    What if my photo does not have blue skies? The photo I'm editing, the sky is blown out so I want to replace it.

      Try some of the other colour channels particularly whichever is the colour of the sky. If it is mostly white then separate the image into 2 sections, one of which is roughly sectioning off the sky. Then instead of red try gray and mess with it till you get it right

    I am loving your tutorials, but I have one criticism. Although your explanations are great, you move EXTREMELY fast when clicking your options. I have to rewind several times sometimes just to see what/how you did something. I realize my two cents probably doesn't mean too much but I think if you slow down the clicking motion OR bring to the foreground the display window, your tutorials will be that much better. With that said, I am learning a lot. Thank you

      Then you would have to use other methods! There are tons of them. For example, if the sky touches the foreground with pure green colors, use that to make a clean selection.

    Once you get the layer with the Blend If and the Mask the way you like, Right Click and Select 'Convert to Smart Object' and your layer is a clean transparency. Or, you can add a blank layer above the Blend If layer, merge it down and have a clean transparent layer. By clean, I mean it will stay a transparent layer.

    Great tutorial! However, this doesn't seem to work that well when you have overcast grey skies and take a photo of an urban landscape, where a lot of the borders between sky and buildings gets confused since the grey tones in roofs and other metal pieces etc are very close to the sky grey. Could you perhaps give some hints on how to better separate sky from what you want to keep in grey conditions? This is, unfortunately, the most common sky condition here in NL :(

    Instead of using masks and paint to remove effected areas - why don't u, before "blend if" in blue channels, extract the areas that u dont want to be effected?
    For example, house, hills, bench, etc are extremelly easy to remove from the "blues selection".

    Many of the buildings I shoot here in Phoenix AZ are covered in glass windows that reflect the sky. Most often our skies are clear blue an devoid of clouds. I like replacing the boring cloudless skies with clouded skies. Please show me an easy way to show reflections in the glass of the clouds in the replacement sky.

    This is a powerful technique to address the problem of replacing a background when the foreground has a complex texture, such as tree limbs and leaves. As usual, you make the difficult easy. Thanks

  • @aurie3939
    @aurie3939 5 років тому

    What blend of is doing is hiding the blue pixels, the background isn’t fully erased, because you look at the layer thumbnail, the sky still shows up so how to fully remove the sky you convert the layer into a smart object

    Not easy as pie. I have tried over and over again to replicate your results. Does not work. So to those who are successful good for you. Blendif has never been a viable solution despite its proponents. There is one tiny switch that must enabled otherwise your flow does not work. It's called "knockout" If not enabled, then none of this works. There must be an easier and more elegant solution. It seems mask and refine is the alternative.
