I have so many memories tied to this movie. I remember getting kicked out of the theater trying to see it for free. Then going to see it with a group of friends and one of my male friends crying at the ending and saying : He went through all of that and didn't make it !?!?!
Nice! Not enough reactors react to this film! It's the cousin to Scarface lol same director, some of the same actors!
Scarface- Sosa
Carlito's Way- Saso
🙃
Even fewer react to the second one. I know Pacino isn't in it and all but I still really enjoyed it all the same.
Carlito didn't follow his own advice. He said to his dead cousin "you called them friends, there are no friends in this business." However, he trusted the very two men who betrayed him. At the same time he didn't trust the old club owner, who actually was looking out for him.
Viggo Mortensen was raised in Argentina as well as other places so he is multilingual.
I've seen this movie several times, but this is the 1st time I've seen that intro that sets up the end. Without it, the ending cuts like a knife
Def right about GTA Vice City ..also Scarface was a basis for it
Great reaction from you both to this modern classic! Also, that's a nice call on the GTA Vice City character that is absolutely based on Sean Penn's role in this film.
Love your reactions and how joy remembers everyone's names is amazing
Often overlooked underrated movie, glad you found it
Carlito's Way is sort of an unofficial sequel to Scarface since they are both gangster films directed by Brian DePalma and starring Al Pacino. You can definitely see DePalma's directorial style all over this movie with the all of the zooming out shots and long uncut tracking shots as well as the "ticking time bomb" scenes with a lot of tense buildup. Personally, I prefer Carlito's Way and consider it to be DePalma's best film and also a Top 5 Al Pacino performance. Sean Penn was exceptional as well.
While I much prefer Carlito's Way as a film over Scarface, he comparisons and contrasts between the two movies are interesting. In Scarface, Tony was homicidal and psychotic and had very few redeeming qualities, while Carlito actually had a lot of admirable traits and was trying to reform himself. Also, both movies had a tall blonde female love interest (Elvira in Scarface, Gail in Carlito's Way) except Tony and Elvira were a terrible couple while Carlito and Gail were actually in love. Tony was the paranoid drug addict while in this movie it was Carlito's lawyer Kleinfeld that was the out of control addict. Also, a lot of Carlito's interactions always seemed friendly and he had a close circle of people who actually liked and respected him, while Tony just kept pushing everyone away. I think Carlito's death hit much harder than Tony's since Carlito was a much more likable character and easy to root for.
1993 was a great year, but personally I think Carlito's Way deserved some Oscar nominations like Best Picture, Best Director for DePalma, Best Actor for Pacino, Best Supporting Actor for Penn, and Best Supporting Actress for Penelope Ann Miller. In my top 10 films of the 90s!
Just because the movies have similarities does not make this a sequel to Scarface - official or unofficial.
Hi MJoy4Fun I got here later than I planned . I really enjoyed both your reactions for Carlito's Way A lot! This movie gets me so stressed but I love this movie . I know the ending is not going to change but I keep hoping it will.... I am a sucker for a happy ending.
There is actually a comedy /drama with Al Pacino as a really good Dad with about 8 kids the name of the movie "Aurthur Authur "~1982 .
He is rarely in any comedies so that one stands out to me A lot .
