    The reason why the game FEELS smoother even when you have lower FPS is because the frametimes in CS2 are way more stable compared to CS:GO. @Yveldi Рік тому +64

      @@manuelgogeissl I think shooting through the smoke is more pronounced the farther away from the smoke you are from it or for the victims, likely to discourage people from spamming smokes as much.
      The HE is definitely a counter to smokes now. You shouldn't be expecting realism to CSGO, but it is realistic: The smoke is consistently replenished from the grenade until it runs out of fuel. So, when someone throws a grenade, it clears the air and that stays clear until the smoke grenade is able to replenish it. That is also the reason why smoke grenades work with a short delay after landing: They don't canonically spawn a puff of smoke, they release it from within themselves instead, and that takes some time.

    5:38 I know the crosshair following the recoil is icky to you and some others, but I think that's gonna be a very VERY good opportunity for newer players to get in, because one of the things that throws people off is the shooting. The crosshair following recoil makes that much more streamlined, as I find it falls in line with some of the more "standard" military styled shooters like Battlefield or COD, where you want to adjust your crosshair (red dot, acog) so you hit those shots.

    its nice to hear that player visibility improved. My first impressions from the comparison screenshots were that visibility in general decreased because of the lower contrast but it makes sense that this actually boosts player visibility, the thing we care about.

    • @TunaIRL
      @TunaIRL Рік тому

      Contrast can be a bit confusing as a term in a case like this. Since contrast is used as the amount of difference between 2 things, like a black cube in front of a white wall has a high contrast. The closer together that we move the colors the less contrast they will have. However, in a 3D world we have lighting to consider too. Instead of changing the colors of the cubes, we could change the lighting in the scene. If the lights are turned all the way down, the whole scene is black and there is again no contrast between the objects.
      With cs2, they lifted the shadows which brings out more of the actually contrasting colors. You could think of it more like a higher dynamic range. A picture with a low dynamic range can have very high contrast as in there will be very dark areas and very light areas but the detail will be lost. As opposed to a picture with high dynamic range which can capture more detail in those dark and light areas.

What I feel is annoying is the tracers added to the sniper rifles. That just feels wrong. Not sure if I like the card symbol in the bottom middle. It is kind of a cool idea but I think it can also be distracting. Oh, and I really liked the new end game screen. Highlighting the Steam avatars and stuff is really nice. Big improvement, also with the drops on the right side and no need to switch between stats and the rest anymore.

  • @TheTechDweller
    @TheTechDweller Рік тому +7

    Their explanation of "sub-tick updates" is basically what most big multiplayer games have. The server still runs on a set tick rate, you simply can't be processing inputs every .0001ms for every player and expect it to sync up. On top of that what I suspect they're doing is calculating the precise moment the player hit their input by including the processing/input delay with each packet sent to the server. The server then verifies the shot on the next tick, but rolls back the server based on the delay information that was included in the input, to more accurately calculate player positions/states at the exact point of the input.
    The game still runs on ticks, it's just that the server verification end of things is done more accurately, if the server is 64 tick, it will be better than CSGO, but it's still only performing those checks 64 times a second, which can result in sloppy/sluggish control on the player end of things. It's just speculation but I believe this is why the tests feel weird, they're likely testing on a lower tickrate to see the lowest they can go with their subtick system while still feeling smooth. Maybe an attempt to make running official servers cheaper?
    I think you can test the server delay by shooting near a smoke and seeing how long it takes for the lighting on the smoke to react to your shot. Since the smoke is server side, your client needs to get that information from the server and it's clearly delayed in some clips.
