their grasp...
My high school showed American History X every year to the juniors. It was mandatory that you saw the movie to graduate! Great Movie!
Wow. This is an incredible interview.
One of my favorite lines he said to Norton’s character: “You better watch your ass, because in the joint, YOU’RE the n!663r, not me!” 🤣🤣
JUST TAKE A EASY ON THE BROTHER ARLIGHT THE BROTHERS
Has anything you've done, made your life any better? Best part ever
Definitely one of my favorite films, he did an excellent job and his character was very well written.
When American history X came out when bootlegging was at it's heights!! I know because I bought it bootleg lol. Never heard of it but ppl kept telling me to buy it it's a good movie. If this movie comes out any other time it would of been a smash at the box office. Still a damn good movie!
My brother Guy T. Has a beautiful spirit.
He's a very humble guy
He really comes off as a genuinely decent man.
I started laughing when he said Ed Norton wanted to be in the editing room
This Guy is a really good actor. Hope too see him in more films. ✌️
I like the part when Edwards character called that racist bloke camron a "fucking chicken hawk" hahahaha had me laughing that's for sure smh great movie regardless very powerful message
Yeah this was a great movie it would definitely change a person's life
The Phil Jackson film bit is insane. Can’t believe he used that to motivate them.
I can’t believe more people aren’t commenting about this.
"Can I get a ring; where's my ring?" I bust out laughing at that!
Guy Torry speaks the truth..Love this dude man
Powerful stuff, man
It’s cringeworthy when Vlad has to look up something. 🤣
Yeah be more prepared!
Exactly...i hate it when V-lad does it...
And he lives for it
Adrian Flores We still watch though so we really like him but hate him at the same time lol.
r0mediddy Yeah, it's very irritating!
Just yes...
"We need our team to hate these boys"
Phil Jackson - "hold my beer"
He was amazing….his role changed the entire trajectory of Derek’s life.
Yep
He was on screen for maybe five-ten minutes, but his character was easily the most likeable, so much so that it was believable that he could be the one person to break through Derek's shell and turn him around for the better.
The prison segment of the movie was the best because of how much humanity Guy brought to the character of Lamont.
Phil Jackson is a shrewd operator using Adlemam and Jayson Williams like that lol
Life imitating art
"We started huggin like 2 lil bytches" lol
One of Chapelles funniest sketches ever! Especially when he divorces his own wife...hilarious!!
Just watched it again the other day. Classic.
Haven’t seen this movie yet. Is it worth it?
classic. you gotta be in a serious mood to watch it though. Guy and Ed Norton did a great job.
No.
Literally remember sitting in AMC in Burbank, CA. Incredibly powerful piece of art.
Damn good movie!!
Visceral depictions of each character and their motivations.
This brother is 50 but looking like 35 *HEALTH GOALS PEOPLE*
Let him take off the shades and cap, then we'll see how old he look
Your voice hasn't changed. 🙂
I first saw the movie when my dad was watching it, I was 10 years old, I’m 31 now, I caught the scene where Ed Nortons dad was in the kitchen table and says “ now my life depends on 2 coworkers that scored less on the test, they only got the job because they were black, not because they were the best for the job, does that make it fair? Yeah sure now there’s 2 blacks and 2 whites but my life is on the line with people that only got the job cause there black” I seen that scene ( which the dad of Ed was played by the same guy that played in “boy meets world”) and I was blown away, I have the dvd to this day, one of my favorites, and I’m Mexican
Great interview!!
To be honest the Kings should've won a ring in 2002 though they'll never be another good Kings team like the '01-'03 Sacramento Kings sqaud. Legendary team.
American History X was a favorite of mine the way Ed Norton played that role you’d think he was that way for real. At that time I didn’t know of him but I wanted to see everything he played after that the movie solidified him for me he’s great in my book.
Seems like a really humble grounded guy
Guy lots of bad people changed because of your brilliant performance in that movie, fantastic and beautiful
This guy very underrated actor
Omg this man. Loved that movie. Lol when they’re arguing about basketball
Great interview.
Easily one of my favorite films of all time. Hands down
He's talking about the Sacramento vs Lakers in 02 finals that the refs won for the Lakers
Fuck the Lakers
dope interview.
1998 shit, the year of DMX 🔥🔥🔥🔥
98-2003
I remember how intense this movie was when I watched it ..emotional whirlwind...I could barely watch it but couldn't turn it off !
I bet it was Rick Fox that came up to Guy Torry and told him about the film study lmaoo
Might have been Kobe
Lol exactly
“AHX” seems more relevant nowadays than it did when it first came out…
That was real sweet!
it might be successfull sports psychology but comparing your opponents to hitler and skinhead is moral defeat.
real skinheads are black and white, nazis are minorities
3:41 He's gotta be talking about Rick Fox...
Avery Brooks put the icing on the cake in that movie!!
Easily one of my favorite movies to date
This is awesome.

WOW! HOW DID I MISS THIS INTERVIEW?!!
Guy Torrey did a great acting job to they did great together

I think he forgot about the ref’s cheating in that Kings vs Lakers series.
When I was a kid I clicked on this movie thinking “American History X??? What’s this about?” …holy shit
Lol at that title alone !
that was awesome.
For the record, the original ending was going to be Ed Norton’s character presumably becoming a skinhead again after his brother was killed.
he aint a skinhead, he a nazi big difference
I don’t know how that movie only made 24 million. Everyone has seen it
did he get any awards for his role? he was incredible.
Wow. Phil Jackson with the psychological motivation 😂😂😂
More like psychological MANIPULATION. That was not okay.
Greatness!
One of the greatest films ever made.
Amazing
I am a former white nationalist. I used to be into the whole white power thing for a phase, never met up with fellow people or was a skinhead or anything, but I did own a swastika flag and had some pretty scary beliefs. I never was a neo nazi though, I just owned the flag because I believed in ethnonationalism, and wanted a white ethnostate. I went to a great organization called life after hate, and it helped me see the errors in my ways. I used to be a hip hop kid believe it or not, until I felt like the media and racial identitarians, and other races and religions where trying to wipe out my race. As silly as that sounds, I didn't arrive at that conclusion overnight. American history X in actuality has nothing to do with the modern white power movement or the movement back in the day, and the southern poverty law center doesn't tell the truth either. The best answer for all people is for all people to break free from racial identity politics, and reform what is left. You cannot fight hate with hate. Then all you did was make more hate. The issue isn't white Nationalism, black nationalism, Latin nationalism, the issue is racial identity politics, extremist ideologies, and the politics of racism. Racism does not and never has existed simply due to the color of ones skin. It exists because of various socioeconomic reasons and tribalism, and is the result of racial identity politics. The answer is to teach all angry people who don't like other races of all skin colours you can still be proud of your skin color and your heritage, and your history and all the great things it has done, without hating other races. The problems in society are created by people being human. Not other races. Blaming various societal ills on other races gets you absolutely nowhere in life.
Goods Forsale why are you here?
@@hiphopforlife7502 Like I said, I used to be a hip hop kid. So every now and then vlad tv pops up in my feed. I still like a hip hop, I don't listen to as much of it but I appreciate it as an art form if it is good.
In actuality Skinheads are not respected by a lot of other white nationalists, they are looked down on for their reckless behavior, a better movie that somewhat more accurately depicts the white power movement as a whole is a movie called betrayed, which is based on bob matthews, who was essentially an extremist who died in a shootout with federal agents. He is sadly looked up to by a lot of misguided youth who subscribe to ideologies like that. But he, as well as a lot of other people that are essentially influential people within that community don't shave their head and go around stomping on people. They usually hide out in the woods and dress up in paramilitary shit, or just regular plain country clothes, some people i saw that were big in that community wore thrift store suits or just suits. The whole white power skinhead thing is really an 80's, 90's, and early 2000s thing. It will never fully go away, because technically it has it's own music culture. There are whole companies set up to make money off of selling music that is essentially encouraging or promoting racism, and hate crimes. But very few people really adopt the skinhead look, because people will physically attack you for displaying stuff like that. there are certain groups that keep the skinhead thing going, but a minority percentage of actual neo nazis are skinheads. Nazis are a stubborn and deranged bunch of people. I never was a nazi, I never really believed in that version of the ideology, but nazis are like if you took a marxist socialist, and then added private property rights, made them care about the environment, and then added a lot of ethnonationalism and racism. they are very angry people usually and have a very specific ideology and if you fall at all outside of their idelogy, they get mad at you. Most of them do not believe in the holocaust, or if they do they may or may not feel like jewish people were behind it to score reprations from germany, they usually are really into WW2 history and oddly enough do actually know some historical facts that are interesting, but always tend to have a misinterperted historical narrative. Not all of them I met were super angry, but they were usally creepier, they tended to be very quiet, or had obbsesive interests with things I would rather not talk about on this comment. I never had much respect for them because they were socialist, and I don't like socialism. When I stopped hating so much, I look back and realize more and more how fucked up some of the people I used to talk to were.
I remember this dude on this 1 show always saying Revvy Rev.
Phil Jackson, is a mad scientist... but it clearly work though.
Damn Ed Norton was tryna do the whole movie by himself
