      I’ll second that! Would be great to tag along with that group and soak up their experience. They’ve done a lot of tumbling with those examples we saw. Just eyeballing it and feeling the weight of it they could tell if it would shine up or not.

      @@MichiganRocks It’s been so hot in the desert I haven’t been able to get out so I spent one of my weekends doing the same. I culled my rough down by about a third. Can’t believe some of the stuff I brought home. Cold water agates is a new term for me. I see a consistency in what they are picking up. What did they say they tumble out like?

    I do not have many friends but you sure do find them where ever you go. I am glad that you are able to travel and experience so many different locations and rocks. You do a great job filming and editing your vides; great quality. I also like that if you do not know what kind of rock you find that you admit it. Some of the for fun, made up names, are cool. The scientific names just do not stick in my head. I almost wish that you sold a sample pack of rocks but not all are beginners like I am. I never thought that rocks could be interesting. I am 63 and a bad back; started a little late.

      That's a shame that your back doesn't allow you to do this, because otherwise you're not too old at all. The demographics of my channel tell me that this is a hobby for old guys. There are some women and younger people too, but my viewers are about 2/3 men and the most common age is between 55 and 65.
      I have met quite a few really nice people through this channel. It has been fun meeting up with so many of them. I do still enjoy getting out on my own, but I did very little of that this summer.

    I was just there this past weekend! We found some amazing finds. We found some excellent lightning stones, one lightning stone that had a two inch ammonite fossilized in it, one very tiny pudding stone, and some antique blue and white China chunks. Found some beautiful petosky stones. There was one rock that I’ve never seen before. It is dark black and had nice chunks of a pale sulfur green-yellow. So strange! No clue what it is. Also…we learned a thing or two about appropriate foot ware. Ouch! We wore crocs thinking we could clean them out easily. Wished we had boots instead.

I Hit Pier Cove, Pilgrim Haven, Deer Lick Creek, Van Buren State Park, and the surrounding areas. Maybe we were at the same beaches! Anyway, I found a variety of amazing rocks and fossils! Another thing you can find on SW Michigan beaches is lake coal. Yes real coal. Since it is so light weight, it doesn't dwell in, at, or near the water. It is found away from the water floating on the sand. It stands out from wood charcoal, as it has a shiny luster, and is heavier. Anyway, glad you came to the area, and happy hunting

    When you polish stones on your sander machine, how long does it take? It seems like it takes you 30 seconds.

    • @MichiganRocks
      @MichiganRocks  4 місяці тому

      That varies a lot from rock to rock. Lightning stones and Petoskey stones are pretty quick, usually 15-20 minutes. I edit it way down because no one wants to watch 15 minutes polishing just one rock. My neighbor did a Lake Superior agate once that took him about five hours. Size, hardness, and the number of holes to be ground out are all factors.

    • @MichiganRocks
      @MichiganRocks  6 місяців тому +1

      HISEA gave me a pair of waders. I don't necessarily recommend them. I'm 6' 2" tall and the waders were too short for me, even with the shoulder straps extended all the way. They didn't leak and seemed decent otherwise, they're just too small for me.
      I have never found the perfect pair of water shoes, but the last few times out, including in this video, I wore these: www.amazon.com/YALOX-Sneakers-Comfortable-Trekking-Climbing/dp/B0CL8STR5B?pd_rd_w=x5Jyk&content-id=amzn1.sym.378a0f29-5acb-4c80-bc6e-087cd6806daf&pf_rd_p=378a0f29-5acb-4c80-bc6e-087cd6806daf&pf_rd_r=BFQT5FSH0K07EAQJBNP1&pd_rd_wg=iGjPs&pd_rd_r=63a93daa-a8bf-4cdf-94ed-8bd6685e995c&pd_rd_i=B0CL8STR5B&psc=1&ref_=pd_bap_d_grid_rp_0_1_ec_cp_ppx_yo_dt_b_search_bia_i
      Wow, long link! They're like really soft tennis shoes with decent soles. I have not yet gotten a pebble in them. They don't wear on the back of my feet like some shoes do. The only downside is that they fill up with sand if it's a sandy beach. They're still the best I've had though.
      I use Final Cut Pro to edit my videos.
