I would like to see a sort of 2 v 1 game, with two 1000 point armies and the singular player with 2500 point army, the 1000 pointers deploying either side of the singular player, with their objecting being to slay their leader whilst the lone player must move their leader from one end of the board to the other (or something like that)
my god those rolls just started bad and never stopped, situation definitely leaned heavily towards the wolves,-1 to hit when shooting and you basically had to move into his assaulty units. But more importantly, you missed the chance for an episode where Genestealer cults actually cult ambush a space wolves convoy
That Runepriest in particular. If he isn't a named character he should get one. Man survived explosions and overwhelming opposing numbers like the Terminator.
Nids, GSC, Ork's, and SW's are the most dangerous but balanced/beatable armies in WH40K 8th edition have. There's never a boring battle with this lot; moreover, in losing to them you don't feel cheated.
Scenarios like these are fun. I get why people like regular scenarios where there are two armies and they meet in the middle, but part of 40k's fun is the narratives that can be built from the game. Please do more of these!
That was so entertaining to watch. Great battle report. Nice terrain on the table, two well painted armies, great and bad dice roll, with back and forth the whole time. On top of all that it was a mission type that I never played, and both of you seemed to be having a blast, I chould not ask for more.
59:00 Rockgrinder had the buff from Primus! That'd be one extra hit. 1:09:00 Skyclaws could've piled in so that they'd attack the Iconward through the one in contact, if they wanted to. And you forgot the Icon's 6+ this time. :P 1:36:09 I think Razorback still saw a Neophyte that would be closer. Anticlimactic though. That sure went different for the Wolves' than that fight with Mechanicus. :)
Game was epic. Super fun to watch. Charlie seems to be the guy you would love to play with. Funny, great spirit and charisma. And Matt commanding Gene Stealers is always a treat. Great job guys.
@25:00 I'm not sure if you just mis-spoke or not, but it's important to note that TWC use "Wolf Claws" not "Frost Claws." (I know the names are so similar) Only the Wulfen use Frost Claws, everyone else in the SW army uses standard marine Lightning Claw(s) or the slightly better Wolf Claw(s).
@53:00 Missed attacks from Harald's wolf mount - probably would've killed the Sgt before taking a Wound later. @1:01:00 Also missed attacks from TWC mount.
Awesome report! Good to see you using those bonus familiar psyker powers this time ;)! The Acolytes can also make cult dagger attacks, even when they choose rending as their primary, or at least this is the broad consensus across multiple play groups/forums (otherwise acolytes would be disturbingly bad for their points).
miniwargaming I don't want to be one of those people that asks a question, and when it's answered by the channel, I try to start a conversation. So thank you👍
You've probably done something similar on the miniwargaming website for paying subscribers but as I am not one I don't really have any way of knowing. One of the things I really liked about the new edition is all the rules they provided for campaigns. I think it'd be cool if y'all did a side series of you all playing an interconnected campaign.
Doesn't the player rolling saves get to decide the order he rolls saves? Ex: a 6 to wound has X special ability and you get 2 reg wounds and a 3rd wound of 6. Doesn't the save rolling player decide which he rolls first? Instead of here where Matt said "I'm saving this 6 so you have to take it on a 4+ amour guy". Didn't know if it's a house rule type call where there's no real "right" way as long as players agree. Just wondering thank you!
Actually we are both wrong. In instances where you can get different results you should actually roll the attacks one at a time, so neither player gets to choose.
It does not. It says if a rule says you can reroll the "result" then you must reroll all the dice. The Command Reroll Strategem simply says "You may reroll any single dice" so you just reroll 1. The errata was aimed at rules that allow rerolled charges and such.
quick question: I'm starting my 40k army, Sunday i've played my first match with a friend! But we aren't sure about pistol rules, how does it work? can you just shoot them in the shooting fase? and can you still use them in close combat? And another question about close combat: If its my turn, after i melee them can the enemy unit attack in my turn aswel? Thanks in advance :)
clancy op het veld you can shoot pistols when within 1 inch and against ennemies who are within 1 inch of a friendly as long as it is the closest target. As for melee order. Each fight phase everyone fights: 1st: units that charged this phase. Then you alternate units starting with the player whose turn it is.
when you said: you can shoot pistols when within 1 inch and against enemies who are within 1 inch of a friendly as long as it is the closest target. Does that mean even when they are in close combat with another unit? so if 2 units are fighting in close combat , can you come up behind them with another unit, shoot pistols first and then charge in? because my pistols have 18" range, so i don't really understand the 1" thingy. Thanks for the response
You can shoot pistols in the sholting fase and they have the ability to be shot in melee and be shot against units in melee. But only against the closest unit and needs vision like normal. (The closest target is only needed when either shooter or target is in melee)
Actually we DO know that there should only be 1 Primus unless its been retconned by GW (because they are now worse than Star Wars with their cannon). That has been part of their lore since early Spacehulk days. There is also only 1 patriarch. Multiple magus(s), (magusii?) are ok as far as I recall.
fun batrep but I disagree w/ what matt says about the weapons team. weapons team doesn't say counts as 2 because it simply is 2 models. otherwise, description would say 7 neophytes, 1 leader and 1 weapons team.
Unfortunately that is not the case. It is one model with 2 wounds and 2 attacks. It's by base, not by model on the base. Even if 7th it was that way, although they did have the Bulky rule which made it take two slots in a transport.
I think it's just an omission on the part of GW. The data sheets for the chimera and taurox in the AM codex specifically say that a heavy weapons team takes up 2 spots. I don't see why it would be any different the cult chimera or goliath even though it isn't written. Too much cutting and pasting on their part and not enough proof reading.
1st mistake. In the lore there is no such thing as genestealer twins or triplets. The firstborn is always a genestealer. The 2nd, 3rd etc born are regular humans that are loyal to the cult. Matt should really pay attention to the fluff when playing narrative games.
Bout 42 mins in and other really shows how useless assaults are for damage. They are obviously really good for tying up units etc shooting is clearly king but could they not increase the ap of cc weapons or just give more attacks to try to balance it ????
This really depends on what is charging/being charged, certain units are nuts in close combat, but the only close combat units in this match are the wulfen and thunderwolves, if Matt had any purestrain genestealers you'd have seen a nasty counter-charge
That's a common misconception. The FAQ states that if you reroll a "result" you reroll both dice. The stratagem used specifically states to only reroll a single die.
Bet this was a super long game, maybe 2+ hours before editing. Wonder if there is such a thing as a world record for the biggest/longest 40K game in history?
Until Space Wolves get their codex.... they simply do not exist. Sure they have their special units still but no rules. Not a single one. Even the generic marines have special rules, giving them character. I'm a Space Wolves player and after playing a dozen games, they are sitting on the shelf till I get a codex.
I don't think army-wide rules are the sole thing that makes an army "special." I'm a SW player too and I'm having lots of fun just with the index. Almost all SW units are unique to SW: Grey Hunters, Blood/Sky/Swift Claws, Dreds have unique options, flyers are different (and awesome), Wulfen (nearly mandatory for the aura buffs), unique wargear. It's a lot of stuff. Even under previous editions when SW had Counter-Attack and (the almost never relevant) Acute Senses, it wasn't those rules that made SW feel unique. It always has been their unique units and army construction abilities.
That's interesting, as the Space Wolves definitely are very unvanilla, as you have Wulfen, Grey Hunters, Blood Claws, Thunderwolves, special fliers, and many other things that regular Space Marines don't have.
That dude is such a pleasure to watch, perfect gentleman, smiling the whole time, gracious in victory. Embodies the spirit of the game.
I agree!
I would like to see a sort of 2 v 1 game, with two 1000 point armies and the singular player with 2500 point army, the 1000 pointers deploying either side of the singular player, with their objecting being to slay their leader whilst the lone player must move their leader from one end of the board to the other (or something like that)

Always a joy to see Matt do his signature dance moves. :)
And now with the Mattron being formed.
Love the show this is what got me into warhammer
"My command points are keeping you alive."
Perhaps the best quote of the game-thank you.
Look me in the eyes when you kill me 😂
The Emperor truly blessed the armors of these wolves
That Runepriest in particular. If he isn't a named character he should get one. Man survived explosions and overwhelming opposing numbers like the Terminator.

Yes a beat Matt bat Rap, the first series I ever watched from these guys and I've been hooked ever since.
Scenarios like these are fun. I get why people like regular scenarios where there are two armies and they meet in the middle, but part of 40k's fun is the narratives that can be built from the game. Please do more of these!
Will do!
... when you realize Matt is struggling all game long with just half of enemy's army ...
This is just one of those games... I literally curled in to a ball of hurt watching Mat roll on his turns.
Its allways a pleasure to watch Matt
Matt, stop giving the loaded dice to the guests...
Why paint the ring on Harolds cloak the same color as the cloak?! @6:23 It's the little things *dies a little on the inside*
That was so entertaining to watch. Great battle report. Nice terrain on the table, two well painted armies, great and bad dice roll, with back and forth the whole time. On top of all that it was a mission type that I never played, and both of you seemed to be having a blast, I chould not ask for more.
Sometimes I forget how OP favor of the dice is. It's a zero point upgrade for your whole army, that gives them godly luck. I mean come on.
59:00 Rockgrinder had the buff from Primus! That'd be one extra hit.
1:09:00 Skyclaws could've piled in so that they'd attack the Iconward through the one in contact, if they wanted to. And you forgot the Icon's 6+ this time. :P

I love watching the Gene Stealers from Matt. They play unlike so many of the other factions
"It's WYSIWYG, but that's not actually a power sword." Uhuh...
Harald's axe, Glacius, has a special Mortal Wounds rule which was forgotten around 1:17.
Whoopsies. Not like he needed it... ;)
True, though might have killed that Rockgrinder a little faster! :D Great game though, keep up the good work!
I'm not sure if we used the rules for Wolf or Frost Claws for them, but you are absolutely right.
I haven't laughed that much at a battle report since.....maybe ever. Great work. (and hilarious dice rolls) Very entertaining...
Love seeing narrative games! Great report
@53:00 Missed attacks from Harald's wolf mount - probably would've killed the Sgt before taking a Wound later.
@1:01:00 Also missed attacks from TWC mount.
Yeah, we caught those later.
Good job guys. WE PLAY AND CALL IT WORK YEAH!
A leman russ against the space wolfs lol
Awesome report! Good to see you using those bonus familiar psyker powers this time ;)! The Acolytes can also make cult dagger attacks, even when they choose rending as their primary, or at least this is the broad consensus across multiple play groups/forums (otherwise acolytes would be disturbingly bad for their points).
GSC should be ambusing
Worth it just for Matt’s command point rerolls.
Please don't talk about those. I don't want to talk about those. GREAT! Now you made me talk about those.
Where is that ban user button...
You guys almost gave me a heart attack in those last 10 minutes hahaha
It doesn't relate to this game, but is Summoning free in narrative play?
Yes
miniwargaming I don't want to be one of those people that asks a question, and when it's answered by the channel, I try to start a conversation. So thank you👍
You're welcome!
Who invited quirk's dice to a beat Matt batrap?
I would love to see one Maelstrom and one eternal war mission done at the same time. I believe Steve did that once with a guest.
You forgot to get the wolf's attacks in, 53:13
so much patience against so many saves
Hey, I've had plenty of games where it went the opposite.
Although honestly I was dying on the inside... :(
It's been a while that I've heard Matts frustration kicking in
Those dice tested me almost as bad as my kids do...
Haha It's sad but true at the same time... I can relate with my brothers kids
Wulfen are Str 10 with Thunder Hammers at 1:17.
Okay I wanna see a capture the hill kinda game, where you race to get there first and fight to hold the point
They forgot the thuderwolfs crushing teeth and claws
Where did you get the terrain for the buildings?
So dose Herald have a stormsheld or not, The rules section on his data sheet says yes but the equipment area dose not say he has one
maybe a mission from the moon base battle box set
Incredible... who's dice are those? Matt just couldn't catch a break lol. Loved turn 5/6
You've probably done something similar on the miniwargaming website for paying subscribers but as I am not one I don't really have any way of knowing. Hey what happened to old world wars this week?
had read somewhere that steve was sick a few days so was unable to film
What was done to those d10s?
Hey the spacewolve player for got The thunderwolves have attacks to the have crushing teeth and claws( 3 attacks s 5 ap 1)
What was that Ork voice during the bombardment? :P
JaceTMS7 Obviously the gunner was a slave ork, why do you think it missed so much
Where do you get your terrain from?
What game mat is this? I really like it!
I also really like that building with the satellite dish thing on it as well
And also how hard is it to spring for a space wolf transfer sheet. Get some emblems on those models
Salamanderx99 X is that youre greatest issue...use youre imagination because beside that they are a Daisy too behold
They should do a counterstrike mission
Doesn't the player rolling saves get to decide the order he rolls saves? Ex: a 6 to wound has X special ability and you get 2 reg wounds and a 3rd wound of 6. Doesn't the save rolling player decide which he rolls first? Instead of here where Matt said "I'm saving this 6 so you have to take it on a 4+ amour guy". Graahhhhhh Goliath trucks have rugged construction!!! Ignore wounds on a 6!!!
GSC and Tyranids in 1 day.. the end has come
Maybe some more plasma against all these vehicles Charlie? Fun Bat rep though!
Or not
This is a Beat Matt Batrep, so why is Quirk playing with Matt's voice :P
A most amusing game. Keep up the great work MWG
Did Matt use Quirk's dice?
Where is Old World Wars this week :C
In the warp. Getting ready for this Saturday instead.
for the rock trucks all woudns u cna possible ignore on a roll of 6, ruggd constructs
Love to see some missions from the Battle Missions book.
How about some of the mission from the recent GW Fate of Konor campaign.
hey you forgot your rugged construction
Matt, the errata says you re-roll all the dice using CP re-roll, successes and failures
It does not.
It says if a rule says you can reroll the "result" then you must reroll all the dice. The Command Reroll Strategem simply says "You may reroll any single dice" so you just reroll 1.
The errata was aimed at rules that allow rerolled charges and such.
SkonkBot you are right, sir. Sorry. My mates have been lying to me, then
It's a common mistake to be honest. Seen a lot of people misunderstanding it down the local shop too.
BE THE BEST TA DA TA DA DA DA TARA DE DUM THE DUM TARA TE DUM DUM DUM!
Hello just a quick question. With the minus 1 to hit for the first 2 turns dude to night fighting does that negate the ability to over watch?
Ryan Lavoie awsome thankyou 😊
matt might be annoyed by the saves..... but they are space marines, 8th edition nerfing them aside, are still supposed to be tough to kill
How long does it take for y'all to film a battle report?
3-5 hours for the game, and then about an hour of editing.
quick question:
I'm starting my 40k army, Sunday i've played my first match with a friend!
But we aren't sure about pistol rules, how does it work? can you just shoot them in the shooting fase? and can you still use them in close combat?
And another question about close combat:
If its my turn, after i melee them can the enemy unit attack in my turn aswel?
Thanks in advance :)
clancy op het veld shoot the pistols in the shooting phase. After all the chargers attack you rotate attacks with your opponent.
oke thanks for the response!
clancy op het veld you can shoot pistols when within 1 inch and against ennemies who are within 1 inch of a friendly as long as it is the closest target. As for melee order. Why dont they do the attacks from the wolves for the TWC
'cause we dun forgot... :(
I smell tasty meat too, oh yeah breakfast is ready be right back
As a twin did he just call me a genetic mutant!? 🤣
I want to see the new 3+player free for all rules used. I've finally convinced my friends to play the game with me tomorrow should be good for
What have had happenend to a weekend's Old War Wars?o0
read somewhere that steve was sick so was unable to film
Mikey Egan thought thats the reason why Cullen and Luka are there ;(
Cullen went back to school and assuming luka was booked??
Best.... dance.... ever.
Thought perils was on a double 6 not a double 1? Also nice game.
It's both - fun wow! :)
miniwargaming lol that almost sounds like sarcasm XP I respect that. I actually knew not that it was both. Someday I'll bring my scars and play y'all!
both and on double ones and 6s the spell automatically fails gives players a chance to denie.
What is a wizy wig?
I have the Boba Fetch t-shirt too!
This is just 1:42:32 of watching Matt suffer
Wulfen are awesome !
Actually we DO know that there should only be 1 Primus unless its been retconned by GW (because they are now worse than Star Wars with their cannon). That has been part of their lore since early Spacehulk days. There is also only 1 patriarch. Multiple magus(s), (magusii?) are ok as far as I recall.
it's just a cheese excuse as per the usual
Unnamed Harlequin you believe correctly.
bkLEGION3000 more than likely it's been retconed
The Hive Mind sends its children where they need to be. This also includes pooping our more Primus.
it doesn't work exactly that way with the cult XD
fun batrep but I disagree w/ what matt says about the weapons team. weapons team doesn't say counts as 2 because it simply is 2 models. otherwise, description would say 7 neophytes, 1 leader and 1 weapons team.

Hi really enjoyed that.

Demolition charges
range 6
Assault d6
S 8
Ap -3
D d3
im right by buffalo grove crazy
I like this guy's jest
Did Matt actually lose a game ....
Shhh... no spoilers in the comments please. :P
lmao
miniwargaming he spoiled me :'(
Bout 42 mins in and other really shows how useless assaults are for damage. They are obviously really good for tying up units etc shooting is clearly king but could they not increase the ap of cc weapons or just give more attacks to try to balance it ????

PRIMUS AND THE METAMORPHS LIVE AT HAB BLOCK BETA GAMMA DELTA PRIMARUS ON TUSDAY
Wouldn't the CP re-roll when the Rune Priest periled, re-roll both dice, not just the one because of the FAQ?
That's a common misconception. The FAQ states that if you reroll a "result" you reroll both dice. The stratagem used specifically states to only reroll a single die.
Wulfen have the rules Possessed deserve. :(
Bet this was a super long game, maybe 2+ hours before editing.
Wonder if there is such a thing as a world record for the biggest/longest 40K game in history?
Planet strike
there is too much 'woohooing' in this video
so what's california rules, charlie?
i believe it's if you drop a model or it falls over, it's counted as a casualty..
It's been confirmed that the November codex will be Tyranids with the Eldar being a possible release as well.
The time has come.... execute order dust off miniatures xD
